Finally got a copy of SBK1 after first renting it ages ago.

Woah, what a tiring day.
Got up at 4AM to cook some egg rolls and play some Turok 2, then packed the car and left to go to the Smash Tourney at 7:20AM, got there quicker than I anticipated and arrived at 7:50AM so we went in to set-up.
Tournament was good, went crap in doubles but got 7th in Singles.
All my matches were tight and exciting.
And there was some Snowboard Kids!
I didn't win but it was fun as usual.
Made me wanna play #2 though
Dunno, maybe SBK1 should just be as a casual game, rather than an actual tournament at the 2 day event coming up in May.
But I was pretty much appointed as the N64 gaming organizer.
Cause it complements the Smash tournaments, rather than taking away cause it gives people something to do when they are out + some games bring out insane excitement. (Snowboard Kids, Bomberman)
Then got home, put all the gear back, the others played Smash for 3 hours straight, I played a bit, then came and played Turok 2 some more instead.
Now its 9:40pm....feeling rather tired.

Yes SBK1 is not suited for competitive play IMO. A good game don't get me wrong, but Mario kart is exactly the same, people love it but having a competition for it would be near pointless.

They are much more brutal and ya can't reflect them unlike number 2.
Thats not to say we aren't competitive when we play it.
But more so as an actual tournament, the winner is quite often decided by luck.
Not that it won't happen in number 2.

I disagree with you, the game just takes a different strategy than 2 does, and since you have deflection in 2 that just improves your chances a little bit. Try playing 1 and learning to dodge a bit, you'll see a bit of difference in your gameplay.
