Krystal started as a character from a completely different game, she was supposed to be a cat too. Rare went to Nintendo with their design for "Dinosaur Planet" and Nintendo said "Screw you Rare, we're gonna make this a Star Fox game, that'll REALLY rake in the dough" and it did. Anyway, no, I don't think that Krystal really fits in, if Nintendo hadn't rushed her story with stereotypes and cliche's, then sure, she'd fit in more.

Now on to Kursed. Kursed in my opinion is not a badass. I agree with Waffles's post almost wholeheartedly. If she were a REAL badass she wouldn't be afraid to confront Fox about these issues they had. And maybe if the story thereafter actually led somewhere, instead of some poorly thought out, halfassed cliffhanger, maybe, just maybe, she'd be a bit more likeable. Bounty Hunter = badass ONLY if you're talking about someone who has actually demonstrated their skill, IE: Jango Fett, Boba Fett, and Samus Aran. Kursed however, has not.

The regular characters have more story than Kursed and Krystal combined in my opinion. You actually know why Fox fights, you actually find out why each member is on the team. However, Krystal, you don't know anything about. She goes to some planet called Sauria... Why? Let's ask Mr Nintendo Dev, shall we?
Nintendo Dev: "Uhh, telepathy.. Yeah... Uhh, she is telepathic because she's a princess from another planet... Called Cerinia... Annd... All the residents of this planet have telepathy... Yeah."
Oh, really? I'd like to go there some time, where is it?
Nintendo Dev: "Uhh you can't... It's uhh... It was blown up by Andross, including Krystal's family... Yeah"
Ooookay.... So she went around looking for Andross in search of vengeance? The same way that the Star Fox team did?
Nintendo Dev: "No, oh no no no, she.... Uhh, she just got a telepathic signal of a planet in distress... Oh and she speaks the language of the indigenous people... Because she's telepathic, yeah"
Well screw you Nintendo, way to promise a good story and let us down with the actual reasoning behind why she's there.

Anyway, my point is, Kursed = not badass, and Story =/= badass. Story = good character, Bounty Hunter = badass if you prove it, and Krystal =/= a well thought out, or fitting character.

And I haven't even GOTTEN to Kursed's story. Basically, she joins Star Wolf, why? Because Fox wouldn't let her fight, and she joins Star Wolf. Why? I dunno, it made sense at the time? Apparently, bad people aren't so bad when your ex boyfriend hates them? I don't know, there isn't much logic behind it. But here's where it really gets you: She joins Star Wolf, and DOESN'T expect to be called a traitor. Now Star Fox is really famous, they're known about all throughout Corneria. Star Wolf is also well known, especially as the main enemy of Star Fox. Now, put two and two together, how can you lead me to believe Krystal wouldn't believe she would be called a traitor and generally hated like the rest of the freaking Star Wolf team? Now, that's not the worst part. The worst part is that when she found out she was being hated, and people were jeering her as she walked by, she LEFT. She freaking left her problems behind, went to start some new life doing something only briefly mentioned. And why did she leave her life behind and start a new identity? Because people were making fun of her. Not only is this a WTF moment, this is a sad moment for anyone with morals. If you screw up, and people ridicule it for you, you don't go and LEAVE and start a new identity, you suck it up and deal with it. You screwed up, this is your punishment, and now the love of your life won't even look at you anymore, He tried to wipe you away with booze and tears, and you just sit there behind your little console and watch. You see him once more on Kew, but what do you do? You stand there as he walks on by. I hope you're happy Kursed. Here's to you *Swills*

+1

^ this
And...
I think it could be because of the image on the game, it gives the impresion that she's not the same person she was, that her mind its totally changed, rotten by the by the pain she suffered.
Anyway I still prefer krystal.

What do you mean where's the drama? The drama is all around, you can sense it everywhere. When she sees him on Kew, she recognizes her, but she doesn't say a word, she just lets him walk by, and beforehand, she refuses to confront him, the drama there is that she refuses to do what's necessary for their relationship to survive. This causes Fox to think he's wasting his time, and she just eventually quits.

I have to agree with a lot of your decisions on this -- especially Arashikage. But, the reason I like her -- not love -- is because I develop a little bit of backbone into her given some fanfictions I've written and a comic I'm in the process of completing the first part.

Just like how Arashi's been pointing out, she avoids everything negative thrown at her and expects them to just go away on their own; in reality, they're like a thorn digging deeper into your eye.

In my personal opinion, I think the producers of this game just wanted a more serious Star Fox game and the final outcome didn't come as expected -- to us, more or less. Like how Game Informer once put it: "It's filled with High School drama sequences that try to be too serious and fails at it." I have to agree with them whole-heartedly; I saw a lot of dialogue to which I could compare to with in a teenager's point-of-view.

I'm just waiting for that ONE day when they make a Star Fox game right.

Wow, I must say Arashikage totally brought up the right points of why Kursed is not bad ass. Respect to you there, Arashi, I love the way you're thinking.

I can't say much since Arashi put up most of the important stuff...

Kursed was a nice idea, nothing against it, but what's up with the teenage-drama? Krystal seemed to be more inside her mind in Adventures and Assault which totally got lost in Command.

I can understand that Fox was scared that Krystal might get hurt and pushed her out of the team just to protect her, but for me both made some mistakes.

First off, Fox. He was okay with it when Krystal came along with him and the others at the end of Adventures and was a full member of the team only 1 year later. After the happenings of Assault nothing big happened, there was no threat for 3 years besides of Star Wolf. Falco left again while Slippy found a girlfriend in that off-time season, at the same time Fox and Krystal probably started to have problems with each other before the Anglars came up. The Anglars weren't much of a threat like the Aparoids were, and all of a sudden he forced Krystal to quit the Team because he felt it would be 'too dangerous for her'. I can understand his fear of losing his Girlfriend, but if he had this fear since the end of Adventures then why did he gave her permission to get a full member at the start!? Epic fail there, 'Foxie'.

Second, Krystal. She didn't understood the all in a sudden mind changing of Fox which hurted her deeply. Thinking that her boyfriend trusted her so much just to get kicked out of the team surely is a mind f*ck, especially when everything was very well during the Aparoid war. To kick his a$$ she joined the Cornerian Defense Force, just to provoke and prove him that she isn't afraid to fight against the Anglars, but for what? It wasn't a good choice of her hurting Fox with a cold shoulder and being 'open' for Panther, it was the worst movement someone can do. Krystal was angry, fine, but acting like a spoiled child just because she didn't got what she wanted isn't the right way to solve problems, no, it's making it even more worse and BOTH sides getting even more hurt.

Even further, it was very naive of her to think that she gets popular for joining Star Wolf just to steal Star Fox the show and being the new 'heroes of Lylat', it was clear that she would regret it sooner or later, but thinking that everybody would greet her with open arms after she betrayed Fox and the others was kind of stupid. Hurting Fox, getting blinded/used by Star Wolf and getting treated like a traitor by everyone... there wasn't any place for her to run to, at least she thought so. Bad move there, Krystal.

When we're thinking about the whole situation and the many different ways of how Command could end, you'll see that both characters made so many mistakes that it totally hurts your mind. Krystal made a big mistake of thinking she couldn't return to Fox and the others because everybody called her a traitor, and of course she felt that way after she got 'haunted' by those words, making her think that not even Fox would listen to the words she wants to say. Best solution: Showing the cold shoulder to the past and start a new life.

...It would be nice if it would be that easy as Nintendo/Q-Games wanted us to show in Command, but the truth is that Krystal fucked this up, since everybody else knew that Fox would listen to her even though she was betraying him and the Team. She was acting like someone who can't handle stuff like this, though everybody knows that she's actually a very tough woman. Where's her strong side? It's true that we don't know much about her past, only that her planet and family was blown up by Andross and that she has the unique ability called 'telepathy', but since the beginning of Adventures we saw that she actually has enough guts and power to fight back with a calm mind, something that was missing in Command and made her a whiny bitch.

Giving her a 'bad side' was the biggest mistake to make with her. In my eyes, Krystal wouldn't cry about all this, she would stand up in the search for Fox and trying to talk with him, making him realize that BOTH made mistakes and that she was thinking a bit too much about herself instead of seeing it from his point of view. No, instead she cried like a baby and turned into someone she never would be, thinking that there's no place for her to live and to be happy. That's not the Krystal I had in my memories.

I have nothing against the idea of Kursed, but I'm sure there are many other ways of making her appear instead of making Krystal an emo.

Let's all hope Nintendo itself didn't come up with any of that.

Well Command was an Idea of both Nintendo and Q-Games who also worked on Star Fox64... I really like Nintendo but this was a total mess up with an actual 'good' character.

Krystal herself: put more background info to her story, and slightly more personality traits to fill in the detail of her...and put her in a sexier outfit.

Kursed: Make her more dark, and awesome like Brandon Lee in "The Crow", and....put her in a sexier outfit.

Now that's how you improve on Krystal and Kursed! :P
