I have an Associate of Science Degree , courtesy of the US Army. Only cost me around $200 bucks back in 1987-88. I never stepped foot in a college but I do have 138 college credits. A program called Soldiers Life Experience Program . Run by a Major LaBuda. When people ask me what college I went to, I tell them LaBuda "U". The actual diploma is from Washington University. Right now , I'm paying $80,000 for son to go to a 4 yr. college that I believe will end up being a waste of money and time. My Uncle was right. Get a civil service job. Pension and benefits. It has served me well for 28+ years.

Similar experience here. I had to leave High School (Evander Childs - Gun Hill Road ~ 1974) early and enlist in the Navy right ON my 17th birthday... upon the recommendation of some judge trying to keep me from the Spofford->Rikers->LifetimeLoser Program.
On my ship, while deployed, we were given the opportunity to attend some classes.. with the goal of receiving an actual High School diploma from a High School in Gilroy California. So, my dear friends, although I never once set foot in California, I graduated from Gilroy High. ::::: GO MUSTANGS !! :::::
The Navy was a great move for me... got me my HS diploma, paid for all my college under the G.I. Bill, and guaranteed my home mortgages under the V.A. ... and allowed me to earn more than enough to pay for and watch my three daughters' graduate college.
