I'd just like to make a suggestion, and I know this sounds crazy...

I would like to suggest automatic numbering of applicants as they are received, to preserve some semblance of "order" that would probably mask the chaos of the game itself. I.e. the first male applicant is designated Boy #1, second would be Boy #2, and so on.

This is mainly to prevent people from choosing obscenely large and unique numbers (examples, Girl #666 or Boy #121). While I trust in the civility of most of our members, I feel letting people choose their own numbers would compromise our "professionality", as it were.

Sounds good to me.

I would actually prefer that to picking our own.

I don't really care either way, but it'll either be one or the other -- meaning we'll either assign them or you'll pick them, we won't be mixing it up or anything. Most people kept their numbers orderly in the first round anyway, there were just a few out-there numbers.

OMFG an admin hath double posted!11!11! You'll get over it.

Scratch what I said above. Here's a thought. How about you let us known on the app if you have a number preference, and we'll set the cap at, say, 80 on that -- and if you don't, we'll assign you the next available number. Sound cool?

Let me consult with my union and we'll get back to you on that.

...

...

(3 seconds, 2 coffees and a few dead scabs later)

Cap it is. And that cap is only to be breached in the event that we get more than said number of applicants, but custom numbers will still be limited.

That sounds like a good idea. It'll keep things under control too.

I figure 0-99 should be the cap.

That's just me though.

Well, did we have over a hundred per gender in the original SOTF?
Personally I don't mind either way, although stuff like boy no. 666 who happened to be a psycho or girl number 1337 is only amusing for about 4 seconds.

Which reminds me I really should get my characters in the pre-game *scuttles off*

Nah, we had 120 total, less than a hundred from each sex. The numbers were pretty uniform early on, with the exception of like... Boy 333 and Boy 871 and stuff. We had big holes toward the end. It'd jump from like Girl 43 to Girl 67.

As long as Ernest's Boy #13 I don't care. But yeah, a cap makes sense, after all, there's only about 30 in each gender IIRC in the Student Roster.

It's mainly just capping the choosable numbers. The staff is going to give you all the option of picking your own number or designating you the next open number. We just want to ensure that you don't pick a number like "666" or "1337", like Sephy said. There's no point in having such large numbers because odds are, the island isn't going to have 1000 students on it. It's more a nit-picky thing than anything else. It just looks really funny to have "Boy 1, Boy 2, Boy 3, Boy 4, Boy 5910398741".

Well heres what I got, we've 27 members, let's say everyone of those members makes five characters, that would place the cap at around 135.

Of course, this is assuming that everyone makes use of the 5 character per handler rule, which is most likely not going to happen.
