I have to wonder is this is really true. A number of people have asked on the festival's Facebook page but there's been no official reply. I even looked at the group's worthless official site, which I never do, and there's no listing for this event.

Proceed with caution, as they say. Remember that group of American rednecks who ripped the name off awhile back before our complaining made them back down?

Doesn't look like a redneck festival.

I contacted the DJ of a great local radio show here in Cincinnati. He has a special love for Louisville bands and concerts in Louisville in general. He confirms that it really is MES and crew, and he almost always knows what he's talking about, so that's good enough for me.

He did add one caveat: "at least if Mark E. Smith can get into the USA". But we could have guessed that...

One would think that if they are coming to Louisville, there would be other US dates. But then again, Mark E. Smith doesn't think like anyone else on the face of the earth so we'll have to wait and see.

i have heard from one of the other performers scheduled to play at the festival that it is apparently true. i'm in milwaukee, wisconsin, so a road trip is in the works. very excited. i saw them only once before, in san francisco, in the mid 2000s. it will be interesting to see if they add more US dates.

It is on my calendar too. Louisville is a GREAT city to visit too . . . Last time I was there I went and paid my respects at Muhammad Ali's gravesite. His museum there is excellent, and you foreign lot could go to the Louisville Slugger Museum and learn about proper baseball. Good food and bars and the countryside around it is lovely.
All we ever wanted was sanitary plumbing, straight roads, and a sense of belonging to a community of interest that could reasonably call itself civilized. (Charles Hayward)

You're right. 7 hrs instead of 23 for me. In (but would prefer a smallish tour of proper gigs)

looked into this - kind of makes sense

really like the organization's intention to focus on local and other artists who have been "cropped out" of the big picture, and they (Cropped Out Festival) have been at it for years

seems a bit too perfect - plus, Louisville is not the easiest place to get to unless you're in the midwest

and yeah, will MES and the band even get into the US?

Louisville is a two hour or less drive from Cincinnati so unless they book a club gig the same distance or less from Cincy, I'll be there. I have no use for the last three albums but live just might be a different story.

18 hour bus ride. If it's for real I'll rob a bank and go.

200 dollar ticket from Boston. Never been to Kentucky. Gonna have to do it. Visited England for the first time in 10 years and it overlapped with MES illnesses and cancelled dates, so missed a chance there. Fortunately, not my primary reason for going, but would have been a nice cherry on top.

Don't know about Louisville but I've been through Kentucky and the drive through the mountains is gorgeous. Keep in mind, Kentuckians talk funny down there. Don't snicker first time you hear one speak (like I almost did).
