Christ the Rock defined the Qahal, Synagogue or Church of Christ in Prophecy both inclusively and exclusively.

Lucifer is called by Christ "the singing and harp playing prostute in the garden of Eden." She-he-it came equipped with Wind, String and Percussion instruments. Christ in Isaiah 30 identifies these types of instruments as the MARKS or SOUNDS of God driving His enemies into hell.

Speaking through John, Jesus calls the speakers, singers and instrument players as AGENTS of the Babylon Mother of Harlots. He said that they WERE SORCERERS who Had deceived the Whole World. God sent Jesus to seek and save LOST SPIRITS. He would not pray for the world and God HID Himself from the Sophists: slick speakers, singers and instrument players. These are recorded in history as the MARKS of the effeminate and the watching world still sees the same PERSONA when males get up, wave their arms, clap their hands, gyrate and SING their own "scriptures" just like the Scribes and pharisees.

Blasphemy of the Spirit of Christ in Jeremiah is saying that God said something which He did not say. God gave everyone plenty of room NOT to be guilty by commanding that His Word be PREACHED by being READ in the Qahal, synagogue or Church of Christ in the wilderness. Especially Peter and Paul show that the only assembly of believers is as DISCIPLES: disciples are students and not ceremonial worship legalists. Jesus died to remove the laded burden (arousal songs) and the burden laders.

Since Jay Guin has been trying to sect out A Progressive Church of Christ I have posted some of the warnings against blasphemy on our review of Him.

http://www.piney.com/Jay.Guin.Reviews.html

A large part of out GNP has been built upon the foundation that Paul commanded the use of instruments in what students know to be A School of Christ where Jesus is still teaching His Words through His Spirit Word guaranteed by Jesus Christ the Righteous whom John says is the Holy spirit Comforter.

The Psallo word upon which the Progressive churches build has absolutely no musical content: even when it is USED to pluck a harp string it still does not contain rhythm, melody and of course no harmony was possible.

Therefore, you have to confess that the Spirit OF Christ and all recorded literature was simply not literate enough to be out teachers: that is called blasphemy.

<font face="arial" size="4">Since melos or melody is the opposite of rhema or speaking about the covenant and law, it is impossible to both sing AND make melody at the same time with or without an instrument. The "logos" forms of speech are also the opposite of poetry or music.

I can't tell you what you can or cannot do: I can tell you what Scripture says and you can take it from there.

Martin Luther, all of the founders of denominations and all of the Church Fathers agree with the Spirit OF Christ in the prophets:

54. Therefore, God complains most of the Jews in the second chapter of Micah,

because they silenced his praise,
while at the same time, they piped, blared and moaned like we do.
True divine service of praise cannot be established with revenues,
nor be circumscribed by laws and statutes.
High and low festivals have nothing to do with it.
It emanates from the Gospel, and certainly is as often rendered by a poor,
rustic servant as by a great bishop. [51]

that they shall not take shame.

Ovid Met. 11.57
Now whyle the Thracian Poet with this song delyghts the mynds
Of savage beastes, and drawes both stones and trees ageynst their kynds,
Behold the wyves of Ciconie with red deer skinnes about
Their furious brists as in the feeld they gadded on a rout,

Espyde him from a hillocks toppe still singing to his harp.
Of whom one shooke her head at him, and thus began to carp:
Behold (sayes shee) behold yoon same is he that doth disdeine
Us women. And with that same woord shee sent her lawnce amayne

At Orphyes singing mouth. The Lawnce armd round about with leaves,
Did hit him, and without a wound a marke behynd it leaves.
Another threw a stone at him, which vanquisht with his sweete
And most melodius harmonye, fell humbly at his feete

As sorye for the furious act it purposed. But rash
And heady ryot out of frame all reason now did dash,
And frantik outrage reigned. Yit had the sweetenesse of his song
Appeasd all weapons, saving that the noyse now growing strong

With blowing shalmes, and beating drummes, and bedlem howling out,
And clapping hands on every syde by Bacchus drunken rout,
Did drowne the sownd of Orphyes harp. Then first of all stones were
Made ruddy with the prophets blood, and could not give him eare.

And first the flocke of Bacchus froes by violence brake the ring
Of Serpents, birds, and savage beastes that for to heere him sing
Sate gazing round about him there. And then with bluddy hands
They ran uppon the prophet who among them singing stands.

Ken, I am not as smart as you are on this topic. My discussion with folks about instrumental music is limited to three areas. First, instruments were never used in the Jewish Temple for worship, and this carried over to the Christian worship service. (There is no evidence of instruments in the First Century Church. Second, instruments were not introduced to a worship service of any type until app. 900 A.D. (Imagine today going against a religious practice that originated in the year 1100 and trying to justify those changes.) Third, all founders of the major denominations wrote against the introduction of instruments into the organized worship service. (Calvin, Wesley, etc. have all published their objections to instruments.) This is a very unknown fact to everyone, that even the founder of their particular denomination strongly objected to instruments.

I am not philosophical enough for the "psallo" argument, but stick strictly to the known facts. Thanks for trying to educate me in these other areas.

Ken, I am not as smart as you are on this topic. My discussion with folks about instrumental music is limited to three areas.

First, instruments were never used in the Jewish Temple for worship, and this carried over to the Christian worship service. (There is no evidence of instruments in the First Century Church.

The synagogue or church of Christ in the wilderness was defined long before the temple. That outlawed "vocal or instrumental rejoicing or elevated forms of speaking."

The king, kingdom, temple, sacrifices or the Levites performed as soothsayers and GUARDS to execute any godly person who came near. That is what God commanded but the imposers say that God commanded instruments. You probably will not find a "conservative" preacher who will not attack you for saying that God never commanded what Scripture says that David commanded under the King and Commanders of the Army: that came naturally when God "commanded" that they be turned over to worship the starry host and sentenced to go beyond Babylon which meant "no return."

No one worshipped IN the holy places and a clergy singer or instrument player who went into the holy place as type of church would be executed.

The synagogue continued in small groups and the civilians were quarantined FROM the sacrificial system which God commanded be confined behind the city walls. This was the worship of the Starry host and not Jehovah: so says the Jewish Encyclopedia and Stephen in Acts 7.

The Spirit of Christ in the prophets radically condemned the Civil-Military-Clergy complex and the use of music which caused the people to hunger and thirst for the Word: they are called robbers and parasites. The Greek word for a sacrificial musician is PARASITE.

If you define words rather than looking for a law which prevents you from doing what God abandoned the Jews to, you will find a flood of information using musical instruments as the mark meaning: we will not listen to the words of God in songs and sermons (Amos 5; Isaiah 5)

Second, instruments were not introduced to a worship service of any type until app. 900 A.D. (Imagine today going against a religious practice that originated in the year 1100 and trying to justify those changes.)

Again, if you define words and listen to Jesus He defined the Scribes and Pharisees (self-speakers, self-singers) as hypocrites: in the Ezekiel 33 passage Christ named performance speakers, singers and instrument players. The MARK was that people went to be entertained and the performers went to get paid and the message was WE WILL NOT OBEY YOUR WORDS.

The organs introduced in Cathedral towns (site of the fairs) were not by the wish of the priests: kings or rich patrons put the organs in the Cathedrals where the OFFICIAL mass was held and which had nothing to do with the people being present. The Catholics originally chanted only the Biblical text none of which is set to meter and could not be accompanied. The Catholics did not engage in "congregational singing with organ accompaniment." The organ played by monks or composers performed processionals, intermissions and recessionals. This was not part of the official Mass.

No one sang congregationally in a tuneful melody form until after Calvin who permitted some of the psalms (only) to be set to meter to be sung in unison (only). Because none of the Bible can be sung tunefully, the Psalms had to be radically rewritten to make singing possible.

As late as the 1911 Catholic Encyclopedia it was unlawful to use the organ in the Sistine Chapel (capel) where the only official mass was held by the Pope. The castrated "a cappella fellas" were imported from the French Opera to perform a pseudo pipe-organ: it was called ORGANUM as an elementary form of harmony.

Third, all founders of the major denominations wrote against the introduction of instruments into the organized worship service. (Calvin, Wesley, etc. have all published their objections to instruments.) This is a very unknown fact to everyone, that even the founder of their particular denomination strongly objected to instruments.

That's a fact: some of the best material was written by the Presbyterians when the Scotland State Church imposed instruments for STATE rituals which was the reason Queen Elizabeth vetoed the vote to remove the organs in the Church of England. The "roots" of the Church of Christ in contrast to the Disciples / Christian Churches never in recorded history had ever used instruments.
