As I wrote to general discussion bay, I am going to downsize my collection big time. My goal is to have as little cars as possible, and I am going to be extremely picky regarding deco, condition and other factors when I decide which cars are staying in the collection. It is going to be thousands of cars after the harvest too, but I am tired of having too much stuff, especially stuff that I don't really need (nor want that bad)

I am not going to collect variations anymore, as it constantly results getting cars you don't like. I also don't want stuff in worse than near mint condition to my collection, unless it is something really special or amazing. Childhood cars are an exception, they are staying, and will be stored in boxes (the best ones in jammers within the rest of the collection).

I am going to go through the collection jammer by jammer. I take an empty jammer case, and pick the cars I am keeping one by one, really thinking many times whether I must keep this car or not. The remaining cars will include many custom builds, as I have done a lot, and not letting them go easily. My main focus in the near future is to upgrade my favourite Majorette cars to mint ones and add Tomica and Spanish diecast, especially Guisvals, to the collection as well as expand my collection of American brands.

Here is a jammer #1 of cars, that are staying in my collection after this huge harvest that has begun. I will slowly post my entire collection as the harvest proceeds. Feel free to comment on the harvest or the cars.

Having been doing something similar for a while know this is a very challenging process. Best wishes as you work your way through your collection. :toy:

:D

The only way that sending unwanted cars to you could help is that you would finally reach the point when you start the harvest :D

It is always interesting to see what we choose to keep and what we choose to let go of when we thin out our collections. ;) And sometimes surprising of what we let go of.

That is a Chevrolet Lacetti by Norev (sold here as Chevrolet Nubira, in the US I think it was sold as a Suzuki)

White Majo Saab is a custom. I am keeping my customs mixed with the rest of my collection

Way to go Risto!
It is a challenge, as on your way, you will start noticing cars you have let go once would cross your way in mint condition, begging to be bought.
But the whole process is an extremely important one.
Often less is more.

Thanks for encouragement! I have noticed that some cars I am letting go are simply something I know I won't regret later, but I also noticed there are some cars that don't appeal to me too much because of their playworn condition, but I am not willing to let them go until I found a better example. Most of them are Majorettes from the late 80's, so I really need to start hunting for them.

One big portion of my collection that I am thinning is my collection of HW mainline American muscle cars. They got me back to 1/64 collection in 2009 when I just couldn't resist a nice '69 Chevelle in dark red on the pegs. After that I have bought all variations of certain castings I have found, only to notice they the newer version, the worse they are. So I am keeping only the nicest ones in the future, most of them with striping instead of flames, and with 5-spoke wheels

I have now filled 50 jammers with mint or near mint cars (and a few really special ones in lesser condition). Now I am out of jammers, but I have a shipment of 10 coming in next week. I hope the rest will fit to those.

I wish the jammers cost the same here than in the U.S... but not. They cost three times more. Still the best, and I think really classy, way to store the cars.
