The train, several tons of metal floating like a balloon over the energy-powered tracks was strangely familiar. Leather was without his cane, a sniper rifle resting over his shoulder. He and fabricio were both equipped with sniper rifles, while Addison carried the bombs, artfully prepared by their comrades in District Three, who would also manipulate the surveillance feeds so that they went in undetected. Kit had his own rifle, he was Addison's guard as they went from power tower to power tower. Leather and Fabricio would make sure that they weren't interrupted, their sniper rifles having two different chambers and two different modes--one for sleeping darts, and one for actual bullets.

Polly had packed them all a meal--the remains which were tossed out the window of the train. No evidence would be left behind. After letting Leather slip through their fingers, Commander Praxidike had upped the security on all trains. He looked around at their faces--trying to gauge the mental readiness of his team. What they were about to do would hopefully help many people reunite with loved ones separated by the Dark Days--and it would render the Capital uninhabitable. The pampered Capitolites would have to function without their supplies sent on time, they would be without the simple things like the electronic sliding doors, hovering sidewalks--and other futuristic necessities that they took for granted.

"We're almost there." He murmured into the darkness. "If anyone wants to hang back, now is the time to tell me. Switch over to radio communication, frequency 7." Actually, the time to tell him was back at headquarters. Leather moved his shaggy hair back away from his face. The rebel leader was dressed in black, and originally, they had planned on making the trip home by foot, but the car they were in was housing personal assault vehicles for the Peacekeepers from District Six, gassed up and ready to go.

Perhaps they would return back to Eight in style.

Kit wasn't nervous. He had reached a state of Nirvana where he no longer feared for his life. No matter what happened he would remain cool and collected, hopefully. Truth be told, he wasn't sure he could handle losing any of his team members or have them get taken, but for the moment he would pretend that wasn't a possibility and retain his air of quiet confidence. They were all grown, this was not the first mission they were in. Granted, it was a big one, which would bring good things to lots of people, but not as dangerous as the train heist, where Kit had lost his best friends, or the hacking of the Nut, where they had temporarily misplaced their leader.

In and out, that was all they had to do. Get in, place some bombs, get out. It was simple enough, and Kit had faith in everyone. He was sure Leather and Fabricio wouldn't let anything happen behind their backs, just like Kit wouldn't let anything happen to Addison while she was working. At least he wouldn't have to be the one placing the bombs; Kit was much better at aiming and pressing the trigger than he was at setting up bombs, and at such an important time he wouldn't want to risk blowing himself up by accident.

Leather asked one more time if any of them wanted to bail out, and for a second Kit considered jokingly saying he did but ultimately decided against it when he took another glance at the team. This was no time for jokes. Switching his radio over to frequency 7, he quickly checked yhe rest of his gear to make sure everything was in place. These small moments inside the trains where the quiet before the storm, but Kit had come to enjoy them. It was a time for unity before they all split up and headed into battle. "I just wanted to say, before we go, that no matter what happens, I am very happy I can be here today, doing something good."

The train slowly skidded to a halt, indicating it was time to move. Getting up, Kit approached the door and slowly openes it, taking a look outside. Everything was as they had expected it to be, so he took one step out. Before getting any further he looked back into the eerie darkness of the train and towards his team, his friends. "Also, I love all of you. Let's try not to die."

Addison was ready to do anything it took to get the job done. She wasn't afraid of being blown up, she wasn't afraid of something going wrong, because if she did die in the process of all of it, at least she was doing something good. Her eyes stared forward in the dark train car as they floated along the tracks towards district five. The rhythmic motion of the train calmed her slightly frazzled nerves. It wasn't the fact of setting bombs to blow up the dam, no, it was the fact that she hadn't really spoken to Kit since his 'space' had been given. She knew that he wouldn't let anything bad happen to her, but would he be focused?

When the train came to a slowed halt, Leather spoke. He said if they wanted to back out, now was the time. There was no way in hell she was backing out now. She had been prepping herself for this mission since Leather brought it up. Her head shook from side to side even though Leather probably couldn't see her, it was more of her own reassurance than for theirs. The doors were then pulled open and Kit pulled them open. He then turned to them and spoke. He loved them and no matter what happened he was proud to be a part of the team. As was she.

She didn't smile but she stood up and nodded at them all. "Here we go...Let's do this." She picked up the large bag and carefully slung it over her shoulder. After swinging her legs over the side she stepped out of the train. Addison knew they could pull this off and when the did the capitol would suffer.

Leather went over and clapped Kit on the back. "No one is dying today. We're all going home." He promised, even though it was probably a bad idea to promise something he had absolutely no control over. It occurred to him, after he had said the words, that perhaps they all did this not to save their own lives, but to save the lives of countless other citizens, young and old.

Fabricio and Leather, once disembarking, went in an opposite direction the Kit and Addison went. The two men went toward the highest point in District Five, where they could survey anything and everything going on in the energy district. The two men were low to the ground, the latest in sniper weaponry stolen from District Twelve for their use. It was a good thing that district five only had one active victor, the other nine houses went unused. The two men did their best to scale the side of one of the houses, getting to the roof of the empty home easily. The view was perfect, and they both hunkered down, low on the roof.

"We're in position." Leather murmured into his communicator, looking through his sights at Addison, Fabricio doing the same with Kit. "Cut off the head of the snake first--that largest building there, I believe is in charge of the Capitol. Wait." Leather's eyes narrowed. There was a light rounding a corner--nearest to Kit. "Fabricio--"

"Yeah, I see him." Fabricio pulled the trigger, and the peacekeeper making his rounds caught a bullet straight through the temple. Fabricio was apparently very good at this. "Better hurry, he'll be missed if he doesn't report in for his rounds." Leather cautioned the entire group.

The walk from the train to the place they would be exploding seemed to take forever to Kit. He saw the road stretch in front of him and the buildings become farther and farther away. Leather’s words echoed in his mind, a small mantra to keep his hopes up and his heart calm as he moved forward, weapon in hand. Every now and then his eyes trailed back to Addison, who was walking with the bombs. This was probably worse for her. In case they got attacked at least Kit had a weapon to defend himself with, but all she had were bombs, and even if se were to light them up, she would probably do more bad than good.

As they finally reached the main area a voice crackled in Kit’s ear. Nodding at Leather’s instructions, he started walking again, keeping his weapon up now that they were closer to the area than ever. However, before he had made it very far there was another word from Leather, telling them to wait. Kit froze in place and immediately started looking around. From where he was he couldn’t see what the other two were seeing, so he took one step closer to Addison to make sure she was protected. ”Stay close, and no matter what, get those bombs in place.”

After Fabricio’s confirmation that there was indeed someone there was a small moment where everything seemed silent, and then Leather’s voice was heard again, making Kit’s heart go calmer. ”Alright, let’s go.”

In light steps, they made their way to first stop. Kit positioned himself so that he could watch Addison and the street at the same time. Now he had to admit that his hands were starting to get a bit sweaty. ”Are you sure there’s no one here Leather? Do you see any civilians?” He would hate to blow up inocent people, no matter what people said about sacrifices for the greater good. Hopefully, this wouldn’t be the case.

Addison carried the bombs that were to be set off to blow up the power grid. She felt like she had the most important job out of them but she would never say that out loud. It was a team effort and everyone was a critical piece in the puzzle. Leather and Fabrico were in place and Kit was in front of her with the weapon. She had no way of defending herself, beside the side arm on her belt but it would take the risk of dropping the bombs in order to fire the weapon. No, she had to depend on Kit, Leather and Fabrico to protect her life.

A voice spoke in their ear, Leather. wait. Someone was around them but Addison couldn't see much of anything. Kit took a step back towards her and she practically held her breath. After hearing a small thud and Leather's voice confirming the shot, she let out a sigh and nodded at Kit. "You got it."

They rounded the corner and made their first stop, Kit was worried about innocents. As was Addison but at the same time, she couldn't stop working on setting up the bomb while Kit spoke to Leather. There was only a certain amount of time and she couldn't waste a moment of it. She crossed a few wires, tapped a few buttons and with that, the timer was set and it was ticking away. "Got it, we have to move." She waited for Kit, but picked up the rest of her gear before heading off to the next target.

"The citizens have been cautioned, by our operatives in every single district to remain indoors, and definitely away from the fences." Leather explained. He could have sworn that he he covered this back at headquarters. "If anyone is out and about, at this point, it is out of our hands. Our job is to secure your position."

From where he and Fabricio were situated, they could see the different power grids that ran in all directions from District Five. "Get the lead out, you two. We don't want to be here a second longer than we have to--and that first one is wired to go in less than five minutes." Leather wasn't as fast as he used to be--Kit and Addison were arguably the fastest in their little band, so that was the reason they were out there, and he was calling the shots from the inside.

"Addison, twelve o'clock." Leather murmured, before curling his index finger around the trigger, and taking the shot at the peacekeeper. There was no room for error tonight, every shot had to be a kill-shot. Leather never thought he would be grateful for the Capitol--but the fact that Peacekeepers were denied families of their own until they were forcibly retired at age 40…meant his conscience was mostly clear.

"Not much longer now." crackled his voice in their earpieces. "The gala must be in full swing."

Kit listened to Leather’s words, just like he had listened at the meeting they had had in the headquarters, but he still couldn’t feel positive about this. Sure, people had been warned, but that didn’t mean there was no one around. What if some kids had decided to sneak out and come play to this area? What if a worker had forgotten something important in his locker and came back to get it? There were a bunch of reasons as to why someone might be, right now, in mortal danger, and Kit just couldn’t feel confident about this.

Yet he just took a deep breath and kept going on. He had to. Lots of people had died for the cause already, it would be a disrespect to their souls to give up now. Somewhere, somehow, Gunner, Paisley, Qiana and all the others were watching him, and they were giving him the strength to carry on. Five minutes, that was the time they had to get the job done and get out before they too were blown to pieces.

Taking another deep breath Kit walked forwards, scouting the space ahead while Addison installed the next bomb. The area seemed clear, but since he was much closer he didn’t have the same angle of vision that Leather and Fabricio had. He turned another corner to check yet another area, make sure there really was no one there, and found himself face to face with a Peacekeeper. The man raised his gun, and Kit raised his. For a second there, they stared at each other, neither willing to risk making a move, considering how close they were.

They both knew that if the Peacekeeper called for backup this mission would be screwed, but the man was silent. Perhaps he knew that as soon as he opened up his mouth to speak Kit would shoot him, even if that meant getting shot himself. Sweat was dripping down the back of his neck and on his forehead. Kit quickly blinked to get it out of his eyes, and when he opened them again the Peacekeeper was slumping to the floor, dead.

”It’ll be your turn to cook lunch for the rest of the week.” This time Kit breathed a sigh of relief. This could have been really disastrous. "Addison, twelve o'clock." Now it was Leather talking, and his voice sent Kit’s heart beating even faster than it had when he was facing that Peacekeeper. He quickly turned around and ran towards were Addison was. He wasn’t very far, a couple of steps was all it took to get him back there, but he still felt guilty. Leather had taken care of the threat, of course, but Kit should have been there. She was defenseless and it was his job to watch her back.

No one was blaming him, but he was blaming himself. Leather’s voice was heard again and Kit started bouncing from one foot to the other. ”I’ve cleared the area ahead, we should be good to go. Are you okay Addison?” He shifted his weight from one foot to the other. Just a couple more minutes now and he would be out of here.

Addison knew that they didn't really have much time to get these bombs in place. Her mind wasn't set on the innocents that might be taken today, as it was with Kit. Her mind wasn't on the peacekeepers that were lurking about, as they were with Leather. No, her mind was much more focused on making sure that each bomb was set properly and would detonate when it was supposed to.

When Kit wandered off, she didn't think anything of it, nor did she panic when Leather told her, twelve o'clock. It wasn't that she wasn't worried about dying or anything. But she also trusted her partners to protect her at all costs. It was the reason after she got the second bomb set up, she didn't flinch when she watched as the peacekeeper fell to the ground. "Thanks Leather." She didn't do much but thank him before rushing off to the next stop. There would be plenty of time to thank him, smile at him and give him a big ol' hug after they all survived this.

The final bomb was finally set into place. She focused, as sweat dripped from her brow. She quickly set the bomb and then stood up. "Time to go, Kit." She said in a serious tone. Now that she was free of the bombs, she pulled her pistol from her hip. "Leather, last one is in place. We are on the move. should be out in five." She then nodded to Kit before heading out of the area. She knew she had to be careful but they also had to hurry. They had less time now. Her feet padded against the ground as she ran from the area to get back to the train.

When they were just barely out, she heard the first bomb go off, then the second the third and so on. It was working, but she couldn't sit around and wait to find out if they all worked. She threw her body up into the train and looked back at the power plant. "You making it out Leather, Fabrico?" She then picked her head up and looked as the last bomb blew and the lights to Panem went out. She smiled a little to herself. "We have success gentlemen."

It was happening. After Addison informed them that they were headed back for the train, Fabricio and Leather sprung into action. They packed away their sniper rifles, checked that they left behind no evidence, and went in the same direction. Back into the train car they went, with Fabricio using his strength to open the rear door of the train and Leather using his guile to locate the keys. The all-black vehicles would take them back to Eight in double the time, being fully gassed and ready to go.

The problem was, Leather could not drive--not with his injuries. The first blasts were terrific, almost deafening and sure to cover the sound of them starting up the all terrain vehicles. Leather waited for Addison and Kit, gesturing them toward the car and climbing aboard behind Addison once she started up the vehicle. Without turning on the headlights, the rebels made their way from District Five, sparks and smoke issuing from the destroyed power plants.

Panem was plunged into darkness.

"Without us, there is no them." Leather whispered, as they left District Five. "This is just the beginning. They'll be coming after us all. We can't stay in District Eight, we need to move the headquarters District Thirteen and link up with our comrades there."

"Time to go, Kit." The words were like music to his hears. They were so close to making it. All of Kit’s skin was tingling with expectation. As soon as Addison started moving Kit set after her, his rifle pointed at the floor, to make sure there were no misfires. He ran as fast as he could, while also watching his surroundings, but nothing happened. The only sound was that of the blasts.

Kit resisted the urge to cover his hears with his hands as he kept pressing forward. The blast of the explosion seemed to carry him further quicker than he would have been able to do on his own, like the atomic wind from it was blowing him away. When he finally saw the train ahead with Leather at the door he breathed with relief.

They all made it inside, and Kit hurried to get on his vehicle after giving Fabricio a quick hug. The last bomb went out, and suddenly everything was darker. Glancing around, Kit could only slightly make out the shadows of his teammates. They all started their engines and made it out of there as quickly as possible.

For a while no one spoke, but then Leather’s words broke the silence. Once more a shiver of fear went down Kit’s back. Everything would change if they moved to District Thirteen. He couldn’t even begin to imagine how it would be. Especially because part of him still was reluctant to believe District Thirteen was a thing, despite the countless contacts the rebellion had had with them.

The world was changing, and he could either change with it, or be left behind.

Addison watched as Leather and Fabrico run towards them. Thank goodness they were safe. Leather jumped into the train car and Addison quickly pushed herself to her feet. She jumped onto the ATV and started it up as soon as the explosions started. It was the best time to start them, that way they weren't given away. As soon as she had hers stared, she felt Leather jump onto the back. "Hang on Leather." She turned the handles forward and the vehicle lurched forward. She panicked and stopped for a brief moment before watching as Kit started his. She followed off after him and they were well on their way.

At first her driving was a little shaky and unnerving but she quickly got the hang of it. She had never driven a vehicle before, so she was actually doing surprising well considering. She looked over at Kit and listened as the man behind her spoke. Moving from eight, the only place she had ever known to place she barely knew District thirteen, it was a just a dream for most. But for them it was their saving grace.
