With new instruements now in game, and 2 more to come later this year (hopefully), I think we need to revisit the numbering scheme.

This is the current version:
wrote: 1-9 DRUM (all drum files are in this number range) - Any beyond 9 parts, 100-109
11-19 LUTE (all lute files are in this number range) - Any beyond 9 parts, 110-119
21-29 HARP (all harp files are in this number range) - Any beyond 9 parts, 220-229
31-39 THEORBO (all theorbo files are in this number range) - Any beyond 9 parts, 330-339
41-49 BAGPIPES (all bagpipe files are in this number range) - Any beyond 9 parts, 440-449
51-59 FLUTE (all flute files are in this number range) - Any beyond 9 parts, 550-559
61-69 HORN (all horn files are in this number range) - Any beyond 9 parts, 660-669
71-79 CLARINET (all clarinet files are in this number range) - Any beyond 9 parts, 770-779
81-89 COWBELL (all cowbell files are in this number range) - Any beyond 9 parts, 880-889
91-99 PIBGORN (all pibgorn files are in this number range) - Any beyond 9 parts, 990-999
I'd like to tweak it slightly. Variants (either by sound or type) of an existing instrument would be 100 more than the last version of the instrument. So, the new Misty Mountain Harp would be 121-129 (since the current harp is 21-29). I also suggest for cases where a NEW instrument is given the pre update 16 sounds of an older instrument, that it replace the original.
So, for what we now have in game:
wrote: 1-9 DRUM - Any beyond 9 parts, 1001-1009
11-19 LUTE OF AGES (the pre-16 lute sounds are on this) - Any beyond 9 parts, 1010-1019
111-119 LUTE (the new lute sounds are on this) - Any beyond 9 parts, 1110-1119
21-29 HARP (including Gleowine's harp) - Any beyond 9 parts, 1020-1029
121-129 MISTY MOUNTAINS HARP - Any beyond 9 parts, 1120-1129
31-39 THEORBO (all theorbo files are in this number range) - Any beyond 9 parts, 1030-1039
41-49 BAGPIPES (all bagpipe files are in this number range) - Any beyond 9 parts, 1040-1049
141-149: PIBGORN (this is based on sound alone--it sounds most like a bagpipe currently) - Any beyond 9 parts, 1140-1149
51-59 FLUTE (all flute files are in this number range) - Any beyond 9 parts, 1050-1059
61-69 HORN (all horn files are in this number range) - Any beyond 9 parts, 1060-1069
71-79 CLARINET (all clarinet files are in this number range) - Any beyond 9 parts, 1070-1079
81-89 COWBELL (including Moor Cowbell) - Any beyond 9 parts, 1080-1089
I've made the Pibgorn a variant of the bagpipe here for convenience, as I envision using the 91-99 range for the new bowed instrument(s). Serpent would be a horn variant, and therefore 161-169. The new lute, lute of Ages, has taken the spot used by the old lute, as it retains the old lute sound. That means if that's the sound you want, no renumbering of parts!!

Comments? Questions? Suggestions?

Seems good to me--I'd just need to renumber some pibgorn parts that are currently 91-99 range. Carndan would have more renumbering to do than I, and maybe Fincin too?

I know Fincin is only using Lute of Ages, so having it replace the lute lute in the 11-19 should save him a lot of work there.
Of all the instruments, I figured Pibgorn was the least used, and as something would have to be bumped out of the 1-99 range, I figured it would have the lowest impact in being moved.

Are you counting Misty Mountain Harp as Gleowine's harp?
A bit confused, nothing new for me...:)

Nope. I forgot to include the new harp. It would be 1021-1029 (original harp sounds are still on HARP, and Gleowine's harp has those sounds as well).

I've got my piggy set at 91-99
As for lute and harp, kept them the same and just added either [Lute] *new lute or [Harp] *MMH
I figure Lute of Ages is [Lute] since its always been that way. However, I will go along with whatever the community decides as long as it doesn't require me too much work on my songs.
If it were up to me, I would say put the piggy out of the ranges completely, toss it far far away, and bury it. However I know others seem to like it so I'm good with how you want to do it. This list actually looks pretty good to me since I think I will only have one or two songs affected by the changes being that is all the more times I have ever used the pibgorn. I've not used the new lute or new harp at all yet.

The new harp has a dulcimer sort of sound that also works well as a replacement for Asian plucked instruments, such as the koto. I'm playing around with what combo of the 4 plucked treble instruments to use in bluegrass arrangements now, so that the breaks will all sound different.

I cannot say others will do it the same as me, but since Digero made it so that Lute registers as Lute of Ages and Basic Lute as the new lute sound that was included in the update a while back, I will be labeling my new songs as such:
X:11 [Lute]
X: 111 [Basic Lute]

Yup--that's how I assigned the instruments. 11 is the Lute of Ages and 111 is just lute.

My point is, abc player will see just Lute....as Lute of ages. No reason to label it lute of ages. [Lute] instead of [Lute of Ages]
Basic lute is [Basic Lute] which is that terrible thing they gave us in the update that made of cry for our old lute back.
Instead of going back and editing all my files from the past that need the lute of ages, I can leave them be since X: 11 [Lute] is Lute of Ages in abc player.
