As another (probably silly) attempt to boost some activity in here, I present here my own idea of how a SBK game could be designed.
Gameplay: The same 'race to the goal and use items from shop poles to hinder your opponents.' gameplay like in the previous games. There are some minor variations to it in the game's story-based objective mode, though, and two new mechanics would be introduced:
1: Sharp Cornering. This is automatically used when the player tilts either down-left or down-right on the control stick to turn sharp turns. Basically depending on the character, the player will turn sharp corners faster or slower. Characters with a focus on turning have a higher boost with turning sharply to compensate for low speed on straight paths.
2: Recovery. This determines how fast a character recovers from the ground after being hit by either a item or crashing against the wall. Speed-based characters take longer to recover than turning-based characters as well.
Plot:
When the kids are up to their usual outside activities like snowball-based fights or snowboarding past schooltime, a boy comes onto the scene and introdcues himself as Rodney Wealton, the young heir of a rich car manufacturing company who visits Snow Town on holiday, and being intrigued by the snowboarding popularity, he decides to host a competetion in order to pick up snowboarding the fun way, with as grand prize whatever the winner desires from 3 things: 10.000 G, a all-expenses paid week holiday, or a object of great worth to whatever the winner wants. The classic gang consisting of Slash, Jam, Nancy, Linda, Tommy, Nicole, Pamela, Ruby and Wendy join the tournament, but a few new faces are also interested in the competetion for their own reasons...
New characters:
Rodney Wealton: Age: 10. Speed: ** Cornering: ** Trick: *1/2 Sharp Corners: *1/2 Recovery: *1/2
Only 10 years, but Rodney Wealton has the personality of a gentleman at heart. Being the heir of a wealthy car manufacturing company, he organizes a tournament purely to pick up Snowboarding in a fun way, and enters the competetion with his neat blonde curly haircut, pointy nose and a nice smile.
Anita Venico: Age: 11 Speed: *1/2 Cornering: ** Trick:* Sharp Corners: ** Recovery: **
Also entering the tournament is a good acquaitance of Rodney called Anita Venico. She's a well-known young clothing model and instantly recognizable with her blue curly hair, round nose and a long ponytail she keeps tied with a yellow bow. She displays a kind enough attitude towards most of the kids, but takes rather great pride in her appearence. While she claims she's visiting Snow Town and came across Rodney by coincidence, in truth she holds a big grudge against Rodney because during preparations of a shoot of a new outfit she was supposed to showcase a month ago, Rodney accidentally spilled soda over her, and while he did apologize for it, she found it not acceptable and wants a way to get back at Rodney, and thus followed and overheard his announcement of the tournament, intending to put the boy in his place.
Burk Tennon: Age: 12 Speed: **1/2 Cornering: */12 Trick: * Sharp Cornering: * Recovery: *
Burk's a brown-haired, round-nosed boy with a bit of a gut, but also wih muscles in his arms to spare. He's well known amongst most of the children of his class to have failed to pass to the next class due that he hates math, and thus also hates it when the other kids make him out for a dumb pig. While he's usually friendly enough, one vague insult is enough to anger him, and he takes pride in his muscles and supposed 'bad attitude'. Overhearing the announcement, Burk comes up with the plan to join the competetion to win the prize money and attempt to bribe the teacher into letting him pass the exams so he won't be the laughing stock anymore. His only problem? He never snowboarded much. But that doesn't stop him from accomplishing his goal...
Franky Tennon: Age: 9 Speed: * Cornering: **1/2 Trick: **1/2 Sharp Cornering: **1/2 Recovery: **1/2
Franky's the younger smaller brother of Burk, but he's very different from his brother in that he's very kind, smart and has energy to spare. Due to his friendly nature he has quite some friends in his class, and sits in the same class as his older brother, something Burk's quite ashamed of, but Franky unlike most other kids views his brother with great admiration for his strength, and adores him. His dream is to one day become a air pilot, and he enters the competetion purely to improve on his tricks as he thinks mastering tricks is like soaring through the air, to him the first step to becoming a pilot. He's always snowboarding wearing a old-fashioned pilot helmet for ski visor, and has short curly brown hair and a similar round nose to his brother.
Modes:
Competetion: Compete in the main tournament, and race across various courses in one go and win points for your ranking. Midway through the races, you can use the money earned to buy better boards, but only for this mode as the AI gets increasingly harder to beat in later races. If you win 1st you get to view the character's ending and get a huge money prize for use outside of the mode.
Story: Follow the kids as they go through the few days before the main event starts. Throughout the days they put on dares with each other and find that there's somebody out trying to sabotage the tournament... This mode is nessecary to complete for unlocking the hidden characters.
Skill games, consisting of the following mini-games:
K.O. Game: In this mode you race through a few courses where the objective is to hit other players a few times before they're out of the race, and depending on your position after the race as you can get knocked out too, you get a money reward.
Speed Cross: Race through the whole course using rockets and fans to reach the goal in a set amount of time, similar to SBK2. You get a extra money reward if you picked up all of the items and another for not getting hit or falling off the course.
Trick game: How many stunts can you perform off a special track designed for tricks? You get extra money if you do all the special stunts for that character during the attempt.
Shop: Here you can buy the usual new boards and different paint jobs for a small price, but similar to Plus, it also comes with clothing for each character, hairstyles you can choose out from a specific set, and even artwork and extra movies.
Courses:
Starter Slopes: Similar to Rookie Mountain, Starter Slopes is the first and the easiest course of the game as it has no edges to fall off, small slopes for stunting and is relatively short. Easy picking for beginning.
Avalanche Peaks: The 2nd course in the game, this course introdcues a few big slopes to try special stunts off, a few risky small shortcuts that if you're not careful, you're going to fall off and waste precious time, and occasionally a blizzard blows in obscuring the view for far away. In Story Mode a 'boss' section of sort appears in where you have to outrace a incoming avalanche through the course.
Rodney's Mansion: For the 3rd course, Rodney made his parents' mansion into a racing course. Starting from the top balcony, the players race through the hallways to various rooms like the dining room, dancing room, the foyer and finally the back yard, where the lift will take them back to the balcony. Beware the statues in the mansion, though. If you crash into any of them, it will cost you 300 G each, and in case of not enough money, the servants throw you a pan for compensation!
Frantic Tropics: The race starts at the beach, where after a few bumpy hills it soon leads to a cave filled with stallagmites that come rain down for obstacle placement, soon followed by a waterslide into the jungle where if you don't avoid the monkeys hanging arouns the place, they'll steal your item!
Ghostly Graveyard: Taking place around a graveyard at night, the race seems spooky enough, but it soon goes from the entrace to the actual graveyard, and there's a huge bell hanging around the place. Whoever rings the bell 3 times will cause the ghosts to come out of the graves and spook the 1st placer with 3 ghosts.
Night Land: Similar to Dizzy Land, this course takes place in a amusement park at night. Though the attractions aren't just for show. Various places you come across are a merry-go-round you need to ride on without crashing in the actual rides, a spinning octopus arm attraction, the familiar cupcakes, and ride a lift modified from a roller coaster back to the start of the track!
New items:
Bubble: drop this behind you like a rock, and if a opponent hits it, he or she will float up briefly before popping and falling to the ground.
Magnet: attracts yourself closer to the person in front of you.
Remote time bomb: depending on the control stick being tilted forward or backwards you can drop this bomb or throw it a distance and then push the item button again to detonate this bomb that has a wide blast radius. If not inputted for detonation after 5 seconds, it will automatically explode.
Mirror: Attach this to your board to automatically deflect shots fired at you for a small time, and 3 hits only.
Anyway, that's all I can think of myself.
