Insurance companies have been doing this for years. Did you ever see those Progressive commercials where the give you the pitch “ only pay for insurance while you drive” ? People agree and sign the contract and feel really good about they saved 10 % on their premium and have no idea they signed over their “PRIVACY RIGHTS” to the insurance company. They know how, where, when, and with who you move around town in your wheels.
Your premiums are based on it and if there is ever any litigation you are involved in with the insurance company they will present the data to the judge like an airplanes “BLACKBOX” and correct like a previous poster wrote “cheating husband and wives watch out” . But hey you saved 10% on your bill.
Now think about this if the insurance can use this information against you in court what do you think the HEROES IN IAB have been doing ? They have already been using EZ PASS records to “F” us which time stamps every toll crossing and for those out there who don’t know it EZ PASS receivers and data collection scanning devices are peppered through out the DOT system. Just look at the signs on the Gowaus or the BQE and see those weird receivers aimed at the roadway on both sides of the highway.
These data collection devices are already installed in every Dept auto and all it takes is one IAB C**k Sucker to ring up another IAB C**k Sucker to Email the tracking movements of that particular dept auto for what ever period they were trying to “F” you for.
This technology was brought to this department not as a tool to aide law enforcement but to “F” LAW ENFORCEMENT by the none other than famous Ray Kelly. The only commissioner who taunted the fact to his cronies at the Harvard Club that he has caught more cops with a laptop than with 20 IAB RAT BASTARDS conducting their famous surveillance. All the while RAY RAY was eating and drinking their on the Foundations dime for years and when he got caught he brushed it aside made restitution and laughed it off, if that was us...SUSPENSION, MODIFIED GO 15 , TRIAL ROOM, TERMINATION, POSSIBLE CRIMINAL CHARGES, ETC.
As I has said numerous times in the past, find a non-enforcement detail, prepare for another career after retirement, enjoy life.
NOTHING MAKES THOSE MISERABLE BASTARDS IN HQ ANGRIER THAN YOU SENDING THEM A POST CARD EVERY YEAR SHOWING HOW YOU ENJOYING LIFE BEYOND THE JOB. IT LITERALLY DRIVES THEM NUTS.
FOR THE FIRST 5 YEARS SINCE I BEEN OUT I WOULD SEND A POST CARD TO THIS MF CS LIEUTENANT WHO WITHOUT THE JOB OR RANK IN HIS EXISTENCE WAS A NOBODY. THAT POSTCARD WAS THE GREATEST FU I COUD OF SENT BECAUSE IT REMINDED HIM WHAT A COWARD BULLY WITH RANK HE WAS. THEN WHAT HAPPENED...THE INEVITABLE HE STAYED TO MANDATORY RETIREMENT AND HAD A CAKE ON HIS LAST DAY.
WHAT DO YOU KNOW HE DIED 3 1/2 YEARS LATER ALONE IN A SHITTY APT IN THE BRONX.
LIVING WELL AND HAPPY AFTER THIS JOB IS THE BEST REVENGE THERE IS.

The only way to convince me this is good for ALL people is if the LE share this with someone is proven to be innocent. Don't count on it.

NCPD was using black box info back in the late 80's. There was a big crash in Island Park and then another on the North Shore.

Why do they call the flight data recorder in an aircraft a "black box", when they are all painted orange ? Things that make you go , hmmmmmm.
