I thought because of what it is I am hoping to do, this might be better posted here for advice.

For my website I would like to record a weekly music/comedy broadcast hopefully uploaded on Mixcloud and linked to the site.

I have Virtual DJ but where I'm sure I've used an external mic with it before, I now can't see any mic controls on it.

I ordered one of these...

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Condenser-Recor ... B00RFSVAO0

When this arrived it would not plug-in and work apparently it needs an external soundcard and so I ordered this gadget which is a 7.1 channel 3d virtual audio sound card microphone headset adapter, bought from Amazon at just £1.15 delivered.

So when this arrived I thought great, I'll hook it up and get going.

What's happened is there is no sound coming from the mic at all (have tried putting the jack in both green and yellow ports on the soundcard) and in Virtual DJ what happens is the sound cuts out, you get a message saying that the soundcard is not working properly. If you take the mic out then everything is normal so there is a conflict here.

I wondered if anyone would know what is going on and how to resolve this please?

Have you got anything else that produces sound that you could plug in to the soundcard thingy to test it with?

Er, not sure, thinking of Audacity? I don't have that but could get it easy enough, I think that would be software that would test that the mic is working.

It is recognised as unknown USB device on the computer so that's a start I guess.

There are things like this to test that your speakers are working...

I wondered if there was a similar thing online for microphones! ^_^

The mic clearly is not configured set up so went here...

So it's deemed to be working.

On the relevant pages (see screenshot) I should be able to highlight and set as default but it does not let me do this and so at the moment I am unable to set up this mic?

Yes the pc recognises it.

Also I learned I need to configure the mic in the software and used a video tutorial to do that.

However as I seem to have configured as per the instructions, the pc is telling me the mic is working properly, the internet is telling me the mic is working properly, I have yet to hear any sound coming from the mic (there is no on and off switch on it), strangely though the little USB soundcard the mic plugs into has volume control.

I registered with Virtual DJ community and making a request for advice now in their forums.

On the screenshot. Above the last one is wrong. It has highlighted the Playback devices (speakers) yet the Recording tab is highlighted at the top of the page? Odd

Usually when you get no sound it is because you don't have monitoring switched on somewhere. It is probably because you either have the wrong speakers highlighted in Playback or you don't have monitoring switched on in the recording programme itself. Or both

Test the mic in Recording. If it is registering there then it is the monitoring/Playback that needs to be changed. Make sure that you have the right speakers selected and that the bit rates and volume levels are right. If it isnt showing up in Recording then something isnt configured properly in the mic

BTW, you can adjust either the mic or the speaker levels by right clicking on Properties and then Advanced in the appropriate ikon.

I get trouble like this . I just Disable everything I don't want to interfere. You can re enable them by switching to Enable later

If you are doing speech, Simplest thing is just to use Audacity with iPod headphones and the laptops microphone. You can get good quality speech stuff doing that.

If you are doing it your way, the soundcard you have mightnt be great. I use one called Fast Track made by M AUdio. Cheap enough and good

Thanks marvell78. I will attend to all those things soon as I have more time. The soundcard was cheap enough, just over £1 delivered from Amazon.

I have to assume at the moment this is working, all the lights do and the pc recognises the mic plugged into it.
