Shadows Over Hargendorf

Welcome to "Shadows Over Hargendorf".

This RPG will be set in Hargendorf, a small city located on the West coast of Nordland in the Oldworld (see map).
Hargendorf has suffered through a long hard winter, many of the townsfolk have perished from hunger and cold. Ships arrive to bring grain and other much needed essentials to ease the suffering. But little do the townsfolk know of the evil that is to come. The Skaven have come to Hargendorf, and they seek its downfall. But for now they wait, and plan, only moving at night, only striking targets of opportunity, slowly scratching away at the city’s foundations until everything is prepared, and then when the time is right the signal will be given to attack.

Your Role

You work for The Sneaky Gut-Stabbers, and your boss is Master Deathclaw. Deathclaw is a seasoned assassin and all round kill-sneak. He will give you missions and should you please him you will be rewarded with more missions. If you displease him then you might just find one of his poison blades sticking out of your guts.

Characters:

Your first task is to come up with a character.

For this RPG your character needs the following things:

1.A name, a physical description, some personality traits and a short background.
2.Two or three Eshin skills. You know the ones, like “pick pocketer” or “lock picker” or “wall climber”. Be as creative with these as you like – I’ll check them before we start.
3.Special equipment. You will have standard equipment provided, if you want special equipment then you need to choose 1 or 2 items. (No WLCs).

Do this and then post your character here.

I don’t mind if you recycle a character. But spend a little bit of time fitting them to this RPG.

All in all, you character profile doesn’t need to be very long-winded. Just try and cover the criteria and that should be enough.
As soon as characters are fleshed out and checked we will be on our way. :lol:

Shard was an unimposing shadow of a rat, he was middle aged as vermin kind goes and typically average in size and stature. His pelt was still glossy, with traces of grey starting to creep in and his eyes were unsettlingly mismatched, one green and one blue. He generally wore a navy cloak sewed of many different pieces. Shard was a social creature he reveled in the company of other vermin and Used his relationships to carry him place that his strength would not, his attitude and overtures endeared him to other rat kind as he was pretty average in a many of his skill. Although he was likeable and generally amicable, he was still a creature born of chaos, no matter how pleasant he appeared on the outside his bravado was self serving and narcissistic.

Due to his apparent good nature and his ability to work as part of a team, he was pushed out of mundane clan warfare and placed (with a number of others) into a life with a different master, instead of a serving a warlord he would be living by the cloak and dagger, which suited him perfectly.

In his life of shadows his preferred weapon was the net and dagger and the skills he possessed were the typical eshin kind - climbing, general agility and accuracy with the throwing star

Name: Yat-Sen

Background: Yat-Sen was the experiment of a possibly insane Asassin and a definately insane Moulder. He was designed to be the ultimate expression of their crafts, a skaven that didn't know fear, or pain, that could fight with anything against anyone and move like lightning. He failed. He was thrown out and left to wander the chaos wastes, eventually making his way to Under-Middenheim, where he was enslaved by Eshin... until he proved an amazing unarmed fighter. He was then accepted as a Night Runner, under Master Deathclaw...

Appearance: Yat-Sen still bears the marks of his creation, raised and furless spots of flesh where the needles went in, scars where flesh was taken apart and then put back together. Other than that, he is a fairly normal-looking brownfur, wearing a long and tattered cloak.

Personality: Yat-Sen seeks to prove himself worthy. For that, he believes that he must triumph with nothing but skill and wits: no aids. He is a loner, and dislikes the use of all aids (weapons, climbing equipment etc.) If he has to use aids (lockpicking, for instance (not that he can do it), he will use the simplest aids possible, to prove that he can do it without fancy aids. Also, somewhat rash.

Skills: Martial arts, wilderness survival (not an Eshin skill, but he survived for a year in the chaos wastes).

Special Equipment: None. Yat-Sen seeks to prove that material aids are not necessary for a good assassin.

Name: Shéyóu

Background: There are many paths in the noble art of murder. Some seek the direct method of blades and guns, others use naught but their empty paws, others manipulate their targets to destruction without even needing to raise a paw in anger. For Shéyóu it is the art of poison that holds sway upon his murderous mind. Since he was a newly inducted whelp, he had been fascinated by the myriad of poisons and toxins with which to slay the many enemies of Skavenkind (especially other Skaven.) Though still young, he has thrown himself into this study and all the distrust that comes from it.

Appearance: A scruffy black furred Skaven of under average height, Shéyóu’s fur is unkempt and sticks out in tufts. He carries around a satchel at all times containing a collection of poisons and implements for extracting poisons from any interesting flora and fauna he discovers (and a scruffy notebook for scribbling down any interesting finds.) He often wears a single multi-lens eye piece which he uses to study plant life and the effects of his poisons. Otherwise, he wears the standard Eshin robes and equipment.

Personality: Single-minded in his obsession, Shéyóu only sees his fellows as pawns or potential test subjects. Most other Skaven quite rightly treat him with great suspicion, and very few dare sup with him (fewer survive.)

Skills: Poison usage, Botany, Stealth

Special Equipment: Collection of varied poisons in vials, single multi-lens eye piece

Ok if I sign-up too Royos? :) Feels like ages since I’ve been in a proper play-by-post.

Is Tachi’s background as an Eshin rat from Skavenblight ok? I’ve left his relationship to Deathclaw deliberately vague. So it could be that Deathclaw is a member of this shadowy, Inquisition-allied triad of Assassins or it could be that Tachi has been sent to spy on Deathclaw? It can be left vague and unengaged with if you want – chances are Tachi doesn’t even know himself! – I just came up with the cool name and wanted a character to match! Also are incendiaries or explosives ok as Eshin equipment? I know it’s not normally their style.


Tachi Tatterclaw

Background
Born and raised in Skavenblight, Tachi has a more cosmopolitan and social personality than most Eshin rats – one needs it to survive in the crowded tunnels of the capital. Quickly proving himself competent as a Night Runner Tachi was given the dubious honour of working alongside the infamous Inquisirat strike-teams. Eshin rats placed in such a position rarely survive for long, used just as harshly by the Inquisition and their Assassin masters as expendable mercenaries and spies. Tachi however excelled in this chaotic world of espionage and counter-espionage, learning the fine arts of manipulation alongside the coarser talents of door-breaking and arson. Tachi lasted almost two years in this environment, even beginning to cultivate those most dangerous of skaven traits… independence… and command. Then it all came crashing down.

There was no warning. The fickleness of the Horned Rat’s Inquisition is legendary. Tachi was simply seized by the Inquisirats and thrown into a cell with a table. Everything that came after was a weirdly purifying haze of agony. His left arm in particular is a tapestry of scars – black fur alternating with burned, shiny flesh, bones snapped and surgically grafted with steel that still shows through the gaping holes in his skin. The experience undoubtedly left Tachi somewhat insane and when paranoid or nervous he can be seen compulsively tracing the weird symmetry of the scars while muttering prayers under his breath.

Tachi somehow emerged alive from the Inquisition stronghold – his faith apparently deemed adequate – and placed in the care of a shadowy triad of Assassins, their motivations and loyalties opaque.

Hi Sketch, Welcome aboard ;)
Tachi seems well suited and should make a good edition to The Sneaky Gut Stabbers.
The specialist skills are fine. But I'd like to keep the incendiaries to such things as: Flash bombs, smoke bombs, petrol bombs and devices of that nature. You're name has been added to the roster.

Wolfwerty: No problems with the character, good to go thanks. Yat-Sen's name has been etched onto the roster. Your hide belongs to Deathclaw now.

Tramp: No problems with your character either. Shard's name has been etched onto the roster. You report to Deathclaw now and no-one else.

RULES:

You are all seasoned in RPGs so I won't go into too much detail about the rules. Some tips:

Keep Deathclaw happy.
Try and include an action in each post.
Try to engage with the plot, try not to work against it, keep the mission objective in mind at all times.
Try to keep the group together and work as a team.
I'll be rolling dice for some decisions.
You'll have "HEALTH" and you can die.

So we've got a fairly normal Eshinite, with a few social skills (Shard), a poison-obsessed botanist (Sheyou), a rat who never uses tools (Yat-Sen) and a pyromaniac infiltrator (Tatterclaw). Right.
...
Has there ever been an RP on this forum with "normal" characters?
