can anyone let me know what was a average salary for top pay was in 2003 to 2008. I am trying to figure what a pension for guys who left at 20 holds up in 2020. I am aware of the massive difference between a 20 year vs a 25 year pension. Or if I bail out at 24 years because i can and don't want to stick around. The inflation calculator I used in an earlier post is scary.
i will take a look for my old contract payscale pdf - if i can find them i will post them

Thanks for posting that. It makes me think how many guys I remember leaving during the first three years after 911. Based on those charts alot of those guys left with 40 to 45 thousand dollar pensions. I plan on staying local since I like cold weather and love NY and Jersey. Yes I know but it is my family home.  I remember between 02 to 04 a bunch of guys left for the west  coast of Florida. I hope they are all doing great and live to be 100!

Regarding risks, cops can opt for higher risk funds because we have a secure pension as a backup.

A cop from another command stopped by our precinct. I remembered the face but didn't know his name. He said 24 years ago I insisted he join deferred com. Originally he was unsure but went along with me convincing him. He said he has 700k in it now and thanked me for pushing him into it.

I was driving the Transit Duty Inspector back in 1994.  Nobody really cared for the guy because he was a shaky boss.  Somehow, me being the new Midnite guy, I was tasked with being his driver.  I thought it was a great day for me to be in a car with A/C and getting an easy night.  We are driving around all night and he asked me about what deferred comp funds I was invested in.  I told him that I didn't even know what he was talking about.  He told me to stop the car and he looked at me as if I had just killed an infant.  Then he tells me , lets get something to eat and head over to his office at Transit HQ on Jay Street.  I spent the rest of the tour getting educated about deferred comp and what it offers.  I only remember that the inspector had a Jewish name and he knew what he was talking about.  When the merge occurred, he saw the writing on the wall and immediately retired.   Probably the best midnite tour I ever had.   26 years later..........THANK YOU Inspector for the valuable information.  Its finally paid off and then some !!
