I just read in the papers our friends turned down an 8 1/2 year contract with a 25% raise.  3 or 4 years are already gone by now. I don't know much about how good or bad it might be as the devil is in the details.  It is written they want the cops to pay a larger percentage of the medical. They are going to give you $3,000 bonus for wearing a body cam. Unclear if it is for one year or each year.  BUT what you may not know is the PD in the next county has a PBA that might have some very big problems very soon.  If that happens many other PDs are going to be examined by the media.  How does NC compare to SC.  NYPD.  It is bound to happen if IT happens in Suffolk.  People are looking for a way to take a shot at you.  I believe this scandal , with arrests of high officials in the PBA will impact other PBA's

It's tough to negotiate a fair contract when they have your backs against the wall.  They did it in NYC when a contract was due and the people seemed to be behind you. The old-timers might remember what they did to the PBA lawyer named FRANK.  And they have done it in other contracts - create a scandal to shut them up.

If it happens you will see it.

Petefio don't know if this is related to your post but here it goes. A few years ago I ran into a retired NYPD cop who lives in Suffolk Co. He told me that there  had been  a sexual assault in his son's  high school. Apparently the perp was a male student who's parent was a SCPD cop, and the  SCDA's office at the behest of the SCPD PBA failed to prosecute the offending student. The victims parent's and some other concerned parents went to the feds to pursue charges and the federal district attorneys office began an investigation which snowballed into a big magila. It's my understanding that  a few members of this school board and an athletic director have been skimming money from the school's sport's budget. At least one of the school board members who is involved is a SCPD cop who maybe a SCPBA board member. The cop that told me this said that his son was a witness to the sexual assault and that he and his son were questioned by the FBI!

It's ALL related because it is typical of what they do.  more on this later with other examples.

I met this NYPD detective in  LI tire shop one day.  We chat.  He is a pretty big guy who can take care of himself.  His son is beaten and robbed of his sneakers and cell phone.  The kid goes to the hospital for one month.  For 2 months he is in a coma.  To that day he tells me the kid is still suffering from neurological damage. He goes to SCPD for help. They tell him this is only a petty larceny and simple assault. Tell him he is a detective and he should investigate it.  He goes to the area and dials his son's cell phone.  The phone is being held by one of the gangbangers hand. Reports back to the SCPD.  Another ho-hum.

A detective I worked with catches a guy throwing bricks onto the SS Parkway. Calls SCPD for assistance.  They don't show up for a long time. No arrest.

Don't forget SCPD Chief James Burke. While he was a cop he gets caught having sex in the back seat of his RMP with a heroine junkie ho and still keeps his job, and to top it off they make him the Chief Of Police! You've Got To Love The Good Ole Boys!

I don't think any good comes from bashing other jobs, particularly when so many of us live in their jurisdiction.  Maybe guys who have had issues should give them a talking to, or a delegate as need be.

I don't think anyone will ever figure out the attraction of this one.....

“I come in peace,” Mattis recalled telling them. “I didn’t bring artillery. But I’m pleading with you, with tears in my eyes: If you fuck with me, I’ll kill you all.”

It is not my intention to knock cops.   Very complicated.  All things considered my dealings with them have been excellent.

Self punishment.  At the time their love was blossoming she had 26 arrests on the books:  narcotics, larceny, assault, prostitution etc etc.  She seemed to not mind giving him Blumpkins
