Compare that to his rhetoric at the G7 summit towards the leaders of the G7 countries.

Well, Obama didn't do it. Of course, the Nobel winner's inability to even find a red line in geopolitics, let alone figure out when it was crossed, led to failures in Iran, North Korea, Syria, etc.

If numbnuts had bothered to watch Trump's interview on Hannity last night, he could have heard Trump talk about the bellicose statements made earlier in this diplomatic dance and why he was cancelling the military maneuvers. And it made sense to me. Of course, that probably is not what you are going to read in the New York Slimes or the Washington Compost, so some people will put more faith in those newspapers than what Trump actually said.

And cutting a deal justifies validating a totalitarian mass murder that way?

I'm ok with trying to cut a deal with the guy, because I'm a pragmatist. I'm even ok with ignoring the fact that this guy is scum and the human rights situation in NK while cutting a deal. But suggesting that you like the guy, that he loves his country and his people, and that you are going to be good buddies? That crosses a border, especially when it comes only days after Trump insulted most of his (former?) allies.

I love it. If things don't go as predicted in this statement, Ima be very interested in how the White House extricates itself.

Unless I'm as dumb as Trump thinks I am, and I'm missing some vital point.
Oopsie. I see what I did there. I somehow confused June 12 with June 18; hence my belief that the White House statement was issued six days before the event.

I'll go back to reading comic books now.

Right now, I think Trump would butter up Kim with whatever meaningless, soothing sounds he could, if he can denuclearize the Korean Peninsula. A lot of the dangling carrot involves bucket loads of money for the NORKs, in terms of economic development, if the NORKs can play nice.

I suspect the end game is to expose the NORKs to enough capitalism, that the regime will eventually crumple from within and morph into something else.

Trump made the statement last night, that North Korea sits between two of the most robust economies on the planet, with water on either side. Reading between the lines, I think he sees prosperity for the NKs in things such as cheap labor, trade corridor and tourism (believe it or not).

I know the world likes to think we had it so good and now Trump is just wrecking it all. Some think the US has been taken advantage of. That’s what is going on here.

A couple of comments on DPRK.

Not so surprise, but there are signs here in DPRK that China is not going so hard on enforcement of sanctions since the end of the recent summit. A friend of a friend has told me that China is not being very hard in inspecting trucks coming from China --> DPRK. Before, they were inspecting every one and making everything be opened. They would stop trucks that had goods that were not allowed. Now, not so much. In addition, there are some Chinese businesses that the factories on the border used DPRK labor which have restarted as it has been easier for the DPRK citizens to cross over to work.

I don't think that is any surprise to anyone. China has always been a major partner in this. I am not sure how much of the trade issue with the US is part of this or not. The Chinese may be using this as part of their overall strategy.

Also, no news in the DPRK press that Secretary Pence is here for visit. That is not a surprise either.

China will never allow the US to be the bringer of prosperity to DPRK, that is for sure.

I don’t recall conversations like this going on before:

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-nort ... SKBN1JX03B

I guess NK has to decide whether Trump will get impeached and/or China can block US from carrying out it’s either/or intent.

I think the honeymoon is over.

wrote:North Korea calls U.S. attitude toward talks ‘gangster-like’ and ‘cancerous,’ rejecting Pompeo’s assessment

TOKYO — In a sharp signal that denuclearization negotiations with North Korea will be drawn out and difficult, Pyongyang on Saturday lambasted the U.S. stance as regrettable, gangster-like and cancerous, directly contradicting Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s rosy assessment that his two days of talks had been “productive.”

A harsh statement from an unnamed spokesman for the Foreign Ministry was carried on the state-run Korea Central News Agency just hours after Pompeo left Pyongyang on Saturday and told reporters that significant progress had been made “in every element” of what he characterized as “good-faith negotiations.” Pyongyang crushed that appraisal, saying the United States had betrayed the spirit of the June 12 Singapore summit between President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

“The U.S. side came up only with its unilateral and gangster-like demand for denuclearization,” the statement said.

“The issues the U.S. side insisted on during the talks were the same cancerous ones that the past U.S. administrations had insisted on,” it added.

Though North Korea still has faith in Trump, the statement said, it warned that the U.S. approach had brought the two countries to a “dangerous” stage that could “rattle our willingness for denuclearization.”

It was unclear whether the North Korean statement represented potential doom for meaningful negotiations, as some analysts believed, or was just Pyongyang’s standard negotiating style, as others asserted. It exposed the fragility of discussions at the center of Trump’s foreign policy and raised questions about Pyongyang’s intentions.
