Hey, so apparently there's an arbitrary cutoff for SC2 saying that anyone who's died/rolled after the February midmonths in v6 is ineligible to be submitted for SC2. Well I and hopefully at least a couple others would really kinda like to see that changed if possible, because we wanna submit our more recently deceased characters and it would be really cool and awesome if we could do that! So this is my open request for that and I hope many other lovely folks might be in agreement with me there. So post!

Whilst I can't speak for everyone else, I don't personally think I want to see SC2 turn into V6.5 like how SC1 did with V4.

I personally believe we've already seen plenty of non V6 interest in SC2 (primarily in that I have no idea who the vast majority of the people getting applied are) and I'd support extending the right to apply more recently killed characters. Maybe there's a compromise to be had? Something like only allowing one V6 character per handler or the like.

Thanks for starting this, D/N!

I feel weird about cutting a version in half in Second Chances. I'd rather have either no V6 characters or all V6 characters. Excluding characters based on their time of being rolled seems weird. In retrospective this system will not be good either. I feel all kids of a version belong in a pack together.

^ That's an interesting opinion... But haven't the packs of kids from other versions already been split up by the relatively diverse source of kids so far applied? V4, V5, PV2, TV2, and so on.

Moved to Support and Suggestions!

A few thoughts/possible points for both sides, coming from me wearing my "personal musings" hat and not my "official staff policy" hat:

1. Were we to do this, the fairest way would likely be to simply remove the restrictions entirely beyond "Character must be dead." That would allow characters to smoothly pass from V6 to SC2 in, like, a day. I'm not sure if that's good or bad; the initial, much stricter, SC1 rule was designed to prevent people from just going for an immediate mulligan win attempt. That said, I'm not totally sure that's as much of a concern these days. The community has changed and matured a lot in the past half decade, and we did already remove most of the limit's teeth.

2. This might feel unfair to handlers who've already submitted characters. This could probably be circumvented by allowing folks to swap characters if they really wanted to, though that in turn would make more staff work to an extent. That swapping could also maybe raise issues in a hypothetical SC3, but a. we've not seen such issues from characters who missed SC1 and b. that level of foresight doesn't seem totally necessary for SC, since SC is already a quirky game with a few ripples that are smoothed over.

3. At present, this would apply to only about nine characters, with maybe another ten to twenty becoming available for use. The impact there seems fairly mild, but it does also raise the question of whether it justifies revising the rules over.

Staff is also chatting on this privately! It is a discussion we're at least willing to have.

No, because all of them are theoretically available, while only 1/3 of the v6 kids are available.

Did SC1 cut up a version too, or was its pregame entirely in v5(?) pregame? I do agree with RC's sentiment that cutting up a version on a arbitary roll deadline is kind of weird, but I'd also like to know what the SC precedent was.

IIRC characters in Virtua had only just begun to die as SC1 pregame started, so the decision was made to just leave it to already completed versions. Obviously the situation is a little bit different now, so I'm very much for allowing v6 characters who have died to make their way into SC2.

SC1 was actually more restrictive in some ways and less in others. It barred all current versions (but Virtua's first rolls came like the day before registrations opened) as well as Endgamers from any version, no matter how far past. On the other hand, it did allow for escapees--none ultimately participated, though.

The current cutoff was mostly designed for the same reason Virtua was excluded: to prevent a revolving door into SC. That said, is that an important thing to prevent? Not sure!

After due consideration, staff has agreed to remove the death deadline for V6 characters. Henceforth, any V6 character may be submitted for SC2 so long as their death is completed prior to their submission and they are not ineligible for some other reason.
