Sous vide boneless pork chops. Seasoned with salt, pepper, and Emeril's steak rub. Into the bag with fresh rosemary, shallots, butter, garlic. Cooked to 145 degrees for about 2 hours. Sides of "Crash Hot Potatoes," beets and rutabaga.

Chops were well done, but juicy as hell. Mrs. George ( who likes her steak as well-done as a hockey puck) approved.

Looks delicious!  Door Dash here - Sichuan Bistro's Hot Pepper Chicken (and I do mean hot - it's just chicken, fresh jalapenos and a little sauce with rice) for me, Casherw Chicken for MFR, Hot N Sour Soup and Crab Rangoons.

Sichuan Bistro is where all the Chinese go to eat.  Don't even try to get in on Sunday.  Fantastic.

We order in about 1-2 times a week. Door Dash has been erratic for us - orders not complete or accurate. Love the variety of places you can order from, much better than GrubHub or Delivery.com, but I prefer accurate.

Have you tried UberEats?

You sorry sucker.

You said the magic word. Beets. That's just re-poking the bear.  I am past steamed right now...Checked my beets this morning, as they've been coming up pretty good. I seem to have half the beets I had the day before. Barely out of the ground, just in the two leave stage. Except for all the little bare stems that have had the leaves eaten off.

I suspect flea beetles.

Aaargh!

Other than that, supper looks mighty good. Y'all are getting very good with the sous-vide stuff.

Our supper tonight is just red beans and rice with some sausage thrown in and some re-fried cornbread.

What I love about the sous vide is how stupid-easy it is. The only hard part is deciding what spices, herbs to put in with the meat.

I have (as I think I mentioned) a frozen turkey breast.

That's going to be my next sous-vide adventure.

Speaking of beets...

Mrs. George grew up in a suburb of Chicago noted for its Bohemian population (Cicero). Beets were something that she grew up with. About a year ago, she came home with some canned beets, saying that she loved them.

I was surprised, because when we were in Portland a few years ago, I had some borsht. She wanted no part of it. I told her that it was, basically, beet soup.

She's not very inquisitive or adventurous when it comes to food.

I had pizza at the Pleasant Cafe last night, a neighborhood place near my mother’s house. The last time I ate there was probably 40 years ago.

A couple months ago it was voted the best pizza in Boston. It’s not really the best pizza in Boston, but everyone from the neighborhood, including me, voted for them over and over. It’s nice to have a neighborhood place like that.
The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy
