((Ivan Kuznetsov continued from Keep Yourself Alive))

When a bunch of announcements declaring the death of kids that he used to go to school with was getting boring, that's when Ivan realized that there was a problem.

Life was considerate enough to throw Ivan and Tabi a break following that tumultuous standoff with Imraan. They managed to have the entire day to themselves for travel, continuing their aimless journey across the island to an uncertain destiny wherever they would end up. They had to keep moving, though; for the second time in a row, that Danya psycho gleefully announced that the area they were trying to rest within was a danger zone. Along with that terrible announcement were the usual, frighteningly boring account of who had died and to whom, who was the latest and unfortunate person to be the best at being a monster, and more news about that stupid girl who was trying to get them all killed. None of it seemed to hold power against the sections that actually mattered to himself and Tabi: the Danger Zones. Just like terrorists to use the angle of fear from all sides... Ivan thought. Because no, all the nutcases around here trying to kill each other isn't bad enough. Even the island is trying to kill us. I'm pretty sure this isn't Australia.

The oft-serious Russian was so absorbed in traveling, periodically stopping and standing guard while they tried to determine where they were on the map, that he hadn't realized he had cracked a joke to himself until a few steps later. He allowed himself to smirk for a moment before returning his focus on his surroundings. Staying alive was the primary objective, but there was something to be said for the fact he and Tabi had been allowed to rest just long enough for him to smile again. Smiles were always so rare for him, especially at school, since he usually relied on a half-wit little brother to make him laugh and... honestly, half the time he just wanted to punch Louis in the face instead of laughing with him.

But what are little brothers for, Ivan?

Recurring memories of home gave way to the more recent, and far less comforting memories of Imraan Al-Hariq, staring the two of them down with that weapon. He could have shot them at any time, and Ivan wouldn't have stood a chance. But... that's right, he DID shoot. He shot, but he missed. What caused him to miss? Either Imraan was the worst shot ever (with a shotgun, no less), or maybe he was firing off a warning shot. Everything had happened too suddenly to finely process, and the next memory Ivan had was him kneeling on his muddy legs, the shotgun hoisted with one hand and in a position where firing it was liable to dislocate his shoulder, but he was in position to fire it nonetheless, which was all that should have concerned Imraan. Those final words of the basketball player continued playing over and over again in Ivan's mind, mingling with the stained image of Keith's face. Did Imraan have faith in the two of them, or was he begrudgingly letting his prey escape? No matter what the answer may have been, the uncertainty was terribly disturbing.

Ivan's eyes had half-shut to accomodate his thought processes as they walked along to nowhere in particular. To minimize discomfort, he had taken to having his daypack slung in a way so the bag was on his right side to support his grazed arm while the strap rested on his left shoulder, allowing him some stability without absolutely killing his right arm. The loaded Pancor Jackhammer remained the main decoration of his left hand, while his umbrella had been demoted to sitting in his daypack. The pack felt somewhat lighter... about half of his crackers were gone, and he had to refill his water cantine at least once with water from the river, which was sure to make him uncomfortable somewhere down the road. He hadn't changed his clothes since arriving on this damned island, and so he still had the few spatters of blood across his shirt from Keith. As some slight consolation, the bloodspots had dried, raising less of an alarm to those near him; at first glance, it might've even been mistaken as mud spots.

"... Look ahead," he muttered, motioning with his right hand for Tabi. It seemed that they were finally coming across the town-ish area that was depicted on the map (Ivan had to give them credit... whoever made this thing was quite the artist). Idly scratching at the skin of his neck just underneath the bottom of the collar, he led the way towards the town. At the very best of circumstances, they might find some place to rest and chance upon some food in the cupboards, if there were any (it was a nice hope). At the worst of circumstances, they could be stumbling upon a war zone. Either way was better than not knowing at all.

((SImon Telamon continued from Living In the Aftermath))

Great.

All Simon had done was take a leak and some water ... and adjust his left leg. When he finally caught up with the others, well, he must have taken a wrong turn somewhere, because he still couldn't find them.

Now, he was in what seemed like a normal cul-de-sac, if it hadn't been for the collars, and the recent announcements. Turned out there had been, in the space of a day, two attempts to get back at Danya. One was Ethan Kent, who took out a couple cameras somewhere and got his collar detonated for it, but the other one was shown by an announcement in the middle of the day ... seemed some girl had managed to mess with the collars enough ... enough to detonate other collars when she took out some of the cameras. On the one hand, it now meant that he now had no way of being safe. Even if he locked himself alone inside a house with a guaranteed escape route to a safe zone on the island, his collar could still be detonated at any moment. On the other hand, if she could do it once, she could do it again.

He leaned against one of the houses when he caught sight of something in the distance. He squinted to see two figures. They were approaching, but he couldn't make out anything of note. All that he knew was that it was two people. Simon went around the house he was at, blocking them from his view for a few seconds, going slightly towards them to get a better angle. He hid by the next house, quickly peering outside, taking note of what seemed to be ... something held by one of the two. He couldn't tell exactly what it was, but it didn't seem like a good something as he pulled himself back behind the building.

Just stay out of sight for now ...

((Tabitha "Tabi" Gweneth continued from Keep Yourself Alive))

Tabi Gweneth had been able to keep her smile from yesterday, despite still being on an island where she was certain to die. At first it left her confused. Wasn't it stupid to be smiling right now? She had nearly died multiple times, watched Keith die right in front of her. Yet here she was, alive and smiling.

Maybe it was because of what had happened in front of Imraan. Maybe it was the aftermath. The fact that Ivan was also smiling that made her glow. The Russian had been so quiet and reserved. The two of them had spoken to one another many times, but even so, the conversations they had were often short and went nowhere. Instead, there relationship was pricipally left to only silence. A silence that often left Tabi to feel so isolated and alone.

Not that she could really blame him. What would she be like if...if she had done what Ivan did? She had shuddered at that thought.

Tabi's thoughts didn't linger on that though, Ivan was smiling and that, surprisingly enough, was all she needed to see.

Ivan drew her attention to the distance. There seemed to be a small town in the distance. It had caught her off guard. The island she thought, was actually just that; an island. She didn't expect anything so substantial, but here it was. A full town, it wasn't anything extravagant, just rather quaint.

"Woah..." she said to nobody in particular.

Tabi walked closer to the nearby buildings. They were old, but they seemed sturdy, maybe they would be a safe place to stay. It was hard to believe that there was anything worse than what they had been.

She turned back to Ivan and walked towards him again. She found herself clutching her arm again and staring at her feet for a moment before looking up to Ivan.

"So...uh...are we going to go stay here you think? Or do you just want to get out of here?"

In any other environment, labeling Tabi's question as a little bit stupid would always be an option. After all, who in their right mind would pass up the opportunty to forage for food with the added bonus of weather-proof shelter? They could easily hole up here, maybe even using a few other buildings as a general 'home base', attempting to wait out most of the carnage of the game until it was all declared a danger zone. When that point came, then could be the time for moving onward.

This was not a typical environment, however. Survival of the Fittest was a cruel invention devised to bring out the worst in each and every one and, unfortunately, Ivan would have to match up to everybody else's cleverness if he wanted to survive to the next day. Tabi brought up a good point with the option to leave: unlike the woods, which were nice and open to allow escape but also sheltered, this area could very well leave them pinned. It invoked the image of a diver in a 'shark proof' cage, only for a shark to break through, with no hope of escape for the diver. As such, the duo was left with a few options to weigh.

Tabi seemed to waste no time in examining the building. Ivan stayed right on her heels as though an invisible leash connected the two; they had made it this far, he wasn't about to let a little bit of carelesness or separation get either one of them killed. When she had turned to ask him that question... if they should stay here or go, it caused him to go into all that deliberation. He had to give an answer, though... had to go with their best bet.

"Let's stay here. For now." He said in a subdued tone, scoping out one of the houses before them. "Stay behind me. Checking this place out." He creeped for the entrance of the worn residence, steadily turning the doorknob as to not alert anybody who might be inside. By storming in, there was a high chance of startling any possible residents if they weren't regularly hostile, but at this point in the game it seemed far more likely that at least one other student in the area might intend to kill them both. There was no room for error, no taking chances.

The knob turned all the way, and Ivan pushed it open, leading gun-first into the house. He was greeted with somewhat bare room, a living room of some sort, with a threadbare carpet and a couch that looked like it would've fit in just fine on that strange fake 70's sitcom Louis liked to watch so much. A deliberate and cautious trek around the room revealed a doorway to the kitchen, lit only by a window above the sink. After some inspection, he found a flight of stairs leading from the kitchen upward, likely to where the bathroom and bedroom (possibly more than one) were. A knot tightened in his throat when he realized that if there was somebody in this house, they'd be up there.

Pressing a finger to his lips for Tabi, Ivan stalked up to the base of the stairs, fixed his gaze upwards, aimed his gun, and eased his foot onto the first step. He had to just brush his shoe up against each step first... once he made contact, then he could rest all of his weight on that foot and begin to the next step. Then the next... now the fourth. His heart rhythmically pounded in his head with each step, made only worse each time he had to look down to check his feet instead of watching ahead to see if anybody knew he was coming. Almost there... a door straight ahead and a door on the right, both open. He's just get up there and...

CRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAKKKKKK

The step beneath his leading foot screamed in protest at his weight. If anybody was coming, they knew now, and if he didn't make it up those stairs in time, he was fucked. Panting from the nasty shock, Ivan shot up the rest of the stairs, his cradled shotgun hitting the wall or the railing a few times. He had to get up there first, had to get ready before they did, he-

"UGH!"

The penultimate step's overhang caught Ivan's toe, sending the boy's shin into the landing. Vaulting forward, his momentum did not stop until he was embarrasingly sprawled out onto the floor. The shotgun lay just out of reach of his fingertips from where it had been dropped, leaving the Russian to scramble for it, shooting leg pains in all.

His hand grasped the weapon and pulled it into range for his other arm to steady it, and Ivan looked to the right. The bathroom looked back, complete with sink, tub, and toilet that all might as well have been laughing at him. He looked forward, straining to see into the dimly lit room. An empty, unkempt bed, and bare walls. Nothing.

"... It's clear..." Ivan grumbled, his vigor completely deflated as he pulled himself upright and clutched the injured shin, his right one, with his hand. Always his right... at this rate, the left side of his body would have to pull all the work. It sure as hell wasn't Clio shooting him, but slamming his shin into something always hurt like a bitch.

"Really. Fuck stairs."

((Clio Gabriella continues from Out and In))

Oh.

Yes.

The least-stale piece of bread left in her bag was met by sharp incisors. One of her only pleasures, the last true one she could indulge in at this time, the simple act of eating and keeping her hands on a good piece of bread...yes, that was just ruined as well. Squinting, she saw that even it was speckled with dots of green and blue. It flew to the wayside, bouncing out of site behind a large tree, and Clio moved back to her position in the bushes.

She'd been there a while, doing something one would call "staking out the scene". She wasn't a scout, so she was rather unprepared for harshing the wilderness for so long. Even with her inconspicuous position, there was always the chance of someone taking out their anger on the wildlife in her vicinity, and then the island would be down half its Italian sluts.

What was she staking out? Competition. Every so often, people would leave the town down the path, or through the trees near her. It was only a matter of time before a straggler left. And then she'd pounce. If they were armed, then she wouldn't waste time. If they weren't, they would meet their end the hard way. She didn't have any testimonies to the contrary, so Clio assumed that a Sai to the gut was a painful way to go. They'd deserve it anyway, if they didn't have anything useful to give her, like another gun.

On the subject of food, she'd ignored the wine. No matter what impression Maxwell gave off when he gave it to her, there was nothing classy about drinking wine from a water bottle. What kind of girl did he take her for, anyway? Instead of touching that stuff, she'd gone through about 3 lukewarm bottles of water and resisted the primal urge to go for the tastier stuff.

She wasn't concerned about eating right now, but more about keeping her eye on her bit of town. If she could just get a weak straggler...

...hold on.

Clio moved away an overhanging full branch from her little area, and looked down the path heading to the group of houses. There were people there. That word and their direction drove her reason for not gunning them down. People. Not a person, but more than one. She couldn't take down a group of people, it'd backfire bad for her.

While the people moved closer, she held her head in the palm of her hand and sighed. This really wasn't such a good idea, especially since she hadn't seen anyone on their own all day. If she waited for the next few days, and ran out of energy before she could even bat her eyelashes, then what was honestly the point in wasting all this time?

However, as the people got closer, she mentally whited-out those words. The main reason behind this was because these two people had a certain quality to them now that she could see their faces.

They were some of the first ones who got away.

Ivan Kuznetsov. The tennis player she wounded on their first Day. According to the big man in the sky, he beat Keith Christoph to death and won a weapon for it. Her mind did a double take when the aforementioned weapon came out of the darkness in her conscience and placed itself in his hands. A giant shotgun, nothing she'd ever seen, or even had described to her.

Want.

And with her was the skater chick he "rescued" on the first day, Tabi. Tabi Gweneth or something. Now this was just too cute to interrupt. Had he been travelling around with her for the last few days, protecting her from all the big mean boys on the island? What a leech. She was gonna die, she didn't even kill anyone. She probably spent the whole time crying, shrieking, begging for Ivan to save her.

...well, this was just perfect, wasn't it? Unfinished business. Take out the ones who got away the first time.

They passed by, and Clio was ready. Silently, she followed parallel only just a bit behind them. All the way to town, she stayed out of the way. Not one word escaped the two of them, and as they ventured into the house, she was almost right behind them, dropping her bag, Ji, and Sai at the door, and shoved her Walther PPK's box of ammo into the back of her skirtline. The momentary exploration of the house was merely absent of their unknowing predator, who took the moment to pull her two guns from her bag. She always told herself to avoid wielding akimbo, the risk of one being stolen and used against her too great for such an occasion, but honestly, it was just insurance. If there wasn't too much ammo left in the Korth, going in with 3 bullets between 2 people was a blatant suicide attempt.

By the doorway of the room adjacent to the stairway, she hid. It was only for a fleeting moment though, as when the creak echoed throughout the house, her hands were now clenched to her guns, and when the pounding steps bang, bang, banged against the floor, she slowly crept up behind the skater chick and pressed each barrel to each temple.

Oh, and to really nail the danger home?

She pulled back both hammers.

Cliiiick.

A harsh and taunting whisper erupted from Clio's throat as the girl stood there, in more possible danger than anyone else on the island.

"I wouldn't say anything, honey," Clio sneered "Oh, and keep your panties dry this time, I don't wanna kill your new best friend covered in piss."

Simon watched, relieved, as the pair walked into a house ahead of him, having not noticed him. He breathed a sigh of relief as he pulled back, wiping the sweat from his brow before peering out momentarily to see ...

Oh, shit. They were being followed. Okay. It wasn't just that. It was the person following them. Clio. She turned into the same house after pulling out two guns. Simon pulled back again, cursing the chain of events in motion. Had this been any other psycho killer with five acknowledged kills, Simon would have run like hell. Of course, things get slightly fuzzy given that Simon had been dating said psycho killer.

On the one hand, he could leave right now. He'd be safe, but it would leave the question of what happened to Clio and the pair inside. On the other hand, if he intervened, he put himself in danger, he could cleverly stop anything from going wrong ... or he could die having accomplished nothing. It swung either way. Live like a wimp, or risk death in battle. It was times like this when he envied the simple computer. Able to do whatever it was told, and it never worried about moral dilemmas. Yes/no, stay/go, decision made. Next one, please. So, Simon agonized for what was a good five minutes ... to him. In reality, it had taken about two seconds, but sometimes, stress makes time run slower.

If I die here, well, here's hoping I die I hero, or better yet, don't die. He walked up to the door of the house, and slowly pushed the door open a creak, and ...

Click.

So, die like a hero huh? ... Simon pulled himself back, decided to bravely ...

Fuck it. ... walk away as quietly as possible, stepping away from the door he was about to enter through. I'll live as a wimp.

Tabi Gweneth found it wierd standing in the house. It was by all acounts, undesturbed, and her thoughts turned back to home. She was standing in a place that was similiar to her own home. She stepped into the kitchen and found her self gazing at the cherry stained wood floors, the cabinets of a similar stain, and the polished countertops. It was like whoever was here had never left. The thought of people living here caused her to shudder at the thought of what happened to them.

Tabi didn't want to know the answer.

She heard the loud thunk from the stairs and turned to the sound. Ivan said that it was clear and it caused the young girl sighed in relief.

"All right, just be careful Ivan," she called out.

Now that she was alone, Tabi took to staring out the lone window in the kitchen. There wasn't much for her to see out there. She found herself just staring out at yet another building. Her thoughts lingered back to home and to how her mom and dad were handling this.

Her mom was probably forced to write about this for the newspaper. How her daughter was forced to try and kill people. How she had nearly died so many times. And how her father, who was already in a stressful job, she just hoped that they were doing okay.

She tried to shake her head to stop herself from crying, but to no avail. She lifted her arms up to whipe her face, but something stopped her.

Tabi felt two metal objects pointing at her temples. She gasped, opening her mouth to speak but the sounds of the clicks caused her to freeze. She had a pair of guns pressed against her head.

And then the wielder spoke...

Tabi let out another gasp. There was only two people that knew about her soiling herself. One of them was Ivan. The other...

"C-C-C-Clio..." she wimpered.

Her body began to shake again, causing the barrels on her pistols to tap against her skull. Her cheeks became damp with her tears. She was trying her hardest to keep silent, but the occasional sob escaped her lips.

It had happened again, she had been ambushed by someone and she was alone again. She couldn't call for Ivan now, she would be dead. It may not even matter if she spoke, she may not have much time to live anyways.

She was hoping her mom and dad weren't watching now...

Ivan looked around the top floor some more, though all he had to do was pivot on his heels. From that one spot, he could see down the stairs, in the bathroom, and into the bedroom. Definitely a simple abode, but there would only be two people staying inside. There was more than enough room for just him and Tabi.

While the bathroom seemed to have nothing of much interest or requiring investigation (it was just a bathroom, after all), Ivan took a few steps away from the stairs to enter the doorway into the bedroom. He went to flick on the light, but nothing came on. "Power's out..." He grumbled to himself, though he wasn't completely sure. Maybe the power was out, or maybe the light bulb was just burnt out. There was only one way to tell, and he couldn't do it from here.

Losing interest in the upstairs for now and having deemed it safe, Ivan headed for the stairs when he heard some mumbling. The voice was hard to make it except for the fact it was female... but then again, to the best of his knowledge, so was Tabi (she certainly looked like a girl in those wet clothes of hers). Still, something wasn't right about it. As though he were familiar with the voice, but it wasn't the girl who he'd been spending all of his time with.

"Tabi?"

There was no answer.

"Tabi! Is there somebody down there!?" Ivan lifted the shotgun and braced it with his right hand. The graze on his arm still wasn't looking to be in the best of shape, and it stung in disapproval of his actions. He had long gotten used to the wound, though... there was more than enough time to worry about it later. For now, he had to make sure Tabi wasn't in trouble. Again.

I can't leave that damn girl alone for ONE second, or else-

As Ivan covered his exit from the stairs, he was faced with a sight that confirmed his fears. There was Tabi, two guns pressed to her head. Those guns were held by the hands of a girl who had some history with them both. A girl who, as far as Ivan was concerned, could hang from her toenails until they fell right out of their sockets for what she did. There was Clio Gabriella, Tabi's life at her mercy.

"You... damn you..." Ivan muttered in disbelief, anger, frustration... a confusing swirl of emotions bubbled up as he was confronted with his nightmare from day one. The shotgun in his hands was at the ready, but for what? Clio had Ivan exactly where she wanted him. She had two guns, one of which she could keep pointed at Tabi, and one which she could point right at him. If he tried to shoot her, there was a good chance he'd catch Tabi in the blast.

"Leave her out of this..." Ivan spoke lowly, his weapon unwavering. "You want revenge? Take it from me." He was shaking by now; he was never one to make speeches, but he had to keep talking, to make Clio do what he wanted or it was over for them both. "I heard about you, Clio, killing all those people. I killed somebody too, and I'm sure you know that. There's a difference between us, though. I'm not like you... I'm not a monster. So show me how tough you are, Clio. Put... put those guns down, and take me on like a real killer."

He held his breath, tensing up. Would she buy it?

"Yeees, it's been while, hasn't it? I've missed you two so much," Clio whispered. Tabi couldn't see it, but Clio was smiling. She was right, wasn't she, huh? This girl was pathetic. What was the Russian brute still doing with her? Did he just need someone to protect? A blithering, sobbing ball to clean up after every time she soiled her underwear?

"Now, let's just wait until your friend comes back, okay? I might ask you, do you want to die first, or would you like to see him die? Cause you're both gonna die here, but I might give you a little liberty when it happens. That's pretty nice of me, isn't it?" Clio paused. A brief moment later, she pushed each gun harder on reflex as she saw Ivan.

"Hello Ivan. You should probably get your friend here a guard dog or something, this was way too easy," Clio said, keeping her eyes trained on both Ivan and the large shotgun in his hands.

She let him have his little frustrated speech, since he deserved that much. Some last words wouldn't go astray too. But as he finished, something about "a real killer" she couldn't help but giggle.

"Ivan, you misread me. I'm not here for revenge, do you think I'm that petty? I couldn't give a fuck what you did to me four days ago, I'm just here to finish something that I started. I don't care about anything you just said. I'm not a monster, I'm just someone who wants to get home, and to do that-"

With that, Clio's foot jammed itself into the back of Tabi's knee, and forced her to the ground.

"-I need to remove each-"

The back of her hand pushed Tabi roughly to the side, onto the tile floor..

"-and every-"

Her recently reloaded Walther PPK aimed at Ivan.

"-one of you."

She didn't even get a bullet out before Ivan sprinted away, back up the stairs. She tried to aim and fire, but despite how slow he was, he was quickly out of sight. Clio was quick to follow him, even though her shoes weren't exactly made for running. She watched his figure dash away across the second floor, and Clio teared her way up the staircase.

"Give up, Ivan, you can't get the ju-"

Of course, Clio wasn't thinking straight. She forgot to take in her inability to see Ivan once he reached the next floor. She didn't think to be quiet in her ascent. She didn't even shut up, she kept on rambling like she was a Shakespearean character announcing his/her actions through soliloquy.

And Ivan got the jump on her.

She wasn't sure whether it was his arm or his gun that whacked her across the face, but granted how powerful his physique was, it wouldn't have made a clear difference. Clio stopped in her tracks, like a deer in the headlights, before the pain walloped down on her.

This all happened in a split second as she started to fall backwards.

Her eyes lit up as she realised what was about to happen. If this was how she died, if this was the end of Clio Gabriella, one of the top killers on the island, then it would suck, putting it lightly. Breaking her neck wasn't the way that anyone wanted to go, especially after taking a fall of all things. Clio reflexively grabbed out in front of her, trying to grasp onto something, the banister, the low roof, one of the empty frames on the wall.

Instead, she grabbed onto Ivan.

No, Clio hadn't quite bought it. She gave her retorts, readied her weapon, and the moment Tabi hit the floor, he knew what was in store for him. Those guns were out faster than he coud fire his, leaving him to flee up the stairs. His blood pumped and his brain felt like it was going to burst from the tension building up inside him. He may have just doomed Tabi, or he had made the only correct move in this demented game of cat-and-mouse.

His tactical retreat (read: run the fuck away) had the intended effect, fortunately. He didn't hear a gunshot, so chances were that Tabi was still alive. He could hear Clio dashing after him, almost as though she were hot on his heels and ready to cave his head in with those guns of hers. He just had to make it to the top... get right to the top, and get to somewhere that he had the advantage.

Hopping over that tricky final step, Ivan pulled himself into the bathroom, panting. It would've been bad if Clio really was on his heels, but the few seconds he had to stand there, leaning against the wall and just preparing for the moments to come... that was murderous. Clio was coming up those steps, and she was still talking. Whatever she was saying, though, he paid no mind to... all he knew was that he had to act... stop thinking, act! ACT!

Here she comes... come on, COME ON!

It sounded like Clio was practically on top of him, ready to come through the other side of the bathroom wall. Ivan let loose a scream of nearly primal quality, running through the bathroom door shotgun-first. He should've shot, should've ended it, but Clio was practically right there in his face on the landing of the stairs. He panicked... panicked like a damn animal, and swung the shotgun at Clio. Her face, her neck, who the fuck cared as long as he clocked her with it. He felt the weapon connect, Clio reeled... he had won. He'd finally put the bitch away, and get it over with. Clio leaned back, ready to tumble... then grabbed Ivan's arm.

What!? No... no, fuck, let go!

It was all so sudden. Ivan would've pulled back, gotten them split up, but now he was leaning forward. His heart pumped faster, his body kicking into overdrive. He had to do something or his day was about to get very bad, VERY quickly. Unfortunately, that bit of instinct told him to push Clio forward.

FUCK... FUCK... FUUUUUUUCK!!!

It felt like slow motion as the two fell towards the stairs, ready for the fall of their lives.

...
...
... Oh boy.

Ivan collasped on top of Clio and braced for impact. She cushioned the first impact of the fall, only to flip over her and take the brunt force of the second. The two became a writhing, flailing mass of arms, legs, and bruises as they bounced down the stairs. Somewhere along the way, the Jackhammer had become dislodged from Ivan's hand, but that was the least of his worries when hardwood stairs repeatedly pounded him in the head, knees, and who knows where else.

With an anti-climatic thud and clatter, the two ex-highschoolers sprawled out at the bottom of the steps. Ivan's face was now glasses-free... now he was missing his weapon AND his eyes were lost somewhere on the steps, or down below, or up the devil's asscrack, it didn't matter. What mattered was that they were not on his face.

No... what really mattered was that he got up before Clio. Maybe she still had her gun, maybe he could wrestle it from her and finish the job. Tabi likely wouldn't want anybody killed, but fuck that shit! The rage had come back to Ivan... the redness that encompassed him when he killed Keith. It was turning him into a monster once more, but if that's what he needed to kill Clio, he'd gladly take it. He'd take all of her cruelty, all of her pathetic and petty reasons for existing, and he'd fucking kill her with them.

He just had to be the first one standing.

((Ugh, I'm sorry this took so long))

Fuck, FUCK, FUCK, FUCK, FUCK.

Clio didn't know exactly where she was hurt, because frankly every twanging nerve was getting punted in the gut by a metal rod. Falling down the stairs...not good. Loosing both of her guns (she could hear them clatter away with Ivan's own shotgun)...not good. Loosing her ammo box of all things as well...not good! And all of this hit her the moment she cleared the landing.

For the next few seconds, all that surrounded her in the time it took to come to her damn senses was just a collection of motions and colours. Were she in some sort of cartoon, there would be little Tweety birds asking her a top of the morning. Every damn second. Just as she found out she wasn't falling, she could feel every little bump, every step that jammed into her skin come back tenfold. She wasn't sure how beefed up Ivan was, but she knew she's taken the brute of the fall.

She felt her skin drag against the floor, and her body came to a stop. Her head rested against the edge of the wall, hair shattered around her face like a bead curtain. The body screamed 'enough', but the mind pushed her into 'continue'. Clio's eyes darted to only a few paces away, and saw the lumbering body of the Russian who had dared to resist her will push against its own will.

She tried her best to get up as well, but her nerves screamed. Clio's fingers met the hard wooden floor, and the moment her body weight was put on it, she collapsed back onto the floor, gasping for breath. But she couldn't stay down like this. If she stayed down, she would die. Everything he'd put her through, he wouldn't brush it off that easily. There was no way he was taking her life.

Clio grabbed the corner of the wall, or at least attempted to. With the pain trying to keep her down, it wasn't easy standing up. And she didn't even get to that, she just used the de-evolution into bestial mentality as her base when she launched herself from the ground to tackle the larger Russian boy and knock him against the wall.

The moment he fell under her unexpected attack, she tried her best to deal as much damage as she could to the short Russian tennis player. She balled her fists, and launched punch after punch at his face and neck, anywhere she knew it would hurt.

Even though she wasn't that strong, she still had keep him down before she finally killed him. Tabi would fall much easier. And then, she had a two-of-a-kind shotgun in her hands that would make the task of removing anyone else she found the simple task of point and shoot.

He barely even had time to get to his feet and straighten his back before Clio resumed her assault. Her shoulder drove right into his stomach, sending both of the children crashing to the floor. Ivan tried to sit up, to push her off, to do something, but both of his arms were pinned between the two of them and out of position to defend against the vicious attacks being delivered to him. Each of Clio's fists struck him over and over again, while he himself was basically defenseless. Still reeling from the dizzying fall and shocked from the relentless attack that followed, Ivan could only turn his face and squint his eyes shut, bracing for each strike as it landed.

He wasn't sure how much pain all of this was causing or how much damage it was doing to his body, because all that mattered was the fight. Somewhere, mixed in with the torn skin and battered flesh, a certain feeling had mixed in seamlessly between the two. His hatred for what Clio had done kept it away at first, but now Ivan was beginning to realize that Clio was telling the truth. This wasn't direct malice or some strange vendetta that a girl was carrying from school. One animal in the world was merely trying to survive by doing what was asked of her, and that was killing another.

That's all either of them were by this point: animals. None of the revelations or actions were driven by thought and by the brain moreso than they were by instinct and the heart. It wasn't like he had time to conciously think about Clio's reasons for doing what she was doing while being punched in the face; this was just something that Ivan felt, something that he just knew. What he also knew, though, was that he was not ready and willing to give up to what this girl wanted.

Not yet. It wasn't ending like this.

After an uncounted number of Clio's wild swings found their mark, Ivan finally managed to finish tucking in his arms and put his hands on Clio's chest, pushing against her. Strain as he might, it was only enough to push her upwards at first, maybe soften the blows. Just meant he had to push harder... to fight for what Clio clearly wasn't going to just give up. After a pained breath to prime himself, Ivan's right leg swung up to try and kick the girl sitting over him. The angle meant little to no force was behind it, but it nudged her to the side, and it nudged her just far enough for Ivan's arms to finish the job.

Yelling as he heaved Clio off of his body, Ivan rolled and began crawling along the floor, trying to grab the shotgun that teased him just a yard or so away from his grasping fingers.

Tabi Gweneth felt her knees buckle sharply as Clio clicked them in. She let out a yelp as the killer tossed her to the floor. She landed hard onto the tile floor and she didn't move from that spot.

The world that Tabi was in started to spin around her. She could hear the sounds of a scuffle and she wiggled her body in an attempt to see what was going on, but she found herself struggling to do so. After several attempts, she tried another tactic. She rolled herself onto her belly and used her hands to push herself up.

Her arms were shaking with fear as she held her body up. The world was starting to spin, but it was starting to slow down finally. She blinked and tried to shake off whatever was ailing her.

There was a loud crash and her head turned over to the sound. There were two people grappling on the ground but her blured vision could not make out who they were. She stared at the two of them for a while before the identities clicked into her brain.

The one on the top was Clio Gabriella, she was a killer. She had almost killed her before. It was the person on the bottom, the person being punched repeatedly, that had saved her life. Ivan Kuznetsov.

Ivan's face was bleeding. Tabi had seen this scene before. Only it was Ivan who was on top. Keith Christoph...he was on the bottom. He didn't survive the onslaught...

Tabi had not noticed that she had stopped crying. The tears had all dried up. She had to stop this from happening, she had to get involved just like she had done to stop Imraan from shooting Ivan. But Clio was not Imraan.

She got off of her knees and slowly wobbled up to her feet. Her body wavered back and forth and after standing up, Tabi found herself falling onto her butt. Raising her hand to her head and blinked at the sudden ineptitude. Her head was screaming at her trying to keep her rooted to the spot.

Going back to her hands and knees, Tabi pressed on though, she had to stop this. She had to stop this from happening...

Every punch just seemed to get weaker and weaker, until it registered with Clio that she wasn't making contact. Before she knew it, Ivan had thrown a weak kick at her side. Nothing much. What she didn't realise, however, is that it gave him leverage.

Her body fell to the side, clattering soundly off the wall. A particular point in her back, one that took it bad when falling down the stairs, jammed into the skirting board of the wall.

She let out a pained yell as her injuries fought against her mind, their screams echoed. She couldn't, nay, she wouldn't pay attention to them when someone had to die.

The Russian crawled across the ground, towards his gun. Clio didn't waste time here, since she saw an inadmissible threat to her wellbeing, and given her experiences, that was saying something. She couldn't just ignore the pain, but Clio tried to, stumbling over to the crawling figure on her weak legs and tackling him once more.

As the two went flying over the gun which Ivan so desperately wanted, Clio felt herself collide with the floor again, and the echoing return. The Russian was struggling, just wanting to get that gun, but Clio wasn't about to let that happen, not while she still had purple in her hair. Her arm worked its way around his neck, tightening. There was no way, no way in hell she could kill him this way, she wasn't that strong, no way. There had to be something else.

Her foot nudged itself against the dormant Jackhammer on the ground, as she tried her best to grab onto Ivan.

Without her even realising it, her foot jerked upwards.

Adrenaline does amazing things to the human body. Whether it's people who've been able to lift cars, or make fools of the laws of physics, it works its magic whenever it needs to. Somehow, Clio's foot snagged under the shotgun, and at that moment, her foot was aiming towards the door. So when she flicked it, it went flying momentarily in the air, but instead of landing and clattering...it hit the floor on its end, and started towards the doorway of the house.

She saw the shotgun hit earth the second time, and she took that risk. She pushed Ivan towards the opposite direction, and did her best to run, past everything that was happening, and towards that fucking gun.

Every step twang of pain, but before she could get her hands on it, it went out the door, down the steps to the street. The girl smiled. Perfect opportunity here.

Clio grabbed the door, and slammed it shut. Without a moment to lose, she sprinted forward towards the stationary Jackhammer, and wheeled around with it in her hands as the door opened.

And there it was.

The perfect opportunity.

Ivan stood there, hands in the air.

Completely

at her mercy.

"Well," Clio started, her grip tightening on the gun in her hands, keeping it well aimed at Ivan's head "That was fun, wasn't it? I especially like the bit where you thought you could get away with everything you've done to me, Ivan, that was really the highlight."

She strode forward, and with one swift motion, her expensive sandal making another groin her bitch, and bringing him to his knees.

"But now it's over. You've lost. Once I'm done with you, Tabi's gonna be a piece of cake. I mean, I don't even think anyone else would bother with killing such a pathetic, whimpering, waste of a girl. Why did you even bother with her anyway? You could have just of easily found someone who wasn't so worthless."

Clio held the gun up to her chest, and placed the barrel at Ivan's head.

"Oh well. At least she'll be in great hands with me. I'll give her your regards."

So close... he had been SO close to ending the nightmare. There was no victory to be found anywhere on this island, but a false taste of the elusive concept had been inches away from his fingertips multiple times. Instead, the Jackhammer had fallen into the eager hands of Clio and, with it, any chances Ivan had of living to see the next sunset.

The pain that shot up from his crotch through to his stomach, festering in the pit of it, was acute and... to be flat out, it sucked. It was nothing, though. Absolutely nothing compared to the feeling his heart became pressed under when he realized this was it. Clio had won, Ivan had lost, and his failure meant that he was to be executed on his damn knees like a dog. Not even a day ago, he had been at the mercy of Imraan before finally coming to terms with him. Some force was necessary, but everybody walked away from the situation. That was what mattered... he survived, Tabi survived, and even Imraan survived, leaving everybody free from the guilt that each of them had been sure to bathe themselves in. Well, except Tabi.

Or did she have some guilt? Maybe for relying on Ivan so much? The boy kept his head down, squinting in pain and staring at Clio's feet as she tauntingly asked why he had associated himself with a girl like Tabi. All the things she said were fairly true... Tabi had been fundamentally useless from day one. He had been shot once protecting her, she weighed him down with emotional baggage after he killed Keith, and thanks in no small part to her, he had been reduced to a complete wreck at least once, so why the hell did he travel with her in the first place? Why the fuck did he even keep her around after she had shown herself to be nothing but a load?

I really don't know why, but... looking back... I'd do it all over again.

He would not dignify Clio with a response. No tears came, even if there should be plenty to cry about. Not about dying... shit, the way things were going, that didn't seem so bad, but in his falling, he had brought Tabi down with him. Furthermore, he never did get to say his full goodbye to Louis, and there was no sense in asking Clio to allow him to do so. She wouldn't give him the chance to possibly get back up and attack her, stealing away her victory. So, the only thing Ivan could do was stay on his knees like the defeated boy he was, staring at the girl's feet.

Goodnight, Ivan..
