Hey guys, I had nothing to do (!) so I thought to start a new topic about rare DVD sleeves from releases worldwide. You can post your covers too, comments for the covers and even for the releases. The most rare the better, even if the releases are actually bad. This is mainly a sleeve thread!

I start with the Greek DVD of MALOBRA - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0128324/

Is there already such a thing as a rare DVD? most of the copies produced must still survive today somewhere I guess. Maybe those X-rated limited 66 releases are the rarest around, I don't know. Ofcourse each country has some DVD's that are hard to get outside of that country when there is no online seller that would export them.

I have these discs I had to import through a guy in Japan who ordered them for me, maybe the most obscure in my collection.

the link from the store who sells (and I think also makes) these DVD's
http://www.fujikikaku.info/dvd/mdc/ah/ah01/ah01.html
the other stuff they sell is very extreme and sick porn, not safe for browsing at work! ...or at home, it's really sick... I first knew about these movies from Ian Kerkhofs documentary on Merzbow and then the Creation book "Eros in Hell". When I found out they had a DVD release I just had to get them. After I copied them for a trade they imediately became well known bootlegs and now Unearthed is also going to release them on DVD!!
Check out Mishima's "Patriotism" to find a possible inspiration for these babies. Soon out from the Criterion collection, I have the Japanese release (wich include the English and French language versions). the highlights are also to be found on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0wSZPCkpUk

a few of the first cult titles that I bought when I started to get a serious DVD collection

and this one might also be hard to get by now
edit: visited the alpha blue website to check up on this, but none of their releases seem out of print, so not hard to get at all I supose

There was a limited (1000 pieces) german DVD release of Blood and Black Lace a few years back, extremely beutifull cover and the best print of the film available so far.
A very recommended release of one of the best giallo classics out there.
The last time I saw it on german eBay it sold for over $120..
Luckily, I secured a copy of it before it got OOP.

Oh, and the Criterion OOP release of Saló should definetly fit in this thread, I believe it has sold for some seriuosly absurd amounts.

And isn't there a very rare DVD release of Liquid Sky somewhere out there?

That's all I can think of for now.. :ph43r:

I have that Liquid Sky DVD and it was very rare (going for absurd prices anyway) for a while, but I have seen it on Amazon lately (at least for a year now) going for normal and even cheap prices. Perhaps there has been a re-release? it looks like the exact same disc as those first released (and quickly gone). One of my favs for sure!

edit. looked it up. there was a re-release in 2005. the release of my dvd is 2000, so I guess this one is indeed rare
