Hey guys,

Just found some new Matchbox models and came across the latest version of the Audi RS6, except the packaging does not call it an Audi RS6 - instead it states '94 Audi Avant RS2 - the card art also shows the RS2 model.

I would be very happy to see the RS2 be made by Matchbox, but guess this is unlikely to happen with the RS6 being a similar shape. Anyway - fun little error - I do wonder how this happens.

Enjoy - Pete.

This is a great casting, I haven't seen this release yet- but will be looking to see if the car is correctly identified on the package when I do. Thanks for the heads-up.

Nice catch! I would not have known, unless it was a Mustang error detail......

Good catch, I'm intrigued about this. There is a member on here that has a lot of Matchbox knowledge, I wonder if there's any light to be shed on how this happened. It's interesting because they are similar car, but still completely different at the same time

What year is the RS6 Avant supposed to be? They look pretty darn close. Maybe they thought they could get away with it. A few small tampo changes.

The RS6 is a 2004 model (according to the base, which still states RS6). I can only assume that an external design house was used for the artwork and something got lost in the communications, and then missed in the artwork approval process - you would hope in the in-house team know the difference. Perhaps someone here knows more about?

This is indeed strange, you found this model in a store? Your theory in the last comment sounds the most plausible. Either that, or they indeed have an RS2 planned for the future and already had the artwork queued up.

Oh, one more thing, Pete. If this is your picture, can I post it to the Swifty's Instagram account? I can tag the Matchbox design team, and a few others that might know that might not see it here.

That is a world class mistake. I really wonder how they can't tell the difference, or know which casting they produce, as the RS6 has been around for years! The car in the card art is definitely the RS2 which doesn't look that much like the RS6

The RS2 was based on Audi 80, which originally appeared in the late 80's and was dropped in 1995. The RS6 is based on the larger A6 model of its second generation, which first appeared as a sedan in 1997 and as a wagon later. The 80/RS2 is way edgier on the design, and should not by any means get mixed with the RS6 Avant of the 2nd gen. A6.

Hey - yeah it’s my photo - found the model in my local Big-W store in Adelaide. I don’t mind it being reposted (didn’t know there was a swifty insta account).

Well Pete I've noticed how fresh your Matchbox purchases have got since you moved Down Under. Seems MBX distribution is far better than the UK!

There are some Power Grabs that only seem to be available in Australia: yellow Jeep Willys 4x4, 91 Mustang Police, blue Tesla and more. Have you seen them?

Ha! Yes, the distribution at Asda was the primary reason for moving :D

There are certainly more stores that sell Matchbox and they sell them on pegs! However, there are a lot of pegwarmers in South Australia. The 'Matchbox Original' models move slowly and tend to clog up the pegs and there are a lot of 2017 batch H & J to be found. But, clearly its not all bad - there are a couple of hot spots where stock seems to move quickly and new batches appear frequently.

I hear stock at Asda is moving better these days, just hope they move away from the generic HTI models.

Yeah, think I have seen the Jeep & Tesla a few weeks ago at Myer - I'm popping there on Sunday and can have a little look for them if you want?

Please! The yellow Willy’s 4x4 and the Mustang Police. I think there’s a green Seagrave fire truck too. I have the Tesla. That would be fantastic.

Hi, very sorry but I did not have any luck at the weekend. The box I thought I'd seen them in was empty. I'm heading to Queensland at the end of the month and will keep an eye out for you.

Pete.
