My mother was raised in Post, Texas.
(Ask anyone there about the statue of CW. Post in the middle of town...Especially when there is garbage placed on his lap ).

She says "What" and "doing" just like Renee.

I know philli's have strong accents. Like Sylvester Stallone in Rocky. I think the singer pink (alicia moore) is from Philli but she doesn't really have a strong accent.

I was aware Americans sound different. I'm just saying USUALLY with American actors (and English) they all have the same way of speaking. There isn't much variety in their accents anymore as to please everyone i guess.

Did you know in England they never EVER used to hire anyone in the media (radio,TV) unless they were well spoken (in other words very posh!)?

Now that is lame.

Accents are what makes individuality.

My heart is hurting...

Yep, that's pretty much the same here, which is why people like Couric, Brinkley etc. sort of suppress their natural accents.

Somehow I'm reminded of the bit in the first season of the new Dr. Who where Rose's mother is questioning that the Doctor is actually an alien from another planet. "But he's got a Northern accent!" she protests. Rose replies that other planets have a north too.

I live on the border of Wisconsin and Illinois.

You have 2 different accents:

1.)The standard "Shickaahgo" accent
2.)That "Yah hey dare, eh. Ho dem dare walleye bitin'? Yah seen my ice auger, eh?" northern accent.

Hi Y'all...

I was born and raised in Texas...about 300 miles from where Renee grew up. Not all Texans pick up a Texas accent. I don't sound "Texan" when I talk. I do use Texas terms like Y'all, folks, fixen...things like that and I will have a tendency to sound more Texan if I'm around lots of people with a strong accent. But lots of Texans don't actually have what could be called an accent. Espacially if you grow up in cities like Houston, Dallas, San Antonio or Austin...those are large cities with lots of Northern and Eastern transplants. In more rual areas the accent becomes more prevliant.

Welcome to TX and ROC Chat, KFWarrior!

I hope you enjoy your time here.

Thanks for your insight into Rene's accent. I think you are right and what you said applies to Rene. She doesn't really have an accent but she uses some Texan expressions and probably has more of an accent when around other heavily accented Texans.

Hi! This is my first time to the ROC Chat. I'm also from Texas and accents are all over the place here. It's mostly in east Texas where people have a "Texan" accent. *sigh* Trust me. Yikes. Sometimes I can't even understand what they're saying.

I think the "Texan accent" we all know about only really applies to rural areas. Anyone who grew up in a big city like ROC did is probably not going to have the typical Texan accent. I don't think she tried to lose it, its just that people in those areas don't have it at all.

I think I have probably confused the whole Texan accent thing, between ROC the person who I have close to never heard speak at all, maybe once for 5 secs on an ET ep, and ROC doing Gabrielle in XWP

nettie, except for when she is disguised as a character like Belle in Many Happy Returns, Rene the person sounds pretty much like ROC playing Gabrielle. Unlike Lucy, ROC doesn't change her accent when in character.

Lucy's normal speaking voice has a definite NZ accent. However, as Xena, she adopted an American accent, hiding her NZ accent as much as possible.

Okay, thought you might of meant in her different roles since XWP, that have mostly been with a US accent, that she made of given a slightly different take on the accent in the different roles.

Understand your meaning now re LL and XWP and accents.
