This should be a stem cell update but there's a little more on my plate right now that needs to be taken care of. About the stem cells, I have lost some ground but nothing major. My eyesight and some of the nerve sensitivity in my legs is where loss shows up. Strength wise, I'm good. Matter of fact, I was able to do one mostly unassisted sit up a couple days ago and that something I haven't been able to do for many years. I say mostly unassisted because Dayna held my hands so I can use my arms to pull to assist my core muscles in doing the actual sit-up. I'm not sure who was more shocked when I did it but I can tell you it was awesome!

Feeling something that incredible really makes me think. Is my loss the stem cells going bad or is it my stress level. No way to tell for sure right now but we do know the stress is bad. That's why I'm going to write this update the way I am. That, and I want you to have an idea what's going on if I disappear from the scene. I live alone. I have lived that way for a while now. That being said, I pretty much always have somebody at least as close as my cell phone can reach if I get in a bind. It's actually very rare that I’m more than shouting distance from my caregiver unless I'm on the way to church, in the woods, or Banach and I are taking a walk a couple miles from home. That safety net is looking very shaky right now. We've been struggling with staffing caregivers off and on for a while now but recently things seem to have lined up in a very bad way. I've had a couple girls move completely out of the area and when I work on hiring replacements, getting their paperwork okayed has gotten to be a real problem. It takes so long I lose the new workers before they can start.

Last night when I went to bed, next week was looking like I was going to have one full-time girl and two part-time people and that would be it for coverage. That's about about half of the hours I need somebody around… That means big trouble. I spent a very restless night worrying. By morning I had formulated a plan. Today has been a day that started out with circling the wagons preparing for a big fight. Thankfully, after an entire day with my cell phone glued to my ear except when interviewing, thankfully, things are not looking so bleak right now. I have paperwork turned in on five different people and I did some serious cage rattling to hopefully get that paperwork turned around quickly.

So, I would greatly appreciate it if you could remember me in your prayers in the upcoming days. Remember also the few helpers that are still here, as well as my new workers. Hopefully this all works out relatively painlessly. If not, you've got an idea what's going on. And for my dear friends working toward another round of stem cells, please be patient with me for a few weeks. I've got staffing, as well as a couple really big fires that I need to take care of. Then if the good Lord is willing, we can get back to putting together a heck of a benefit.

I can feel ya, Don. I haven't done a sit up in three years. My core muscles are like jello. I am supposed to start a non insurance related restorative program here on June 1st. So we will see who get to 1 sit up first. You or me.

Here in the nursing home I'm in, we are short on help. The wing that I am in has forty patients. We need 5 aides ( would be nice if we had 7 CENA approved aides) and 3 nurses. Hasn't happened in the 3 years 9 months that I have been here. When I was in the hospital 2 months ago, they were real short on help, also.

I will also pray that your nursing care staff get to full strength, too.

Thank you Chuck. It's hard to believe you have been there that long! Stay strong my friend and I will take you up on that Set-up competition.

My staffing situation has solidified a great deal with some wonderful new people. I'm cautiously very optimistic.

First of all, thanks Kenny. I seem to be caught in one of those bad spots where is one step forward and two steps back. Still holding on but it's a day-to-day thing. I actually had to go through my Sen. and Rep. as well as Wisconsin DHS and disabled rights, Wisconsin attorneys to get things rolling with paperwork for new staff. It's beyond ridiculous and unfair and while I never backed away from a good fight, this one is keeping me from absolutely everything in my life. I've gotten to the point where I'm no longer frustrated but I am very angry at the injustice of it all. I am strong and I'm going to continue to fight but your support and prayers are what really keeps me going. I will be back whenever I can. Stay strong to my brothers and sisters.

Don, Chuck, Phillip, and all of the rest of the fine folks here at the Back Forty are always in my prayers even when I am away. It seems that this summer has just not been a good time for a lot of reasons. Hopefully September will bring more time and better ones.
