Such a good song, it needs it's own thread.

It's one of those ones that sounds like its subject matter.
A group of Fall songs I like to call Fallonomatopoeia. B)
"We really made a groovy team but now alone I dream dream dream dream dream..."

It's a great track, one which would sound brilliant if brought back to a live set, I love the demonic pace of it and the twisted groaning guitars. Imagine Keiron and Dave banging the shit out of that and Pete going crackers with his tremelo bar, Mark faffing with the amps snarling the lyrics and Elena with a relentless electronic edge. I'd be ace.

Plus who or what is Hurricane Edward? Is it a reference to his middle name, was he's going through a personal whirlwind of darkness, did he just fuck off the Fall for a few weeks and become a farmer?

Answers on the back of a dominos pizza box please.

Last time we discussed this song, I learned that hurricanes did not only have female names.

Hurricane Edward: link

But I don't think he's referring to that, it's just interesting.

I haven't found any other Hurricane Edwards.

It's obviously about the storms of 1996, but do we think it's based on a real incident/characters, or largely fictionalised?

I always thought that the tracks with names (all are in CAPITALS) is symbolic of something...but don't know what.

It's symbolic of the songs being named after PEOPLE. :o
The Fall online = The Fall A-Z. Every century... past, present and future. No re-writing the past; no obliterating it.

Keeping the vocalist away from fiddling with our knobs since 1998! Hup!

This is a fantastic Fall moment. It is otherworldly and poetic with the weak voiced farm hand thinking about the hurricane.

What would be the meaning of "This cleanliness won't take your brass" - does brass mean money or does it mean a high military officer? Is there a real Hurricane named Edward? Google yield Hurricane Edouard in 1996

Some sort of twist on the phrase "where there's muck there's brass"?

I also love this track. :applaud:

It's "His cleanliness would take your breath"

Remember MES had next to no teeth when this album was recorded.

Indeed. I nearly suffered a panic attack yesterday when I saw a second thread had been started :o . Luckily Dannyno was straight on the case, and thanks to his swift action I've just had the best night's sleep in a very long time. Thank you Dannyno, thank you. :applaud:

I've tossed and turned all night thinking there were two Hurricane Edward threads. I feel much better now.

Thank you everyone, but I only did what any eagle-eyed officious nazi moderator would have done in the same circumstances.
