No ACP setting to hide memberlist and users' profiles from guests

Hi, TT Staff

Via another discussion it came to my attention that our memberlist and users' profiles are also visible and accessible to guests, and I sincerely doubt if that is desirable. So, I searched through the ACP settings in order to disable this (in vain) and then made a google query 'phpbb hide member list and profiles from guests', resulting in this info:
ACP > permissions tab > Groups' permissions > the group > Advance permissions > Profile tab > Can view profiles, memberlist and online list - set it to No.
Then, once again checking our ACP, I discovered that there's NO such option.
I wonder, is this also something that TT has restricted to us Site Admins or is the above information outdated and has it just been removed in a more recent phpBB release?

Your comment would be appreciated.

As I remember that option existed here after migration and unregistered users cannot see user profiles by default.. And as I see, there is no such option anymore..but the option "Can search board" still exist..

Well, if TT indeed removed this option from our ACP, then it would at least be recommendable that the default settings for all boards are being changed to the effect that unregistered users (guests) can NOT see online users on the index page, NOR the member list NOR their profiles.

But I would very much prefer this option to be reinstated in our ACP and I really do not understand why our ACP options keep getting more and more limited.

I am seeing this:

ACP > permissions tab > Global Permissions > Group permissions > the usergroup (from a dropdown list) > Advance permissions > Profile tab > Can view profiles, memberlist and online list - set it to No.

However, "Guests" is not one of the choices of usergroups I can limit.  So ironically, I can prevent my groups of my own members from seeing the memberlist - but I can't prevent a non-registered guest from seeing it!

Under:

ACP > Users and Groups > Manage Groups > I can see Guests there.  Clicking on Settings gives no real power to limit guests.

I checked this again just now and it appears that in the meantime TT must have made an alteration, because the missing option is now present again and -at least for our board- has been set to NO for the GUEST group.
So I logged out and viewed our board as a guest and I can confirm that the memberlist (and thus the members' profiles) are no longer accessible/visible. But viewing as a guest I could still see the names of the members 'online' on the index page....
It's a pity that TT did not take the trouble to inform us that this problem was supposed to have been taken care of.

Glad yours is working.  Mine still isn't.  I don't have the choice of choosing Guests - only the groups I've set up myself are on the drop down.

However, when I tired again on Google and Bing to find that member list, I can't.  Nothing comes up this morning.

To prevent my members from showing up at the bottom of the index page, I suggested they make themselves hidden.  Then only the admin or mods can see their names.

Well, the main part is, but it's still possible for guests to see the 'Who's on-line' on the index page...

That's strange @disneywdw . You should also be able to manage group permissions for the so-called pre-defined groups, not only your custom-made groups.
You might want to ask TT to take a look at your ACP settings. Presumably something is missing there.
It would be helpful to TT Staff to provide a link to your board.

FWIW, that option is now present on my board as well and it is definately a new change as if I log out and click on a members name I get prompted to login whereas previously I could view their profile.

Being able to VIEW the list of people who are logged on whilst not logged on yourself is pretty standard though - I can do that on all the forums I use, so I think is default behaviour. Accessing the profiles however seems to be down to how the forum is setup though (got one vBulletin board where you can and one where you cannot)

@RAV4Club Well, I don't have a major problem with guests being able to view who's on-line, but this ACP setting clearly combines the 3 functions: 'Can view profiles, memberlist and who's on line' so one would expect if this option is set to NO that the Who's on-line info was also not viewable...
