Janet Mercereau looks eager to go before grand jury in the murder of husband Douglas. "I'll put on a happy
face," she said after posing for photographers outside Staten Island home.

Dressed to kill, a carefree Janet Mercereau flirted for the cameras
Tuesday outside her Staten Island home, oddly voguing as a grand jury was
meeting to consider murder charges against her.

"Do you guys want me to pose for you?" the slain fire marshal's wife asked playfully after uprighting some wind-blown garbage cans outside the
Oakwood home she once shared with hubby Douglas Mercereau.

"I feel like a model," a made-up Mercereau later gushed as she hopped in her soccer-mom minivan and drove away after flaunting her wedding ring in
    a pose.

Acknowledging her bizarre antics, a law enforcement source noted that investigators had been increasingly concerned with the murder suspect's
    behavior.

Meanwhile, cops and other law enforcement personnel testified Tuesday as prosecutors presented evidence to a grand jury in a building near Staten Island Supreme Court some 8 miles away, the
    sources said.

Jurors are weighing whether to charge the former Tottenville High School
teacher with pumping three bullets into the back of her husband's head on Dec. 2.

Janet Mercereau told cops she found her husband - a rising star in the FDNY - about 8:30a.m. in bed and under the covers with his department-issued handgun
    nearby.

She said she called cops right away. An autopsy put the death about 6 a.m.

Investigators believe she used the 2-1/2 hours to run the gun, which her husband had taught her to use, through the dishwasher and wash the clothes she was
    wearing.

The couple frequently fought about Janet Mercereau's weight gain - she weighed more than 200 pounds - since the couple's wedding some 10 years
    ago.

Mercereau's lawyer, Mario Gallucci, said his client was only
trying a new approach with the public yesterday.

"In the past, any pictures that have been taken of her, and she has been in a somber mood in public, there's been an outcry that she looks guilty.
Today, she said everyone's upset with me for looking somber, I'll put on a happy face. Now everyone's saying, 'How can she be so
    happy?'"

Gallucci has maintained his client's innocence, floating a theory that an intruder killed the arson investigator as his wife and two young daughters
slept in another room while wearing earplugs.

Mercereau is still considering whether to testify to the grand jury. "I did meet with her today to discuss it, and we will have a decision on whether
she's going to testify by Friday," Gallucci said.
