Regreso del más allá
(translated: Back from Beyond)

Spain 1982

Director: Juan José Porto

Cast: Ana Obregón, Andrés Resino, Emilio Prieto, Jose Paredes, Elena Barona

At the beginning we see a couple having sex in a villa. Then sets a roaring Richard Wagner music (riders of the Valkyries). Shortly afterwards the couple is gorily pierced from a stranger with a spear (as in Bay of Blood and Fiday the 13th). Two more people come into the room. An elderly man who gets his throat cut and an older woman who is strangled. A cat is the only witness to the murder.
Later, Nora (Ana Obregon) and Javier (Andres Resino) rent this house. Javier is a writer and is writing a new book.
The first day sees Nora the gruesome murders and then has continuously visions and encounters with the ghosts of the murdered. Also constantly appeared the cat.
Only little by little the backgrounds of that fact to come to light.

Totally unknown little thriller from Spain, where you already relatively early guessed the final twist. It has everything to do with a long ago story. The four persons are involved in the death of a woman years ago and be however killed by her son.
He observed as a small boy how his mother is raped, and then these 4 people made an illegal abortion, which ends with the death of the woman.
Who this Son is, i will not tell now, although it should be pretty clear. Despite some nudity, some nasty and gory scenes, but overall happens to little(in my opinion) in this little thriller/ghosthouse movie.
Mysteriously the cat popping up from the beginning on to the end (she is even listed in the cast credits as the Cat "Wotan").
I have the spanish original VHS (from Vadi Mon Label) and i'm pretty sure, that there is no english release worldwide from this movie.

Maleficia

France 1998

Director: Antoine Pellissier

Cast: Guy Cicorelli, Nelly Astaud, Brigitte Garruige, Claude Gatumel, Marilyne Soto, Claude Auger

A coach with a large family is traveling in a forest. Suddenly, the driver stops and runs through the forest to a small chapel. But there keep satanic monks off a ritual in which several girls are sacrificed on pretty bloody ways. The dead will be raised over a wide area and come out of their graves. Soon the travelers to leave their coach and run for their lives, pursued by crowds of undead. After the first family members are killed already in the forest, the last survivors reach a remote and seemingly deserted castle. They flee inside, but in the catacombs of the castle until they are attacked by vampires, and then comes also the satanic monks again.

Oh la la. French hardgore galore from the most extreme kind. From the beginning on butchered and slaughtered what the (Zero-)budget will bear. Because we are dealing with an amateur home video, as they were it shot en masse in the 90s. There is actually no plot, from acting we also don't want to talk, but what can convince are the gore effects. Which are for the zero budget good to very good and extremely gory anyway. Eye goughing, hearts tears out, limbs are separated, guts munching, bodys drilled, heads are sawed and many more. Which is also good, are the locations and settings of the castle with its aisles, catacombs and crypts. Not quite so i really liked the end with the double twist, but this is a matter of opinion. Recommended in any case for all the gorehounds.

Bewitched Area of Thousand Years

Taiwan 1991

Director: Lai wan

Cast: Ku Feng, Lung Tien-Hsiang, Chui Ging-Sin, Chung Jan-Wang, Che Man-Yik

The evil snake devil is banned and trapped already 1000 years in a cave. But the young Chou Long, obsessed that can be found treasures in the cave he thought enters the cursed place, despite the warnings of the priest Wu Saka.
It comes, as it must. Chou Long is possessed by the Snake Devil and transforms at night into a serpent monster and from now on biting and disembowelling people. One day, the young Shu Mei is attacked and bitten by Chou Long in his shape of a snake. She slowly transforms itself into a snake demon and drops on people. Her friend and her family can ot agree her behavior and try it with a doctor's help. When this nothing brings, the priest Wu Saka is asked to help.
Because just learns Shu Mai that Chou Long is her real father and disappeared 20 years ago in the cave of snake Devil. Wu Saka takes up the fight against the Snake Devil.

A really unknown horror movie from Taiwan(no imdb entry), despite magical duels, a little Blood and Gore and some obscure transformation scenes (the snake demon has snakes as arms, which looks quite bizarre), he can not compete with the better known, "Black Magic" movies, as for example Bewitched(1981), Brutal Sorcery (1986), Rape After (1986),
Black Magic 2 (1979), Devil Fetus (1983). This is also due the makeup looks pretty lousy and cheap and the movie also has to contend with a few lengths. Then also lack some spectacular scenes.
There are still some nice action scenes, counted as a full squad of heavily armed police in the jungle is assassinated by the snake demon. It's also nice duel at the end, as Wu Saka with his magic (including flying skulls) fights against the Snake Devil. And as so often in the Hong Kong / Taiwan movies this time there is no happy ending.
Because when trying exorcise the Snake Devil, Chou Long and Shu Mai both die.

Oh yes, and despite the shabby make-up looks the snake demon with his snake arms very cool.

From now on Mi-Ryeng has visions and hallucinations of grotesque faces and the ghostly shape of Ji-Kwang appears everywhere. After days of horror Mi-Ryeong dies one night in such shock. But now it turns out that this is not at all a ghost. Instead Yeo-Ok and Ji-Kwang have a relationship with each other and do the poor Mi-Ryeong killed by a bad game. But as Yeo-Ok and Ji-Kwang married, is the happiness short lived, because soon accumulate the signs, that Mi-Ryeong has returned as a vengeful spirit.

Well,i have a lot of south korean movies, but most are relatively new movies like TELL ME SOMETHING (1999), BLOODY REUNION (2006),BLOODY BEACH (2000), THE DOLL MASTER (2004), I SAW THE DEVIL (2010) and many others. Most very good stuff.
Which older movies are such a thing. Since i only have Strange Dead Bodies (1981) and Vengeful Vampire Girl (1981) except that movie. Now you can call this movie might not necessarily as a horror movie, more of a thriller. For example, in the tradition of movies like GASLIGHT (1944) or the british A TASTE OF FEAR (1960). Movies in which women are from their men to be driven to madness or death. But while in these films after the exposing the perpetrator of the crime and the Enlightenment is the end, this Korean film begins here first. Here is to the end again a few surprises and twists that were not anticipated. Made it very exciting, with a few minor shocks. Then there's a twist and the ending is pretty wicked.

BDC is on the right trail about this one looking like classic Shaw Bros horror. It's a nearly scene for scene remake of HEX (1980).

Samson dan Delilah 1987, Indonesia. South Korean tape with English dub.
So far the only one I've heard about.

Wow. That expression pretty much sums it up. I'll just list things that comes to my mind:
First of all, a big chunk of the soundtrack is taken from "Conan the Barbarian". The movie features a bodybuilder (Paul Hay) with lots of mascara. Naturally he's very strong, he breaks the neck of an ox. Indonesian actress icon Suzzanna stars as the main female actress.
We get a cyclope baddie and a flying guru baddie. The cyclope baddie has a henchman with an axe made completely out of plastic or wood or cardboard, obviously fake props. The guru baddie gets cut in half but his lower body keeps on walking and goes on kicking Samson's ass. The other jumps onto a cliff and laughs.
The evil Dutch officer's makeup has to be seen to be believed. The screen capture doesn't do the guy justice.
We also get food porn. Breasts with eyes that cures a blind guy while disco lights flash.
This is like some psycho kid on drugs made a movie.

The food porn is cut from the Malay vcd.

Your average Dutch guy...
