Getting back into it.

Now that I've been getting a little time to focus on the game again, I've been taking the time to replay through the games and try to make some new observations.

One of the biggest things I have been trying right off the bat is the Ice Board, I've been using it not only to see how well I can play the game on it, but also to test out some of the "walls" of the courses to see which walls you can perform tricks off of, and what walls will cause you to biff. It's been fun since you learn areas where you can pull off a small trick, then simply slide backwards to keep in the race. Big Snowman is a very easy level to practice this on since there's a lot of corners that have no walls, and you can pull off a quick flip to get some money, and still use the banked turn to regain your speed.

What tricks have you pulled off that you once thought were impossible? Let's hear some of them!

Up Down Up Down, Left and release. You know, that last trick on Linda's list. That's probably the craziest one I've pulled out, and it only happens a select few jumps since it requires so much time to perform. Big Snowman stuff mostly!

Speaking of walls you can use and still manage your jump, I think The big drop in Silver Mountain is the most obvious spot to do this kind of thing, even though you probably don't feel like it's happening because of the thick fog. But it's there, and it works. As a general rule, most, if not all, air 'walls' seem to be usable for tricks.

Also, does beating Quicksand Valley without falling in any pit count as an impossible trick? :pamelaelite:

Ahh, you're referring to Linda's Leap, I take it? I love doing that trick, I actually practiced quite a bit to master it that I can perform it pretty much everywhere except Ninja Land and Rookie Mountain. (Due to the jumps being too short.)

The trick with the air "walls" tends to be that you have to approach it head on and do the trick just right for it to work without falling or hitting part of the wall that will actually "biff" you. I find practicing on Rookie Mountain's banked turns or on Big Snowman tends to work best.

As for Quicksand Valley, it's do-able without falling into a pit, the level is primarily about control rather than speed. I've beaten it just using a Free Style board with Linda. If you rely too much on Speed in that level, you'll likely fall a lot, especially with the tight turns the level has.

Regardless, if you can pull off Quicksand Valley without falling into a pit, you're definitely handling the level right!

Pulling off flips and grabs off of small bumps on the courses was a lot of fun, and a good way to earn money quickly.

The game referred to that as "high technique" which it really was as you had to read the course pretty well to gauge when is a good time to try to go for a trick, and when to avoid it. Always fun to find new ways to pull off tricks!
