Vidian had been trying to construct a response to her when Dia returned, the response tied to her leg. He took it from her and shook his head. He wasn't falling for his mother's request. She would take them home and they would never a get an opportunity like this again. Focusing on Dia and demanded to know the precautions she'd taken when returning. He'd given her instructions, but he had to be sure she'd followed them. She showed herself leaping about various points over Pern before returning to him. There was no way she was followed.
She preened happily when he gave her a piece of the jerky and moved off to eat it away from the eyes of her jealous bond-net. Meanwhile, Vidian passed the note to Jiskomia to read.
'I'm relieved to hear that, but I'd still like to come see you. Where are you right now?'
When she'd finished reading it, he nodded at shimmer and the mohark set to work destroying the letter and reshaping the wood into a rose, complete with wooden stem. When she was finished, she nudged Jiskomia's hand, encouraging her to keep it.
It was impossible to tell how long they had been on the ship when they finally heard the shouts above them declaring the approach of land and the pounding of feet. Had they finally made it to the southern continent? Vidian breathed in sharply as he looked at Jiskomia. He'd been woken from sleep by the sudden noise above. He looked to shimmer and showed her an image of himself peering out a hole in the side of the ship.
Shimmer hopped up and formed a ledge higher up in their hiding place, making narrow steps leading to it. The she separated the wood to make a hole. Vidian hadn't asked for the platform, but when he climbed the stairs and looked out the hole, he realized if she hadn't made it, water would have come pouring in the hole.
He grinned looking out. They were positioned just right to see the approach a green and brown strip of land. He didn't realize it would be another hour before the anchor was set. When the hour did close and he could see the land more clearly, he practically bouncing with excitement. By this point, Shimmer had already made Jiskomia her own hole and platform, not that it was a huge difference. Vidian was too excited to keep from sending the images to her. He kept up a constant feed of what he was seeing. There were so many trees! That meant a lot of places to explore. It was bigger than he had thought and there weren't proper docks like there were on the Northern Continent so the ship had to anchor and take smaller boats to shore.
That could be a problem. He bit his lip, looking at Shimmer. Shimmer shook her self out and looked to Sapphire for help. Before either could move, Lilac stepped between Jiskomia and Vidian, perching on his platform. Vidian's eyes grew wide and he fed her an image of her shifting from a human to a firelizard. He didn't need to send the image, though, because she would be seeing the same thing happening to him.
With an appreciative trill, Shimmer made their peep holes big enough for them to fly out of. Most of Vidian's winger critters let out excited noises and flew past them to get into the open air. They'd been cooped up far too long. Vidian, silent as ever, sent an image of them in their new forms flying to land. He was careful to keep he concern that Lilac might not be able to undo this to himself. Surely she could, or she wouldn't have done it... With his intent made known, he hopped out the hole and promptly plummeted into the water. Flailing his wings, he panicked for a moment before Dia and Lilac dove down and helped him from the water, lifting him to a point where he could catch a drift of warmer air to give him a lift towards land. Two more firelizards were posed, ready to help Jiskomia into the air after seeing Vidian's spectacular fail at flying.
