It's always been interesting to me that women are said to have better hearing, have at least as great an interest in music - and yet...almost zero interest in the quality of sound coming from a stereo system. Most women I've encountered are more interested in the aesthetic of the stereo system than the sound quality -"too many wires" - or "too complicated to operate" or "don't want anything taking up a lot of space." I'm blessed with a spouse who has no qualms about Easter Island sized speakers in the living room.

Apparently it's the silicone on the base of the Sonos and HomePod speakers. Also, it seems that it's those wood finishes that are Danish Oil and other oil-stained woods.

I’m the one who sets up all the electronics and computers in the house. My better half is tech-challenged; I’m pretty sure he doesn’t know how to watch a video on Amazon Prime.

But he has many other redeeming qualities. :hearts:

I had to go to Amazon's Showroom Best Buy this morning to get my Sodastream recharged. While I was there, I found that they have the Apple HomePod on display.

Being curious, I tried it out.

The good news:

1) Despite the din of the store, Siri was able to hear me perfectly.
2) Sound quality is pretty good. I imagine a pair would fill a room very nicely, once they get that new-fangled "stereophonic sound" thing figured out.

The bad news:

1) Siri is really, really stupid. To wit: "Siri, play Beethoven's Seventh Symphony"

"I'm on it....(insert long pause)...I'm sorry, I'm not able to do that."

Let's try something different.

"Hey, Siri, play Beethoven Symphony Number 7."

"OK! Here is is - Allegretto'"

And the 2nd movement, the freaking second movement, starts playing.

"Hey, Siri, play the previous track."

2nd movement starts over.

"Hey Siri, turn up the volume."

"I'm sorry, I can't make this any louder."

FFS

"Hey, Siri, play the first movement of Beethoven Symphony Number 7."

"OK!"

And Siri starts playing Leonard Bernstein explaining the opening of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony.

I imagine it would be OK if I used it with airplay from my my Mac, iPhone or iPad. However, as a standalone, it's pretty stupid.

Good to know, George. (Also echoes my experience with Siri as well. Good for commands, bad for searching for something on the internets.)

The 2nd movement is the best part of that symphony. Isn't it great that Siri knows that?

If you ask Siri to play pop and rock music, may be Siri will do much better.
