NYPD cop opens fire on driver who hit officer during traffic stop

An NYPD officer opened fire on a driver who struck another cop with his car during a traffic stop in Brooklyn on Wednesday night, police said.
The driver of a black Acura MDX with New Jersey license plates reversed into one of the officers during the stop on Eastern Parkway and Saratoga Avenue in Brownsville at about 10:40 p.m., authorities said.
After the collision, the other officer fired one round at the driver who sped away and was still being sought as of early Thursday, according to police.
Nobody was struck by the gunfire, cops said.
The officer who was run into was taken to Kings County Hospital in stable condition, police said. The second officer was uninjured.

Without consulting the Oracles of the Patrol Guide, isn’t there an exemption carved out that states Officers shall not fire at a moving vehicle UNLESS said vehicle is actually being used as the “weapon”, (ie Truck Bomb, Intentionally used as weapon in Assault ) which has caused, about to cause SPF/Death ... yada yada?

I believe the Intent of PG order was to deter the mere stopping of vehicle by use firearms (like warning shots have been banned), or trying to obtain driver complaince, all to avoid the unintended consequences of a 4,000 lb vehicle to become an uncontrollable projectile causing more injuries or deaths

If that car was in the process of repeatedly running over a cop or civilian and while still actively engaged in the assault, then the use of firearms would be justified to prevent SPF/Death

3 years ago, the NYPD did revise its Patrol Guide to allow officers to specifically shoot at a moving vehicle if said vehicle was going to be used to cause a "mass casualty terrorist event".

So maybe this heroic cop believed the vehicle, trying to run over and kill his partner, was en route next to cause some sort of mass casualty terrorist event, so he followed the revised patrol guide and did what he had to do... just saying.
