Originally termed praise song or praise music, then praise and worship; now it is worship music. Worship music is set in some musical style often with repeating, short, easily sung chorus parts [quoted]. Repetitionis this why the expression 7/11 songs defined as seven words, repeat eleven times or something like that?
Then, the need for a worship leadera man-contrived church position or officenot really a surprise in the denominational world with no church elders
I might add that the evolutionary musical worship common among Charismatic/Contemporary/Community churches [with instruments] has arrived and invaded certain churches of Christ. These transforming [especially mega] churches in the brotherhood have also employed the professional services of the worship leader. Then, the congregations Worship Leader further modifies the method in which musical worship is to be conducted in the Worship Center. This is accomplished by employing the musical services of the Praise Team.
Well, the Praise Team performances (with hand-held microphonesdont forget) are, of course, so much better than the congregational singing of either the singy-clappy 7-11 musical praise songs or the complicated musical pieces.
Thats a very brief history of the contemporaneous musical worship
and the reader may be familiar with that already.
What about the emphasis in musical worship versus the intent of the gathering of the saints for teaching and admonishing one another and for letting the words of Christ dwell in us richly as taught in the New Testament?
What about the employment of a professional staff memberthe Worship Leaderin the church, when the full-time salary could be well spent in world evangelism and benevolence instead? Shouldnt the elders of the church be responsible for the misuse and abuse of the church treasury? What would Christ and the apostles do or say face-to-face with the Worship Leader and with the elders for implementing such a scheme?
