It's tax time...do you know...

Do you realize that the illegal 1127 tax is paid by your spouse if you file a joint return? I am surprised at how many people I speak to don't realize
this. It is also attached to any other declared income you make outside of the job too. A few years ago a group of District Surgeons sued the City with
regards to paying 1127 on the money they make in their non City private practices and somehow they lost. The ruling was based on "conditions of employment
" when you take this job. Well I say this, IF I signed a document which says I agree to surrender my rights against taxation without representation, I did
it without attorney review, after the stroke of midnight when I was sworn in, and under duress. Also, my wife didn't agree to pay taxes to the City after
we moved out from Queens and Brooklyn to the burbs, she doesn't work for the City. I know they will never repeal a tax, but the City Council should at
least do the reasonable thing and limit it to monies earned as a City employee, not everything a family earns. This to me is maddening. How can they
publically deffend the notion that non residents and non employees of NYC still be taxed because they marry a City employee?? They go outside the City and
State to try to recruit cops, do they tell them about 1127? If it's a condition of employment, like age limits and education, it needs to be disclosed
before you get hired. This should be a major issue for all City employees in the coming election cycle. This is something that I can't believe is not
    screamed about regularly.
