Lower Caverns

On one side of the flat top of the plateau which passes for the Weyr's "bowl," there is a ledge which juts out, starting level with the top of the mesa but gradually moving down along its side, wide enough for a small dragon to walk on for most of its length, until it reaches a cave opening large enough to admit a Scout. This is the entrance to the Lower Caverns of Plateau Weyr, though due to the topography of the Weyr, it might be more accurate to call them the outermost of the Inner Caverns. The immense mesa holding the Weyr is honeycombed by limestone caverns and tunnels; within those too small for almost all dragons to pass through are the working, eating, and living spaces of the Weyrfolk. Included herein are the Dining Cavern, the Kitchens, the various Craft Caverns, including the Weyr's two actual secondary Crafthalls (Soldier and Harper), the underground lakes and rivers which are collectively known as the Water Caverns, plus countless miles of unused, uncharted caves and tunnels, the vast majority of which are natural.
