I have been out for lunch with a friend followed by a bit of retail therapy. Bought a trivet on behalf of my mum as a gift for my brother and 2 pairs of jeans from one of the charity shops- hardly got any smart trousers now

Well bracing ourselves here in the north for some very strong winds and potentially heavy snow on Thursday night. So I am off to Tesco this morning to stock up on a few things. Not something I normally do but getting older and not wanting to have to go out these days when the weather is bad!! Yesterday there was a major water leak in Lerwick and no one had running water for the whole day however the Lerwick Choral society rehearsal still went ahead despite the lack of a loo in the building! Amazing how many times the "p" word comes up in carols! we had such a laugh but did finish early so we could all get home for one!

There is a lovely programme on BBC1 each morning for the next two weeks called Island Medics. Starts at 9.15 and runs for 40 minutes. It is all about Shetland medics - hospital, ambulance and coastguard. There are some lovely scenery shots of Shetland too, not all about the hospital. Kevin Wately beautifully narrates as well.

Gales and heavy rain in Orkney today - schools shut, ferries and planes cancelled so staying in and finishing my essay. Snow forecast for tomorrow as the wind changes and comes from the North. Seems winter has come with a vengeance this year.

I've made a few Xmas cards but need to get more done soon! Think they will be very clean and simple. I did manage to make a couple of baby cards and a birthday card for my sister this week.

Stay warm everyone!

had to smile about you now needing a larger tree Becky. Hope the weather improves for you all -it has been wet and windy here but the sun did shine for a bit in the afternoon.
Jennie I think you all did splendidly to get through and evening without a loo -at last it is dark so early that it would be discreet to use a bush if needed!
Margaret, sorry to tell you that my cards are made and posted! But then I haven't been in the process of moving or writing essays so I have no excuses at all.
Have a bit of a bad back but yesterday did manage line dancing then a xmas party afterwards with the people I volunteer with -they are very enthusiastic disco dancers and were impressed with my flashing santa brooch and earrings.
Spent today pottering after a quick trip to get a replacement for the flashing angel earrings as only one worked -the assistant was a bit mystified when I said my earring didn't work. In case you want to know I have a third set too of Xmas trees

got the earrings exchanged -then one fell  apart during the dancing! did manage to rescue it and have mended it ready for the coming weekend when I have 3 dances. thank goodness all the classes finish after that so I can recover.
Our tree is now up too and has my handspun draped on it so it looks a bit snowy...but not as much as outside!! At least 6 inches but I think it has now stopped falling. Glad I don't have to worry about getting to work tomorrow although I should be going to see a friend but we have already agreed to decide at 8.00 am tomorrow. Stay safe everyone
