I'm glad to see the option for a welcome email for new members -- BUT, 140 characters isn't enough! Can you please expand this? On FreeForums, we were able to provide more information about the board and how to get started in our automated email welcome, and we'd like to be able to do something similar here. Even doubling the characters would be a good start.

I quite agree - 140 characters is nowhere near enough.

Also, when is this e-mail sent? It says in the console that it is sent when a member joins, but if the account needs to be activated by the administrator, is it sent before or after activation has happened?

It works the same as it worked before. If you have 'by admin' enabled, the welcome message will be sent before approval, but the email contains the following information:

Your account is currently inactive and will need to be approved by an administrator before you can log in. We'll notify you again when your account is approved.

Chris, what about the welcome email in the console -- any chance of expanding that to more than 140 characters? We'd really like to be able to customize (as we were able to in FreeForums) and provide a bit more information.

So now I am confused again...(it doesn't take much 🤓).

Our board is set to "admin enabled" so
a) do they get the message you described above when they register, OR the message that we can customise?
or
b) do they get the message you described above when they register PLUS our customised message when the account is approved?
