((Bobby Goldman continued from Party Hard))

Bobby stepped out onto the loading dock of the warehouse. He could still clearly hear Skye's music thrumming through the walls and out into the night. Dad's on shift right now. I wonder if he's having a slow night. I hope so. He looked around, seeing the line of cars parked unevenly in front of the loading dock. There were plenty of kids in there now. Skye's party would be a success. And I can leave now without being missed by anyone.

He took another deep breath. The air was cooler outside than it was in the warehouse. It was calming to be a little further away from the crowd, a little further away from where he almost got into another fistfight. That was a close one. Dad would not have approved. But it all worked out; Devonte backed down and we both got to maintain our attitudes. If only Jaszy hadn't witnessed it. I don't want to disappoint her.

He breathed deeply again, trying to empty the thoughts from his mind. He felt the beginnings of fatigue in his legs.

[Eloise Winterburn début]

Fashionably late. When you were Eloise Winterburn and you were running late, "fashionable" was the perfect excuse to use. Write it off as ironic negligence, brush it under the mat of being too cool to care, attribute it to your personal style and let everyone else feel stupid for not "getting it". Always worked, always had, always would.

Truth was, of course, she'd forgotten about the party until just half an hour previously, when her phone had helpfully reminded her. The address had slipped her mind too, so looking that up again had taken more precious minutes. She also didn't have money on hand for a cab, so walking slowed her actual moving progress to a figurative crawl. And all this, of course, came secondary to looking her absolute best. Not that she'd admit to that, no, she just "threw" on what she was wearing, and her painstakingly tousled hair was just that way anyway. Eloise was far too cool to be seen to devote time to her appearance.

Finally arriving outside the warehouse Whose bright idea was it to host this in an industrial estate? God, such poor taste., Eloise was surprised to find somebody she knew outside. Not that she was surprised she knew them, surprised someone she immediately recognised wasn't inside, being the life of the party in her absence. Running through the mental checklist of names and faces, Eloise quickly eliminated the major players, narrowing it down to small time faces; and that made the boy's presence outside by choice more palatable. Eventually, just as she was within talking distance, she put a name to the face and wondered aloud;

"What's Bobby Goldman doing out here alone, huh?"

(Cesar Perdomo continued from When It´s Time To Party We Will Party Hard)

When Cesar got out, actually he was not surprised to find Bobby in good company. Guy seemed to always find himself surrounded by some good-looking gals, even if he didn´t want to. Cesar was not going to interrupt in anyway the scene unfolding a few feet besides him, no. He just put the joint in his mouth, and then stroke a match and put the top of the thing close to it.

Aaaah, the most pleasant sensation of the world. Almost seemed like heaven itself should be. Cesar could be certain that the girl that was now approaching Booby was Eloise Winterburn. They were together in Science class, although Cesar rarely put any attention to the name of his classmates there. However, the preppy girl always had ended up catching his eye. Cesar was human, after all. Even if he was some sort of loner freak that couldn´t mean he did not check the girls sometimes. Cute looking gal, after all.

Cesar decided that he would offer them some of his joint after they were finishing introducing each other. It seemed sort of rude to enter into their conversation right now. That if they didn´t ask him before presenting himself. He didn´t mind giving a few smokes to them, at all.

He just leant against the wall of the warehouse, hearing the music and feeling the soundwaves vibrate along the smooth surface of the wall. It was a good party, after all. Maybe Julia hadn´t been wrong after all. So far he was enjoying himself.

The party was in full swing now. The inside of the warehouse was loud with conversations as well as music. Bobby glanced back through the doorway, but felt too drained to go back inside. As he turned away again, he saw a later arrival to the party. An attractive girl he quickly recognized as Eloise Winterburn.

She climbed the steps up onto the loading dock and greeted Bobby with a half-smile. "What's Bobby Goldman doing out here alone, huh?"

Out of the corner of his eye, Bobby saw that Cesar had followed him out onto the loading dock, but he was hanging back, giving Bobby space to talk to Eloise first. Huh, that's decent of him.

"Hey, El," he said when she got close enough to talk to without shouting. "I got here early and already did my dancing. Also, Devonte Washington is inside being a bit of an asshole. All things considered, I was thinking about cutting out early."

40th street. Every time she walked down 40th street, she was hit up.

Admittedly, it was a long street. There were a lot of places to hit a girl up on. And she was walking slowly, what with the new high heels that were gorgeous and giving her blisters.

Anyway, it was a stupid ritual, because her response was so damn pat.

"Where you from?" Two guys in red. Ah, this was Blood territory. Moving up in the world.

"Black Cat." She smiled now. Trim, white teeth. I paid for this.

One of the guys on the block was young. Looked about sixteen. "Black Cat?" He started. Belligerent. Probably trying to impress the guy he was with. Little moron. "That ain't a place--"

And Odile angled her face into the streetlight.

She never wore cake makeup when she wasn't onstage, so all that was around her eyes was a little black mascara, a little chimney-grey eyeshadow. Sodium vapor did no kindness to the skin--it gave her a pallor. But it hollowed out her eyes a little bit, and played off her lips, thin and crooked.

And the guy realized his mistake.

"Oh shit!" He backed off, backed up. Good boy. The older man put a hand on his shoulder. Protective, yes, but promising discipline. That kid was going to have a nasty night.

Pallor and hollow eyes, thin lips and long neck. She always took care to look surreal onstage, with white (or sometimes blackface) foundation and intricate whorls and hollows penciled onto her skin. But everyone in the neighborhood had seen her shows. She was distinctive.

"Are you going to jack me?" The question wasn't a question. Status was a funny thing. With boosters, the jewel-clerks would keep an eye on her. Downtown, though, they thought she was swank.

It's the audience, sweetie. You're not real unless someone sees you. Uncle Q's words.

Dramaturgy. Term from a turgid sociology book she read. The presentation of self. The eternal mask. Liberating and lovely.

"N-no." The boy said. Scared now. Beautiful. She wanted to cup his chin.

They offered her help, then. The street was dangerous. They could lead her through.

Yup. The street is dangerous. But nothing else interesting happened in that scene.

--------------

To explain, lovely audience, because exposition is necessary; The Black Cat brought business to town. Uptowners, people looking for a thrill, willing to pay a little bit more for drugs and industrial parties and sex sold by girls who smelled like bubble-gum perfume. The Black Cat was a fire in this dying city, an ember blown to smolder by its prodigy owner.

And once people figured that out, no one in their right mind was going to jack the girl who ran the Black Cat.

It helped, of course, that her shows were terrifying in their own right. No one wanted to hurt the girl who people thought was a perverse Nina from Black Swan, white cake makeup and hollow black eyes. Even when she wasn't wearing paint.

The party was loud. Her ears hurt from the night show. People were standing outside--Eloise, late as usual, Bobby Goldman, and Caeser whatshisname, the stargazing pot junkie.

She didn't want to go inside. Her feet hurt. She figured she'd get to know Caeser while she was out here--she hadn't had opportunity to talk to him before, and someone that spacey might say something intersting--and go into the party when the music went low or her ears stopped hurting.

Odile smoked. Not for the addiction, but there were so many images you could play up with a white plastic fag holder, a cuban cigar, a tiny, hand-carved black pipe, or in this case, a single cigarette, straight from the pack, crisp and unwrinkled.

Went up to Caeser. Almost as tall as he, in her heels. Odile loved to up her height--only idiots were afraid of a tall girl, and in heels, she was unnaturally lanky, spidery, unreal and sharp. Surreal, like something from a video screen. Noticeable.

Always be the first one they look at. Always be striking. Uncle Q, again. And Chicago, razzle-dazzle 'em.

He looked over as she approached. He was at peace. Drugs did a good thing for him.

"Got a light, sweetheart?"

Cesar´s eyes inmediately darted over to the androginous beauty that had suddenly appeared besides him. She looked like she had gotten out from one of the 1980´s films that he loved to watch. She actually even reminded him of David Bowie on the film "Labyrinth". He then imagined her dancing with Jennifer Connelly and couldn´t help but smirk to himself. He tried to remember what was the name of the girl. Odile...Jones? Yeah, that was it, Jones.

He tried to remember what he had heard about her at high school before. Nothing at all, except that she worked at a cabaret with her uncle. A theater girl, huh? His kind of person, after all. Oh, and that she loved horror films. Cesar actually had wanted to talk to her as soon as he had known the girl liked horror flicks. But, like most females in his life, she was out of his reach.

Well, she is here right now, so you might better say something cool or else she will think you are a freak

"Yeah, of course..." he said, getting the matchbox from inside of his pocket. Damn, he should have brought a lighter. He handed her the box, hoping she didn´t consider rude from him of hoping she would strike her own match.

Damn, really smooth, Cesar. Well, if you finnish your joint soon at least you won´t have to face the shame of her thinking you are a retard...

He decided to put his thoughts aside. He just laid against the wall of the warehouse again, trying not to look at the girl that was right now in front of him. Damn, she was really cute. Actually, Cesar decided, if he ever got a girlfriend, he wanted her to be someone similar to Odile. Someone who seemed neither male nor female. Someone who was an artist, someone whose life was art. Complete art in itself. In many ways, Odile was a masterpiece. The stuff that dreams were made of.

He decided just to look at the stars, waiting for Odile to give him back his matchbox. Actually, she could even take it with herself. Cesar wouldn´t mind at all.

"So..." he said, giving her a small glance "Are you waiting for someone or you just did like me and decided to come here on your own?"

His eyes then set for the night sky. He then tried to find some of the constelations that he could recall teaching Andrea two nights ago, from their window. Ah, there was the Big Dipper. That one was really easy to find. His personal favorite was Cygnus. It had been one of the earliest ones named, more precisely by Ptolemy, on the 2nd Century. It looked like a swan. Hummm, now that he thought of it, Odile looked like one too. A graceful, beautiful bird, with a long neck and a wide wingspan. She even could be seen as a sort of Natalie Portman character from a movie from a couple of years back.

"Hey, El,"

L? My hair can't possibly look like tha-- oh. Right.

That was a habit Eloise kept telling herself she needed to get out of. Not everybody was aware of the kinds of things she was to begin with, and even then, odds are what sounded like "L" was in fact just short for "Eloise", not a comparison to the unusual detective. Then again, that disheveled look did have a certain charm to it... maybe next year. Or at College.

"I got here early and already did my dancing. Also, Devonte Washington is inside being a bit of an asshole. All things considered, I was thinking about cutting out early."

Worrying about things may have been a problem, but the speed at which Eloise managed it; not a habit she needed to get out of. Bobby had started talking around the time Eloise was considering adopting the detective's odd look, and she'd managed to pay attention and finish the train of thought quite effectively. Effectively enough to respond, at least.

"I guess I am a bit late, huh?"

Because the 'early' part could only possibly be a snide comment on her own timing. No wait, this is Bobby we're dealing with, he doesn't think that way. Maybe he actually was early.

"That's just how guys like him are though, no point leaving just because he doesn't want you around. They'll never take you seriously if you just do it the easy way."

In all honesty? Eloise didn't know if that was even slightly true. But with some luck, next time she'd be in time to catch the fireworks, and that was always entertaining. Setting volatile young men against each other was, to Eloise's mind, the next best thing to SOTF. Not so much with the fatalities, but all the same macho grandstanding and the occasional fight that was worth watching.

"Anyway, I guess it's your lookout. Probably won't give you any trouble if you're with me, if you did wanna go back in."

Or, in other words, she was going in. Which she did. Bobby wasn't the most interesting conversationalist around, and having just spotted that lovable oddball Odile which is a weird name already, guess she was meant to be strange chatting to some guy she'd identify in a moment, just between her and the warehouse entrance.

She made her way up to the duo, gave a casual greeting.

"Odile, Cesar. Enjoying yourselves?"

She was pretty sure his name was Cesar. Hadn't the faintest idea what his surname was, but definitely Cesar something.

"I guess I am a bit late, huh?" Her eyes darted around between Bobby, the doorway, Cesar, and back again. They seemed to be an outer indication of thoughts whizzing through her mind.

Bobby didn't mean to make her feel out of place. She certainly wasn't late to the party. "Not at all," he reassured her. "The party took a little while to pick up speed, but now that it's humming, it'll probably be good almost to the break of dawn. Skye finally got the right mix in there." 'Right mix' is a matter of opinion. If Devonte is part of the 'right mix', then I think I'm not. He spotted that weird chick, Odile Jones walk up the stairs and bum a light from Cesar. God help us all if Odile is part of the right mix!

Eloise looked satisfied by Bobby's explanation. "That's just how guys like him are though," she said, referring to Devonte. "No point leaving just because he doesn't want you around. They'll never take you seriously if you just do it the easy way." Is she right? Could I be seen as the one retreating because I left the party before Devonte did? I mean, he's the one who backed down from a fight, for sure. I only left to clear the air and make sure Jaszy wasn't being stressed. I don't have to leave, but I don't want to make more trouble for Jazmine.

Eloise continued. "Anyway, I guess it's your lookout. Probably won't give you any trouble if you're with me, if you did wanna go back in." Well, she doesn't know the lowdown on what happened in there. I'm not afraid of getting into a fight with Devonte, I'm just afraid of what Jazmine will think of me if I do. Oh, grow a pair! Jazmine already hates your guts. There isn't much you could do to make her opinion of you worse.

Without waiting for an answer from Bobby, Eloise walked toward the doorway into the warehouse. She paused to trade a pleasant greeting with Cesar and Odile. She's on her way in, and she expects me to follow her. She makes a good point about how I'll be seen by the kids, and I've already lost Jaszy. So there's no good reason why I shouldn't go back inside.

On the other hand, Cesar followed me out here. He might want to talk to me, and he's smoking.... Is that a joint? Anyway, he showed the courtesy to wait for me to finish talking with Eloise; I can wait for him to finish talking to Odile. And then I can decide whether or not to go back to the party after that. Bobby remained behind on the loading dock. He silently wished he'd gotten a soda before he left. He watched Eloise walk away from him, feeling the tug to follow her almost as a leash.

Johanna glided down the street to the warehouse. Johanna is a white two-thousand and eleven Chevy Suburban with clusters of rust around the doors, hood, and wheels. Although she was old Johanna was a great car, and Sterling had worked on her for years making sure she stayed that way. Recently changing the oil and flushing the radiator, and Sterling could tell that she was feeling better.

Sterling smiled as he got closer when he saw a group of students he recognized near the door. He was happy there were people he know at the party. Since he drove here he wasn't going to drink, so having people to talk to was nice. He wore blue jeans, a grey t-shirt, and a green army jacket to the party. He parked a ways across the street, and got out of the car. After he checked both directions he didn't see any cars, and ran across the street. He approached the door still smiling,

"Hey everyone. What's going on?"

Cigarettes. She took a deep breath. Inhaled. She may have taken up smoking for image reasons, but she really did like the taste of smoke now and then. It was a bitterness she'd grown used to, like the taste of black coffee a few years back. Never necessary, always relaxing.

"So..." he said, giving her a small glance "Are you waiting for someone or you just did like me and decided to come here on your own?"

He was nervous, she could tell. He had tiny tells, a twitching vein, a too-quick twist of his shoulder. That was a pity--nervous people tended to throw her off her stride. Perhaps this conversation would take something out of her, and that was no good before she went into a party.

But no. She had seen him before. Thoughtful hands. He sat outside of school, pulsing with the sunrise and the rain and the geese who flew up North. He let the world rush into him, until he was more a pair of ears and eyes than a boy named Caeser.

This was interesting. She could never be a pair of eyes and ears, taking in the world like that. There was nothing so quiet in her, no possibility of stillness or contentment. She was always restless, flinging herself outside herself, into the audience, into the world.

Yes, they who knew both of them probably thought they had a lot in common, with horror movies and strange, starry obsessions. But they would always be different, like this.

She could ask him to dance, but the music was still loud, and he would be nervous. Or they could sit here on the docks, and look at the stars.

"Odile, Cesar. Enjoying yourselves?"

Eloise Winterbaum. Disheveled and lovely as usual. Not bisexual, although she tried. It was a pity. Odile would have loved to sleep with her.

Still, Caeser was the one she was interested in right now. Caeser and the cool night and her wounded feet and the stars, infinite and clear in this dockside breech of Detroit's light pollution.

"Yup." Casual. Go away.

And Eloise waved and went in to the loud party.

So. She could dance with Caeser. But that would just make him nervous. Or she could ask him about the sky he seemed so intent on.

"Are you stargazing?"

There were two distinct looks Eloise recognised, shortly after approaching Odile and her stargazing companion. The first came before anything was said in reply, the same look she'd received from almost every boy in the school - infinitely subtler, but still noticeable when it's so familiar. It was the one that told her that, while it was primarily to make her uneasy, Odile's casual flirting wasn't 0% genuine.

"Yup."

Then, it was replaced by another look, which she'd also seen plenty of times before. Not an amorous one, not even particularly friendly. It was the one that said "I'm politely asking you to piss off." Evidently she wanted to be alone with Cesar, for the time being.

Whilst she could have not taken the hint, and hung around, Eloise knew full well it wouldn't help her at all. The conversation would be uninteresting, intentionally so to make her want to leave, and the air would be uncomfortable. So instead, she pretended it was her idea to move along, with a short wave and the almost-painfully sweet "Well, I'll be seeing you."

And with that, she made her way inside. Her ears quickly directed her towards the sounds of partying teenagers.

((OOC: Sorry for having being so late in answering, its just that my computer has been experiencing some problems for a couple of days. Hope you havent minded).

He wouldn´t have minded Eloise staying with them a little bit more of time, but apparently Odile wanted to keep him all to herself. Cesar liked that, actually. It was not that he didn´t like Eloise or anything, he was sure she was a great gal and all that, but... well, truth is, Cesar was more interested on Odile right now. He couldn´t take her eyes off her, as she inhaled the smoke of her cigarrette and let it on her system. As his eyes met hers, he coult even tell that she was "sort of" interested on him.

Besides, Bobby was still there, possibly waiting for him, and Cesar wouldn´t have liked to let him down. Actually, one of the first reasons he had lighted up his joint was to share it with him. Well, it seemed thar right now the first person he would actually have to offer it was to Odile. Maybe if they both were stoned it would be easier to talk to her without looking like a complete freak. It wasn´t like the joint that was on his hand was the only one he had with him right now. There were a couple of them left already rolled in his pocket.

And then there was the other guy... what was his name? He had just popped into scene with his car, Steven couldnt make up his features from the other side of the street. Sterling, wasn´t it? Hummm, looked like this party was reaching its zenith, actually.

Are you stargazing?

The question took him somewhat by surprise. He hadn´t though that a girl (correction, a godess) like Odile would show any interest in something that he liked. It proved certainly that life was truly full of surprises.

"Well, actually, yes..." he said, trying not to sound nervous "Why, do you like it too...?"

He tried to look at her straight. He was not used to deal with people. Not like this. Not in a party, smoking a joint with one of the most gorgeous girls in the school. He wondered if he looked nervous right now. That was not good at all, it would probably put her off. He knew that they were both different. She was a people´s person. She liked to be surrounded by them, to be admired by them. He, on the other hand, was always better off alone. He liked to sit and let the world override him.

He did the only reasonable thing to do. He took the joint off his mouth and offered it to her.

"Sorry for not offering you before, it was very rude of me... do you want some?"

He waited for her to take the joint off his hand, and then returned to look at the stars.

"So... know any good constellations, then?"

Cesar, you fucking moron... you will be lucky if she doesnt run into the warehouse saying that there is a freak who wants to toke her up...

Bobby was watching Eloise walk past Cesar and Odile and slip into the warehouse party, when a movement caught his eye. Another car pulled up to the line of cars parked behind the loading dock. When the car's engine shut off and the door opened, Bobby recognized the unmistakable form of Sterling Odair. The tall boy called out a greeting before even reaching the steps of the loading dock.

Bobby reluctantly smiled at Sterling's arrival. The taller boy was known to be a genuinely nice person, unlike the rest of the basketball team. He and Bobby were not close, but they seemed to respect each other as athletes in different sports. With Sterling here, maybe things won't be quite so tense inside, he thought.

"Not much going on out here," Bobby answered the greeting when Sterling got closer. "Devonte's inside being Devonte, though. I stepped out so I wouldn't have to bloody him up. Somebody needs to put a leash on that boy." The words slipped out of his mouth before he realized that Jazmine might be doing something like that. He squeezed his eyes shut for a moment until he forced himself to say something else to cover for the gaff. "Um, Eloise got here just before you did. She's inside, too."

He glanced away from Sterling to see what Cesar and Odile were doing. They were still talking softly to each other, and now they were sharing Cesar's joint. Bobby couldn't tell if Cesar was hitting on the girl, but if he was, Bobby should leave the two of them alone.

They could be there all night. And god forbid if they start making out or something. (I wish I could make out with Jaszy again.) With Sterling here, it will be even safer for me to go back inside the party zone, Devonte-wise; but Jaszy is in there, and I'll probably just get all depressed if I see her but can't have her. So no going inside. But should I stay out here and keep waiting for Cesar while he makes time with Odile? If they lip-lock, I'm definitely going home. But I guess I can give them a little more time. But no kissing the shiksa!

Bobby took a couple of steps closer to Cesar and Odile, both hoping to silently remind Cesar that he was still there, and to try to overhear their quiet conversation.

When Sterling made it to the top of the stairs he noticed that one of them must of went inside while he was parking, or he miscounted while in Johanna.

"Not much going on out here," Sterling turned towards Bobby still smiling. All Sterling knew about Bobby was that:

He was a damned good runner on the track team, dated Jazmine Johnson, and easy on the eyes. They never got the chance to know each other better even though they were both jocks.

Bobby went on with the update.

"Devonte's inside being Devonte, though. I stepped out so I wouldn't have to bloody him up. Somebody needs to put a leash on that boy." Sterling shrugged as if to say, Well, that's Devonte for you. Sterling didn't see it, so he decided that there was nothing for him to say on the issue.

"Um, Eloise got here just before you did. She's inside, too." Sterling, at hearing this, walked to see into the warehouse doorway to see aforementioned Eloise and Amber talking while other students from their school were scattered though the floor dancing, eating, and talking. So I was right. Note: Tap that.

When Sterling turned back Bobby had gotten closer to Odile and Cesar (Sterling didn't talk to them when he reached the dock specifically to give them privacy). Sterling considered leaving, but he stayed to see how Odile would react with using her mind fuckery tactics. Eloise could wait.

(So sorry for the late post--I completely forgot post order like an idiot)

Caeser had offered her a joint. How sweet. She took a drag, let the smoke relax her. God, she was a chimney; a fag in one hand, a joint in the other.

"Know any good constellations, then?"

She handed the joint back to Caeser. He took it softly from her hands.

"Nah." She shook her head. A little regretful. "I had an iPad once, with Star Walk. I used to be able to find--" she searched the sky, looking for what she recognized. "This is the time of year for the Swan."

It was chilly, by the water. She took a scarf out of her oversized bag, pulled it around her neck. Couldn't put her arms around Caeser yet. Too early.

And, oh look. Now there were eavesdroppers. Some actors are always watched, even when they pretend they're not onstage. Sterling Odiar and Bobby Goldman. Sterling she had slept with a couple of times, the first time going nearly the entire way before he discovered she was a woman. Since then, she had played fetish fuel to his less orthodox leanings. Bobby, except in his dealings with Eloise, was entirely uninteresting to her.

She turned, flicked a bit of ash from her cigarette their way. "What's up with you guys?"
