What a way to christen the Livebearer forum, huh? :swim:

i was just moving my pregnant (VERY pregnant) Western Mosquitofish (Gambusia affinis) into quarentine and she felt SQUISHY? i know that their chest cavities expand from 20+ growing fry but all of her felt squishy...
this will be her 3rd litter of fry with me and ive never had this happen before?
whats going on? could it be lack of nutrition?

Does she have a Gravid Spot? Is she isolating herself from the others? IF so she is almost ready to give birth. If she is squishy then I would what I said in my earlier post, leave her alone and monitor her very well.

she is isolating, she doesnt have a gravid spot (well she has a little speck, but she always does) shes never grown a large spot before...it depends on the individual. its weird...i have 1 'Skeeter thats a virgin (no comment, its used in marine biology alot) and has a big pregnancy spot, and another one, chronically pregnant who never does

Depending on her color look at her anal fin and try to spot and eyes, this might sound creepy but if you look closely at any livebearer thats pregnant you can see specks of eyes inside her belly, this is an indication that she is fixing to let go her children!
