Oscar was sitting in his room, smoking a cigarette. His door was locked, the window open. Up until about a month ago, because of his older brother and his constant trouble making, his parents had never really looked twice towards Oscar's own habits. As long as he kept his grades up he could do whatever he wanted, really. But now, he needed to be much more careful.
After the crash happened, his parents kept both him and Rory much closer, almost like they were afraid that any day would be their last together. Of course, he could understand why. They had buried an empty coffin.
"Beloved son, brother, friend."
"12/25/1992 - 6/14/2012"
Somehow, all of Travis' sins had been washed away. They forgot about the rather obvious use of weed, and potentially other drugs. They forgot about the calls from school, all the times Trav had gotten home drunk, and the girls he'd kept in his room. Not to mention that Oscar had thought the guy had been a total idiot at times, always arguing with his parents and just making things worse. Many nights had been spent listening to their shouting until finally... it had stopped all together, and it was only then he realized how much better the yelling had been.
Still... He missed his older brother. Travis was a tool, and often did rather dubious things during his free time... But Oscar cared for him, and he knew Trav felt the same way. He couldn't help but miss the guy, with that stupid grin on his face and his ridiculously carefree attitude. If Trav had known what was waiting, he'd probably have smiled and gone, "Huh, guess TSA won't mind if I bring some weed on the plane then? At least I want to spend my last moments in a nice state of mind". That fucking idiot.
He dried his eyes quickly. Travis was dead. That was that. It had been almost a month now. His parents had gone back to work, and Rory was enjoying summer vacation. They were all asleep now though.
"OH GOD! HUNTER! Oscar? OSCAR!? HELP ME!"
He snapped out of the daydreaming.
"Shit! Sorry sorry sorry, Riley!"
He was playing Left 4 Dead with some friends from school. He'd probably be asleep through most of Independence Day, but then, he didn't really care that much. He'd grown increasingly apathetic ever since Travis died.
"I was..... daydreaming."
