This could be the instant response poll, and do another in a month or so?

Went with Second House Now - really good fun, and I think the lyrics'll stick with me.

Nine Out Of Ten is in my mind all the time, but I've no idea what to make of it still. Definitely got something about it that might make it my fave in the future.

On first listen, New Facts Emerge was the storming, surprising winner for me.

After one listen, through an iPhone speaker, with dodgy internet so it buffers and delays every thirty seconds (which, as a production technique, MES should investigate) my favourite track is the title track.

No idea if it's classic Fall or just metal riffs with some studio schnizz mixed in.

When my LP arrives from Germany :banghead: I'll let you know.

Couples vs Jobless Mid 30s

It's got everthing I could ever ask for from a Fall track. Late period masterpiece.

9/10

everybody who fucks around with a gtr produces this kind of music at some point. now it has been raised to the status of a song. validation at last for the bedroom, practice room, rehersal space hordes. a diy classic

too early. having a difficult time liking this release. i would vote Gibbus Gibson since the growling doesn't start until there are less than 20 seconds left. but it bores me.

I voted Groundsboy. it's the only one that has interesting music.

I'm getting awfully tired of variations of the same recycled riffs and the same battering drums, over and over.

Repetition has always been part of The Fall's charm. But not when it's the entire record minus a song or two.

I agree. I noticed that as I listened to the record I kept forgetting what song it was as the riff sounded so much like another on the LP or from a different one entirely. I wish the distorted guitar sound was different too or varied more.

Well two of the songs does have the exact same riff...

I wasn't sure but could only summon up minimum energy to find out. Which two?

Ah right well, they are virtually the same song anyway given that they are contiguous and without any pause.

Well of course they're virtually the same. Whether it's two songs using the same riff or if the former is a sort of preface to the latter is a matter of interpretation I suppose. To me, at least the first half of the album seems sort of monolithic, consciously repititive and with minimal variation, and this practice (making two songs using the same riff, then being overtly explicit with it by piecing them together so that at a casual listening to hardly even know when the other one begins) is very much congenial with this.
