((Rosa continued from Eating Out (Cleanly)))

Rosa Fiametta was drunk, and she knew it.

Whether she cared or not was an altogether different matter.

She didn't often come to the Varsity, and it was even less frequently that she deliberately set out to avoid the dreaded blue stamp. If Rosa wanted a drink, she rarely found it a particularly good idea to try and skirt the law closely whilst doing so. There was usually some available at whichever party, and in that case, you were far less likely to get caught.

Today though, there had been no parties (that she knew of, anyway), and Rosa had found herself rather bored. She hadn't really felt like hanging around with Ilario, who wasn't exactly the life and soul of the party at the best of times. Frankie wasn't in the house at all, so Rosa had to assume her sister was out getting stoned somewhere - with Frankie, that was always a reasonable bet. Junior had also gone out to do something or other (not that Rosa wanted to spend time with her father), and the only other person in the house was her stepmother. No chance.

Since there hadn't been anybody in particular available to make arrangements with, Rosa had decided that she could make a pretty good job of having a good time all by herself. She had spent a little 'personal time' in her room, but it wasn't close to something that could occupy her for a whole evening - much as she enjoyed it. Anyway... it took two to tango. So eventually, Rosa had gone out, not telling anybody where she was going, or heck, even that she'd left. Her family were used to it by now, Rosa just pretty much came and went as she felt like it.

Getting into the Varsity was easy, avoiding the stamp was a little harder. However, Rosa did have a fake ID for that kind of thing, although she didn't like using it a great deal. Still, Rosa's looks made her seem a bit older than she actually was, so it didn't tend to get looked into too closely.

With a fair bit of cash on her (the bonus, she supposed, of having a rich father), Rosa had been steadily drinking for three hours, and was beginning to become somewhat inebriated. But she didn't care. That was the entire point. All in all, it wasn't a particularly bad evening, although meeting a good looking guy (or girl) could have made it better.

At that point, Rosa was sitting at the bar itself, on one of the stools. The tender had been keeping an eye on her for a while now (probably to gague whether Rosa had had 'enough' yet), but Rosa hadn't really noticed. There weren't too many people around, unfortunately, but she was holding out hope that somebody would turn up. Well, a good somebody, not a 'JJ Sturn' somebody.

Come on. Can a girl have a bit of luck?

((Continued from Storm In A Teacup))

Nine Duce off suit...Who the hell calls an all in raise pre flop calls with nine freaking duce!

Morgan was still raging over the fact that some idiot cost him a spot in the money by beating his pocket aces. The fact that his tea stock was low didn't help matters one bit. How was he supposed to calm down without some tea?

His dad suggested a long walk to clear his head. It did make at least some semblance of sense, maybe take a stop at The Varsity, get a burger, chill out a bit and then give it another shot.

It took him about ten to fifteen minutes to reach the sports bar. Surprisingly, it didn't sound too busy outside, usually there's a Minnesota Wild or Timberwolves game on, then again they hadn't been good in ages. He didn't follow sports religiously, paying attention only during the playoffs, but nobody was talking about the 'T-Wolves' so he had a feeling that they were lackluster again this year.

He stepped inside and too his blue stamp. Sure enough, the Timberwolves were on and loosing badly. He took a seat near the bar and casually glanced at the televisions while perusing the menu.

Rosa glanced around as she heard the door open, wondering (of course), whether or not it was somebody she knew. More importantly, whether or not it was somebody she liked. After a couple of seconds, Rosa figured that it was yes to column A, but no to column B. It wasn't that she disliked Morgan Leftowitz, just that she didn't know him better than recognising his face. He was, after all, in Rosa's grade at Bayview.

She offered him a lazy wave, not really caring if Morgan actually saw it. Rosa, in truth, was pretty apathetic towards the guy, so his appearance wasn't exactly cause for great excitement. Not actually who she had had in mind when she had hoped for 'somebody good'. All the same, at least Morgan's arrival had broken the monotony, if only briefly.

Wait... shit. What if he sees me drinking? I don't know what the guy is like, but he could be one of those strait-laced tightasses... doesn't he go around drinking coffee or something? Fuck. He'd better not say a thing.

Rosa nudged her drink slightly to one side, putting her body between it and where Morgan had gone to sit. She wasn't entirely aware that it would be pretty easy for any close observer to tell that she'd been drinking. Just because Rosa knew she was a bit drunk didn't mean she was some kind of expert at covering it up.

She shifted back and forth in her seat for a few moments and sighed... things were shaping up to be alright, but unspectacular, a shame, really.

So long as Leftowitz doesn't get his underwear in a twist, that is...

Morgan caught a wave from the corner of his peripheral vision and turned to see Rosa Fiametta at a bar stool. He acknowledged her, giving her a slight nod and turned back to his menu. He knew Rosa, in a matter of speaking, but then again, who didn't know the Fiametta's? They weren't exactly unpopular in school and were even well known to him.

When the waitress came to take his order he felt like he was being watched. When she left his vision he took a casual gaze around the bar and saw Rosa still leaning against the bar. For some reason she was making an effort to push her drink behind her back, as if she had something to hide.

It was then that he saw her hands. He noticed that there was no blue star on the back of her hands. It didn't really take a brain surgeon to put two and two together after the fact. She was drinking some sort of alcoholic beverage.

He wasn't particularly impressed by her sneak job, but wasn't entirely surprised by it. She had a reputation as a partier and a drinker at school very similar to Jen's, though not as well documented. The fact that she was still staring at him was more than a little disconcerting to him and he wished to end it quickly, perhaps acknowledging her might help.

"Can I help you?" he said, blinking momentarily.

"Wha-? Uh... no, it's nothing."

Had she really been staring? It hadn't felt like it. Maybe Rosa had spent a bit too long looking at Morgan and thinking those threatening things about him in the hopes that he wouldn't suddenly decide to turn her in. ... Yeah, it didn't make very much sense, but she wasn't exactly at 100% thinking capacity at that moment.

"So... what brings you up here?" Not the best way to strike up a conversation, admittedly, but Morgan would probably think she was off her face if she didn't actually say anything. Either that, or some kind of creepy stalker. Rosa could be a bit clingy, but that would just be weird. Especially because the person in question was Leftowitz. He wasn't ugly or anything, but he certainly wasn't Rosa's dream man.

Thinking more about the guy, wasn't he friends with Jennifer Romita? Not exactly one of Rosa's favourite people. was Jen, mostly because the other girl tended to get Rosa tarred with a similar brush. They both slept around, yeah, but for different reasons, all the same, Rosa was usually lumped in the 'slut' group, along with Jennifer... which Rosa saw as unfair, but not perhaps unjustified.

Can't expect everyone to know the reasons, after all. People need to think a bit before making their fucking minds up like that.

Morgan was unable to come with an immediate answer.

"Well..." he said, staring up at the dim florescent lights, "I just needed a good de-stresser I guess. Stupid things online an what-not."

The waitress brought him a teapot and a tiny bag of Tetley tea. He thanked her quietly and put the tea into the pot. A small frown upon his face. He was never a fan of any of the bagged teas that came in a box, they just never had the same kick that the imports did, but he couldn't really complain to loudly, it was tea after all.

"You seem to be distressing too huh?" he said, putting the bag into his cup and pouring the contents of the teapot into it, "Alcohol your drink of choice I see."

He blew off a layer of steam off of his cup and turned to face her. It wasn't worth the effort ignoring the obvious drinking she was partaking in. Not that he would say anything to the establishment, he disliked it, but there was no point in whistle blowing, hell he barely qualified the age to just gamble online why should he deny someone else's love of liquor.

Online? What on earth could Leftowitz have been doing? All sorts of amusing, albeit ridiculous images sprung up in Rosa's slightly befuddled mind, and a lopsided smile made its way to her face. Still, she just about suppressed the giggle that almost followed. That would just make her seem even more drunk than she already was.

"Actually... I was bored, and I didn't have anybody better to do."

De-stressing? There were much better ways to do that than drinking, and less destructive besides, although Rosa knew as well as anyone that most caused your reputation to take quite a hit. Still, she'd rather be known as promiscuous than an alcoholic or stoner... like dear Frankie.

What was Leftowitz drinking anyway? It looked like... tea. That was a bit weird, but different strokes for different folks. It was healthier, she supposed, than getting drunk, but all the same... tea? Honestly, Rosa half-expected Morgan to start 'Toodle-pip' and 'Cheerio'-ing all over the shot.

Since Morgan had clearly spotted what she was drinking, Rosa decided that there would be no loss in getting the glass out again and have a mouthful. It didn't look like he was about to rat her out, so Rosa guessed it wouldn't be much of a problem.

Come ON. I don't want to be stuck with Morgan-fucking-Leftowitz all evening...

Morgan was in mid-sip when Rosa spoke and struggled to down the brew. The combination of the tea's bland, unsatisfying flavor and her bluntness caught him by surprise. He put a hand to his mouth and began to cough rapidly, before getting a small rush of air to fill his lungs.

He coughed twice more nervously and forced a nervous chuckle, "You don't say?"

It wasn't something that Morgan hadn't heard before. In fact, he was the guy Jen went to for after sex stories, but Jen at least brought them up slowly instead of just going for the gusto. Then again maybe her impairment had made her a little loose lipped so perhaps it wasn't a surprise.

Oh that's right...Jen's probably on her date right now...

His thoughts turned back as to what his friend was doing. He had hoped that she was having a good time, wherever she was. He just wished that he was the one sharing company with her, but yet again he never had the courage when he needed it.

It was with great joy that Morgan saw his burger coming towards him. The discussion was starting to get a little awkward and lingering on what his childhood friend was doing wasn't helping either. Reserving himself to his burger sounded like a very good idea at this point.

Rosa was naturally a pretty flirty person, so the 'anybody to do' statement wasn't exactly out of character for her. All the same, it was definitely the alcohol which caused her to speak in such a way to Morgan. It was nothing personal - he just wasn't somebody she knew very well. If Rosa hadn't been a little drunk... well, she probably wouldn't have acted in the same way. Joys of drink huh?

"So... uh, you come here often? I can't see this being that good of a tea room," What the hell, she was bored, and Leftowitz was at least a person she didn't have to introduce herself too. There were worse things to do than strike up a conversation, right? Things didn't have to be 24/7 about romance after all.

Still, it was more interesting when they were...

With Leftowitz distracted by the arrival of his food, Rosa drained the last quarter or so of her drink, then waved to the barman with a smile. Once again, she missed the slightly concerned look he gave her, but ... well, she wasn't falling out of her seat or anything, was she? So long as things didn't get too over the top, and the money kept coming, right?

Is this place usually this empty on a Saturday night? Surprised this place is still in business if it gets so few customers...

Morgan acknowledged the waitress and waited for her to leave before grabbing the pepper shaker and pouring sparse amounts on his french fries.

He was still surprised that Rosa was still just chatting away at him. It was unusual for many people to talk to Morgan, and when they did it was a struggle to talk back. He was by no means a master of the random conversation and yet, he seemed to have been roped into one by a drunken classmate.

He shook his head, "No, it most certainly is not a quality tea house, I can give you that. The good ones are all downtown, imported teas, none of the crappy bagged stuff. Catching a bus is a pain in the ass at night though. So I just decided to catch a quick bite and a cup o' tea while I was at it."

Morgan was surprised that he was being so open to Rosa. He was pretty sure she didn't know him and he definitely was sure that he didn't know her well enough to talk about his life so loosely. Still, it was better than raging over dumb poker players and worrying over dear friends. Maybe it was worth his while to gab away for a bit.

"So what about you? Are you a regular then?"

((Jennifer Perez continued from A Walk to Forget))

Jennifer had made pretty good time on her way to The Varsity. She got her hand stamped by the bouncer at the door. Jennifer was in the mood to forget her problems, but alcohol would probably just create a slew of new ones. Besides, she didn't think she'd be able to sneak in anyways. Jennifer had only been to a bar to drink alcohol once, when a group of her junior friends had convinced her to go. Jennifer hadn't wanted to be a spoilsport, so she had tagged along, though she hadn't had as much fun as they had seemed to.

Jennifer just wanted to get a bite to eat, and lose herself among the people. As she walked inside, though, she saw that the bar was relatively empty.

Fuck. I can't just turn around now. That would be really rude.

Then, Jennifer saw some familiar faces, and her spirits rose. Sitting at the bar was Rosa Fiametta. Jennifer didn't know the girl personally, but she had quite a reputation. Not a good one, either, but Jennifer didn't really care. She knew that lots of people didn't deserve the bad things people said about them.

Near the bar was a boy, Morgan, who had some weird last name that Jennifer couldn't remember. She couldn't exactly place why she knew his name; maybe they had shared a class at some point, or a friend had said something about him, or something like that.

Jennifer walked over to them, and took a seat roughly between the two. They seemed to be talking, and she hoped she wasn't disturbing anything. She decided to risk it and say "hi" anyways. She hoped they wouldn't be upset. Actually, she hoped they'd be willing to talk, either to distract her or to give her someone to vent to.

"Um, hi guys! I saw you here and I know you go to Bayview too and I just wanted to say "hi", since we're all here."

Jennifer thought she had gotten off to a pretty good (if somewhat clumsy) start, until she took a closer look at Rosa. It looked like she was drinking alcohol. Jennifer glanced around, but it looked like no one in a position to give Rosa trouble had overheard her slip up.

Fuck. First thing I say and already I'm screwing things up.

"Er, um, sorry," Jennifer said, lowering her voice.

"Drinking's almost the most fun somebody can have on their own," Rosa told Morgan. "Almost... but usually, I'm with people, so no, I don't drop by here too often."

Things were getting a little awkward, which was probably only to be expected given that Rosa and Morgan had next to nothing in common with one another. The drinks said it all. Alcohol versus tea. However, at that point, she was finally granted the mercy of somebody else turning up.

Finally! I was starting to think that nobody ever came to this fucking dive!

It was Jennifer Perez, peacemaker extraordinaire, or at least, it seemed that way to Rosa. Practically every time she saw Jennifer, she was getting involved in some dispute or another, trying to sort things out. It looked that way anyway. Her relief at the new face was shortlived though, as Jennifer started merrily chatting along about knowing them both from Bayview.

You- you fucking idiot! - I have a fucking drink here and you're talking about high school!? Think a little! Jeez.

Luckily, the barman was off serving one of the very few other patrons, so the slip had gone unnnoticed, thankfully.

"It's okay Jennifer... just don't do that again alright? It would have been fucking curtains if somebody had overheard."

Great. Now along with Captain Tea, I've got some girl who can't even think things through. Fuck.

((Teo Weinstock continued (indirectly) from Cooling Down)

Teo pushed the door to The Varsity, his arm draped around the shoulder of his girlfriend. He'd managed to meet her before she finished up anyway, so his little error had been corrected, as had his watch. The lounge was one of his favourite places to shoot some pool and relax. Natasha's father owned a bar so he was used to having a beer or two, but The Varsity had a pretty strict code and any indiscretion on his part could see him off the football team. "So babe," he squeezed Tash's arm slightly, "why don't you get some balls and I'll go find us a table. I know how much you like balls." Releasing her from his grasp he grinned and turned to find a table,

Natasha gave him an evil eye, but that was Teo for you, always with the sexual innuendo. She headed off to the counter.

Teo looked around for a open table and strode over to one near the bar he noticed some of his schoolmates sitting down. About to turn back to the table he paused for a moment. Was that Leftowitz? Hanging out with girls? This was something he had to check out. Motioning to Natasha to the table he indicated he was just going to be a minute and strode over to the trio at the bar. Placing his arm firmly over Morgan's shoulder and shaking him a little he opened up into another cheesy grin.

"Lefty, I didn't know you were such a hit with the ladies?" Glancing at the female company Teo continued his beaming smile. "Tash and I have a pool game going, if you are feeling like a game after you're... done here."

((Robert Barron cont'd from For the Kingdom, the Power And Glory Are Yours))

Bobby had been studying for far too long and needed to get out. His brain was rushing around with details about trig and calculus. He needed to unwind, maybe shoot a little pool. He figured the Varsity was the best place to check out, told his parents where he was going, and drove there.

He parked his green Toyota about a block away, and accepted the stamp willingly. He had no real interest in drinking anyway, and the bouncers knew him well enough that there was no point in trying to get past. He looked around, and saw a group of people he knew at the bar. Rosa he had known from childhood, their parents had been friends, but they had never been particularly close. Morgan he knew even less about, beyond he hung around with Jennifer Romita. Made sense, then, that he’d also be in with Rosa.

Jennifer Perez he liked. She always seemed to be trying to help out where she could, and he respected her for that. Again, they’d never been that close, but there weren’t a lot of people at the school that Bobby had been close with. So why not start making an effort. And then there was Teo. Bobby knew Teo as a jock, but the guy was hot. So naturally he also was there with a girl that Bobby didn’t recognise draped around him. Why were all the hot guys in this school straight?

He wandered over to the group. Tash and I have a pool game going, if you are feeling like a game after you're... done here

“Hi guys, looks like we’re quite the motley crew tonight.” He ordered a fresh orange juice and pulled up a chair. “Teo, if that was an open invitation, put me down. I’d quite like to play a game tonight. Whether straight up or doubles, I don’t mind. Now, can I get anybody else a drink?”
CAPTAIN OBVIOUS. Or so I'm told.

Morgan nodded and took a bite out of his burger. Well this certainly seemed like a failed endeavor. This is why he wasn't much of a talker, he couldn't exactly engage in conversation with people and if they were instigating, he was left sitting there.

When he heard the door open he lazily shifted his head over and saw a Hispanic girl coming straight towards where he and Rosa were sitting. He had seen her face before but couldn't place a name to it just yet.

She had taken a spot between where the two of them and, to his surprise began to engage conversation.

"Um, hi guys! I saw you here and I know you go to Bayview too and I just wanted to say "hi", since we're all here."

"Um," he began, unsure of where to go from this, "He...llo?

He noticed that Rosa was not entirely thrilled and thats when he remembered the beer. He forgot he was in a bar and that Rosa wasn't exactly allowed to be partaking in liquor consumption. He didn't really want Rosa caught, because if she was kicked out, he was sure that he could very well be kicked for keeping his trap shut.

"It's okay Jennifer..."

That's who that was! The other Jennifer, Jennifer Perez! Morgan knew quite a bit about her, she was quite a talker at school always wanting to brighten up someones day, or solve any little spats between classmates. Maybe this was the one to talk to.

Morgan was about to say something to her when he felt a hand on his shoulder and shaking him, which nearly caused him to leap out of his seat. He turned and saw Teo Weinstock hovering above him with a silly grin upon his face.

"Lefty, I didn't know you were such a hit with the ladies?"

Morgan feigned a smile. Teo was a rather loud individual, something that didn't particularity fit for him. As such, a wave of discomfort began to creep up his spine.

"Tash and I have a pool game going, if you are feeling like a game after you're... done here."

"Done here?" he asked, briefly confused by what he said.

Then the thought hit him and his cheeks began to flare up.

"Oh! Um-uh...Sure, I-uh I'll join you if I have the time."

He faked a laugh and gently slid out of his grip. He then looked down to study at the amount of sesame seeds were on the top of his bun, hoping that Teo would leave him alone now.
