A YTV news report about school dinners in about 1968-9. At the back, looking at the camera.

The last "film" I appeared in was a short we had to make on a school visit to an arts museum... man, it must be twenty years ago now*. We were put in threes, and had to come up with something within a half hour. Everyone else's was awkward chit-chat (this was a comp, not drama school) and kids pretending to be Curly Watts from Corrie. I decided to do ours on my own, as the other two lads I was grouped with were not interested. So I made a title card along the lines of "Good Times, Bad Drugs", and just went mental with zooms, blur, and close-ups of me talking to my shoe. It got a laugh, so I consider it a win.

*On edit: Realising I was a teenager twenty years ago has depressed the fuck out of me. Thanks, Stranger.

I've never been in a film, but I've been on local TV news a few times. Queuing for Tin Machine tickets at the Mayfair Ballroom in Newcastle-upon-Tyne in '91 and a couple of times in Newcastle NSW while out at public events, including a short interview on one occasion.

I had a couple of friends who were extras in the riot scene in the film My Beautiful Launderette and a mate of mine is an actor and appeared in The Bill twice. He's Indian, so once he was a shopkeeper and the other time he was a doctor. Obviously. That was in the 80s.

A woman I know was in the first episode of Vera and the 2012 film Frank (not the Sidebottom 2014 film). She has also appeared in several other movies and TV series.

A guy I used to attend junior theatre with in the early 70s is a jobbing actor still and I've seen him in several things (e.g. Hebburn, Casualty, Father Brown, Vera, Broadchurch, Inspector George Gently, Heartbeat, London's Burning, Spender and Hetty Wainthropp Investigates. So mainly detective shows.

It was an event. We got there at 6 am and already the queue was down the side of the building and round the back. It was so unusual that one of the local TV news crews showed up and happened to be recording their report just as I reached the front. Somewhere I have an old VHS tape of me waving excitedly.

I've never been in a film or on TV and I'm not (I'm fairly certain) even on Youtube anywhere. Even on old home videos of the kids I only make a handful of fleeting appearances as I'm generally the one doing the filming. This is probably just as well :)

Mrs Steve has been in a film though. She makes a couple of brief appearances in this, which was filmed in the village in which she grew up:

Heh heh! To be fair, he doesn't look very much like himself in that particular shot.

About ten years ago my wife and daughters featured in an ITN news item about healthy eating. The kids were filmed at the dinner table and my wife was interviewed in the kitchen.

The reporter did a piece to camera on the sofa in our lounge but had to do a second take after one of the cats jumped onto his lap during the first one.

Last week I recorded some fake commentary for an action film which is coming out next year but I have no idea how much, if any of it will make the cut.

Several years ago I appeared in a short film as a DJ at a party. I auditioned for a spoken part but they said they liked my 'look' and saw me as the DJ. It was shot by a student in his final year doing Film Studies. It was weird because the scenes I was in were acted in complete silence, with me pretending to play music and a room full of people dancing. The soundtrack was to be added on later. I have no idea what I 'played' on the decks that day.

I was thinking yesterday I don't think I'd ever been filmed, and that I was quite glad about it.

But then I remembered at work a couple of years back, a girl saying I played well at the pub the night before. Then I remembered, she wasn't there. . I told a girl I know about this who's been very supportive of my musical endeavours, and she'd said she'd seen me too, as they were swapping 'Vimeo' recordings between each other on their phones.

I felt like an old man / not keeping up....
