Lukas still wasn't quite sure what to feel. Gene had been saved for now, but at the cost of an obvious madman obtaining a blade. By any regular moral standards, this would be a great injustice. However, he had realized long ago that SOTF spits upon what an average person would consider to be moral. Still, the shock of actually experiencing it instead of trashing it from behind a computer screen was really starting to affect him.
It was at this point that the voice came from his collar again. They said something about how they were glad that he and Zoe weren't hurt, and that it sucked that they lost their sword. Lukas choked out a bitter laugh and muttered under his breath.
"Great. Now you care."
Lukas was brought out of his irritated funk when Zoe spoke up, asking whether or not they should try to find Gene. After all, he did kind of book it right after they saved his life. Gene may have been a small guy, but he had already proven that he could get himself into huge trouble.
"Yeah, I guess we'd better go look for him." Lukas looked off in the direction that Gene had fled to. "I don't think anyone else would be kind enough to bail him out of trouble." He let out a sigh as he resigned himself to his latest duty. "Well, let's get going."
He set out to begin their search, bag slung over his shoulder as he marched forward. He would have hoped that it would go off without a hitch, but by this point he had learned not to expect miracles.
