The night had passed uneventfully. Jennifer had made her way through the jungle towards what she thought was the mansion. It was hard to see in the dark and her tracks were next to impossible to follow because of the lack of visbility.
Jennifer trekked all through the night, and because she hadn't run into anyone, she made good time. When she popped out of the jungle however, she came face to face with the lighthouse rather than the mansion. She silently cursed. Sleep deprived as she was, she needed some semblance of a normal place to rest. Still, it was better than nothing. She walked up until her collar started beeping. She immediately backed away.
The blaring announcements caught her attention. No rest for the wicked it seemed. Despite the annoyance, she was relieved. She now had a clearer picture of who was left. She listened to the announcements, made sure to memorize the names of her competition. She had to stay alert. Just because she had made it this far was no guarantee that she would survive till the end. Knowing it was now safe to enter, she made her way to the top and plopped down to rest... but not sleep.
But really, sooner or later she would have to sleep. It was getting to her.
Jennifer thought about everything that had transpired on the island since everyone arrived. So much death, so much blood, so much understanding. She looked at her hands. They shook with anticipation. Everywhere she went, she killed someone. Before this place, she wouldn't have even been able to stomach that thought. She would have turned to literally any of the innumerable other thoughts there were. But now, she wanted it. The rush that came when she took the life of another. It was incredible. And the more life she took the more she craved to feel that feeling again.
When Tim kissed her, that felt good. When she subsequently shot him in the gut, that felt amazing. She cried tears not only of sadness then, but also of ecstasy. She wanted to feel that way again. She had to, she just had to. She slowly realized that hiding up here would diminish her chances of that. Not many people would think to come up here. Hell, she herself only came here by mistake.
She tried to remember the non-danger zones left. There weren't that many as there were before. But there was one that caught her interest: The Resort Hotel. She grinned the widest grin she could, just like Tim used to. She tipped his, no her, hat down. "Someone has to be there. It's a nice place to just get away from it all. So someone has to be there. Soon, soon I'll feel that feeling again." She surveyed the area from her vantage point. It wasn't difficult to find the Hotel. All she had to do was mark a path on her map. She gently sliced her thumb on the machete. Just enough to get some blood. She used her compass to align her map with her position. She then slid her thumb straight from the Lighthouse to the Resort Hotel.
Just follow the blood. Follow the blood to her next kill. Jennifer felt less like a girl now and felt more like a vicious animal. A predator that survived by tearing apart anything that it came across. She laughed and looked up to the sky. She didn't care if anyone was watching or listening anymore. She howled to the air, long and loud. She wanted her voice to be carried all over the island. After her howling, she gave the most guttural roar she could muster.
"YOU HEAR THAT, PREY?!? THAT'S THE SOUND OF THE MOST BADASS MOTHERFUCKER LEFT ON THIS ISLAND! I'LL KILL YOU ALL AND WEAR YOUR GODDAMN BLOOD AS MAKEUP! JENNIFER STEINMAN IS COMING FOR YOU! THERE'S NO WHERE YOU CAN RUN OR HIDE FROM ME ANYMORE! APEX PREDATOR BITCHES, THAT'S WHAT NATURE'S TAUGHT ME THAT I AM! APEX MOTHERFUCKING PREDATOR!"
She cleared her throat, grabbed her stuff, and made the trek down. She stuck her bleeding thumb in her mouth and bit down softly. She needed the taste of blood in her mouth to tide her over until she got her next kill.
