It is vital we keep the Quarry property clean. Our ball field lease depends on it. Read below.
Trash being left at the Quarry ball field is becoming a serious problem. Andy and I didn't tell anyone for fear panic would set in, but a renewal of the ball field lease almost didn't materialize. That would have meant we were finished, at least as far as playing games at the Quarry was concerned. The main reason for the Quarry hesitation in renewing the lease was TRASH. Trash left by league members. Trash left by league members and strangers practicing at the field. Trash left by people coming on the property to have lunch through the course of the day.
There's only so much we can do if we are not there, but if we are there, let's clean up after ourselves. If you are driving by and you see trash strewn about because someone unloaded their garbage on the property, maybe you can stop and discard some of it. Doing so just might save the field.
The Quarry bigwigs are serious about this. It seems they get complaints from the township residents and the township themselves. We really need to be more diligent. If you see something on the ground, please pick it up. It could save your league at the Quarry which for many is a home away from home.
Stop for a moment and project what it would be like without the Quarry ball field. It would really suck for a lot of people. Sure, we would still have Sunday games elsewhere and weeknight games at Hatfield and Stover, but Quarry weeknight teams would be SOL.
I know exactly what it's like. We lost the Garden Golf ball field in Montgomeryville in the fall of 1998 and had nowhere to play softball. It's a crappy feeling. Luckily we were able to shift over to the Quarry.
Let's be smart.
