Story by Peanit

Lady Cornith smiles as she stretches and turns her face up to the rising sun. Today is her birthday, and she started on the chores early so she could enjoy some leisure time before her party tonight. The animals all have been fed and given fresh water. The stalls had fresh hay and the horses were out in the pasture.

Lady Cornith grabs the tools needed to mend the fence where the top bar was broken off and her staff, she never has it far from hand just in case, and started to the North end of her property. Here the trees of the forest come right to the end of her pasture. Setting down the tools, she takes a sugar cube out of her pocket to feed Falcon. The big stallion had followed her to the fence.

As Lady Cornith scratches the blaze of white on his head, she hears a shriek of terror. Falcons ears flatten and she calms the beast as she listens. The forest has gone silent. Just when she thinks it must have been a bird or animal, she hears a woman cry out HELP US! SOMEONE PLEASE! and the sound of someone crashing through the forest.

She pauses, and then reaches back for her staff leaning on the fence. Lady Cornith grabs a handful of Falcons mane with her free hand and pulls herself up onto his back. With a click of her tongue and a slight kick of her heel, the horse takes off. Easily clearing the low area in the fence, Falcon enters the forest, able to follow his mistresss slights movement to carry her safely but quickly through the trees. Where are you? Lady Cornith calls out.

Suddenly a woman appears as if out of nowhere. Her skirt in tatters, tears tracking down her dirty face. When Falcon stops next to her, the woman clutches at Lady Corniths leg. Please, please help my husband and my son. Where? Whats wrong? Lady Cornith asks. The woman starts gasping, panic making it impossible for her to continue. She points down a deer trail.

Wait here. Lady Cornith says and sets off again. The trail is narrow, her legs brushing branches as they pass. Luckily, the woman had left a trail that was easy to follow in her flight to find help for her family. A bellow of rage reaches her and Lady Cornith stops Falcon and dismounts. As laughter follows the outburst of anger, she silently moves forward until she reaches the edge of a clearing.

There is a ransacked campsite in the clearing. Quickly taking stock of the situation, Lady Cornith sees 4 bandits playing with a man. Another holds a little boy of about 4. Were going to sell him to the highest bidder and youll never see him again, one of the men taunts the captive again. The boy is crying silently, his body racked with sobs. His father is trying to fight off the man, but they stay out of his way. She can tell he is exhausted and only the fear of what might happen to his son keeping him on his feet.

With fire in her eyes, Lady Cornith remounts Falcon and crashes into the clearing. Everyone has stopped, stunned at the sudden appearance of Falcon and his rider in their midst.

With a battle cry, Lady Cornith urges Falcon faster. As they gallop past the group, a single swing of her staff knocks one man to the ground. She slows Falcon to turn and gets her legs under her so she is squatting on his back. The Father is fighting again, renewed strength in his attack.

The man with the boy has taken off and Lady Cornith sets off after him. She launches herself off Falcon and hits the man squarely in the back, bringing all three of them to the ground. Lady Cornith wraps her arm around the mans neck and squeezes, cutting off his air until hes unconscious. She rolls him to the side and reaches to the boy. Are you hurt? The two stand and he looks shyly at her, shaking his head no. Good boy. Stay here so I can help your daddy, Okay? This time the boy nods at her.

Lady Cornith picks up her staff from where it has fallen and sees the Mother come out of the trees and run towards her son. Turning towards the remaining man, she sees that the Father has managed to serious wound one of the bandits who is crawling away. She runs past him and clubs him in the head to make sure he doesnt escape then joins the Father.

One for you and one for me, she says to him. Thats fine with me, he replies. With the odds now even, the bandits turn cowardly and try to run away. Lady Cornith trips one with her staff, sending him face first into the dirt. A quick blow and hes done. The father tackles the other and after a brief wrestling match, the bandit lays still.

The Father rushes back to his family. All are shaking but safe now. Lady Cornith finds some rope. The couple approach her and offer their gratitude for her help. If you hadnt come along the man starts to say but cant finish. Dont mention it, Lady Cornith says, Lets tie these men up. You can go to town and send someone back for them. The man helps Lady Cornith drag the men together. After checking them for weapons, they tie them up. Then, gathering their belongings, the small group heads out. At Lady Corniths place, they part ways. Take care of each other and be safe, she says as the family heads out to town.

Its well past midday and Lady Cornith is wondering if shell be able to clean up and get to town in time for her party. Oh well the birthday girl will be late but she wouldnt have done one thing differently, she thinks as she gathers a towel and heads to her bath house. The forum family helped her build it after she found out there was a hot spring on her property.

She gets to the door and hears clapping. She turns, looking for the source but sees no one. The sound stops and she shrugs and turns back, reaching for the handle. The clapping starts again. This time when she turns, a man stands there. Tall, dressed in black leather, dark good looks that can turn the most frigid woman into a willing partner.

You are truly an amazing woman, Ares says huskily as he takes Lady Cornith into his arms. His mouth closes on hers in a searing kiss. Lady Cornith wraps her arms around his neck, pressing harder into the God. He moans low in his throat and takes a small nip on her bottom lip as he ends the kiss.

What do I owe such a compliment from you for? she asks a little breathlessly as Ares trails kisses down her neck. He tightens his grip and lifts her off her feet, I saw you save that boy, that family. Then you should have helped. She replies back saucily.

He chuckles at her, only you can get away with answering me like that. He easily holds her with one arm as he opens the door to the bath house. For now, I think a bath for two is in order. Im glad you put in a really big tub, he says as he enters the bath house and kicks the door shut behind them.

Lady Cornith squirms out of his arm. Fill the tub while I light the candles and select some scented soaps. Ares grumbles about a mere mortal thinking she can boss around the God of War but primes the pump and starts to fill the tub. Lady Cornith lights the candles and selects some soaps to put in the tub.

The two move towards each other, the Dark God and the Woman of Light. They couldnt have resisted even if they wanted too, drawn to each other on a level deep and primal. Slowly, teasingly clothing is shed. Light touches and tender caresses. Soft whispers of pleasure and gentle kisses. Water splashes over the tub as the lovers join together in the tub. Touch by touch, they climb higher and higher together until they go over the edge and spiral down into a pool of lazy contentment.

The two lay back in the tub. The water now lukewarm. I need to finish washing up and getting ready for the party. You are going to escort me tonight. Well, Ares draws out, I was think of going... He doesnt finish as Lady Cornith playfully punches him in the arm.

Ares laughs along with her and helps her wash up. He leaves the tub and helps her out, wrapping her in a soft towel. He leans in and kisses her softly. We could just skip the party and stay here, he suggests when they part. Lady Cornith is surprised by the tender pleading she sees on his face. I would love nothing more, but Theres always a but he says.

With a reluctant look, he moves back away from the strong temptation before him. Lets get you ready then. When Lady Cornith makes to go around him, he stops her. My present for you is right here, he says and claps his hands. The two of them are surrounded by a bright light. When it fades, the God of War is dressed in his black leathers, sure to turn the heads of all ladies. But if Ares was striking to look at, Lady Cornith was absolutely stunning. A dress of the purest blue silk clung to her curves and flowed to the floor. Sapphires glittered at her earlobes and a matching bracelet sparkled on her wrist.

Ares, she said disbelievingly, this is... Simply spectacular, he finishes for her. I will take back what I said earlier. You are not just amazing. Your beauty surpasses all things on Earth and on Mount Olympus. Lady Cornith blushes at the compliment. Ares smirks, just dont tell Aphrodite I said that or shell turn me into frog. As Lady Corniths laughter rings out, Ares gathers her close, whispering in her ear hold on tight. The two disappear from the bath house.

In town, the forum family has started the party. In the middle of the dance floor, a ball of blue light appears. As it fades, Lady Cornith and Ares are seen, dancing slowly together.
As the last notes fade, the family begins to sing

Happy Birthday to you!
Happy birthday to you!
Happy birthday dear Lady Cornith!
Happy birthday to you!

The forum family partied late into the night. But Lady Cornith and her God of War left early for their own celebration.

Birds are already busy with their nests here, finally the snowbirds flew north for the spring, I was like about time.

We had a ton of Bluejays around the house the past few days, we put out stale bread for the Crow's, and it's drawn in the Bluejays.

As nasty as they are, they are beautiful birds.

I have ton of cardinals in my yard (mocking birds too). We get blue jays, but the cardinals hold their own against them. I feed the cardinals through the winter, so I have lots of them. They are my FAVORITES. The sight of one never fails to lift my spirits.

Thanks for the wishes, VO, Elara, everyone,

thanks again for the story, Peanit, great job. And for the thud photos, A2Z, you are so good at that!

Yeah I was watching them last night, the Cardinals, I had a pair out front, and the female went after one of the Blue Jays, I went

I don't feed the birds in the summer, I feel that there is plenty of food source out there for them, but come August, the Titmice and Chickadee's hang out front and start howlering for their Black Oiled Sunflower Seeds, so that's when I usually start feeding them.

I don't start with the ground feeders until I see the snowbirds on the ground, they head north for the summer, and I was shocked lastnight, there were still some out front, I was like, when are you going to Canada for the summer

I'm going to hang my hummingbird feeder out on Sunday
