evenin all , first time ever venturing into this part

of the forum .

My question is this , why are the new singles 33 rpm.

I one day hope to own a Wurlitzer and these 33 rpms obviously

would not play , I think .

Is this the future of singles or just a Fall thing ?

I asked a friend and he said something like , 33's have deeper

grooves giving a louder meatier sound.

Sorry mate but this answer just doesn't satisfy me .

Anyone else......get as technical as you like , but speak plain please .

Cheers .

^^^ I'm not a muso, but I think 33rpm means you can get more on a 7" like Monocard (7 minutes+) or two tracks on the b-side as with SWW. Deep wide grooves do give a better sound too.

Some wurlitzers can play both 33rpm and 45rpm. Trouble is the records that you want to play at 45 need to have the center holes cut out

When a record that has a small hole in the centre is selected then this pushes a switch down on the platter that selects 33rpm.
