Just making a thread that, kind of like Formspring, allows users to ask me questions regarding my interests and other stuff. So if you have a question or topic you wanna discuss with me, why not ask it here?

You can ask me about SBK or other fandoms. What characters, music, levels I like or anything else. Or if you have a question about my artwork (how I do's etc.), feel free to ask me. It's okay to further discuss answers too, it's a discussion thread as well and besides, that's what a forum is basically for, right?

Q&A's can be about anything, even outside SBK fandom. Although discussing SBK is lots of fun here on SnowboWorld, haha.

I do request not to ask me really intimate or personal things, but I guess lots of people would have the same thought. And ofcourse keep it decent and non-mature. :lindalaugh:

Requests for drawings should go in the thread specially made for them, so do not ask for drawings here, please.

And no, you cannot have my pincode :nancyspasm:

So if I haven't forgotten anything... fire away!

I'll start off this thing with my first question, after my blunder on your other topic.

What did you like so much about SBK that got you into it?

For me, it was the art style that attracted me into buying the game and giving it a shot. I was a young kid back then and due to the AI I had difficulty beating it and so I didn't play it for a while, until recently I got back into trying out that game again, and I liked it much more than I did back then, probably due to my skills at gaming having improved, so I tried to search around for SBK2 as well to give that a shot, and shortly thereafter I became quite a fan of SBK.

(On a small note, did you know that SBK2 never had a official release in Europe, but strangely it did have a PAL-version release in Australia? I guess this makes SBK2 also a sort of a rare game to get your hands on in European countries like the Netherlands.)

Interesting question, and the answer is a bit sad actually XD

My bro and I were a gaming duo, but when it came to buying games my bro had the final word. When I read about SBK in a gaming magazine, I suggested we buy this game. But since my bro disliked snowboard games because they are boring (he hated 1080 Degrees) he never agreed to buy it.

So MANY years later, we got an N64 emulator and for fun, we decided to get SBK and SBK2 ROMS for it. Bro concluced that the game WAS in fact fun as it resembled Mario Kart more than just run-of-the-mill snowboarding. But by then, it was too late to go to the store and find SBK/SBK2 for grabs along with a decent controller since all of our N64 ones are busted.

I always remember just seeing the boxart and thinking that the game would be fun. So yeah, it was the art that did it for me too. As I think with most SBK fans. Little fun note to add: it was the artwork of Linda that drew my attention as the magazine had her official artwork picture slapped on the side :lindalaugh: So maybe that's why I like her.

          Curious question here,

What would you see in a future SBK game? If you were the designer and had control over what would be in the game, what all would you like to see in the game? You could add your own characters, courses, anything; I want to hear your thoughts. :lindaangel:

            Ooooh, I like this.

Well, first things first: Get rid of that generic anime style SBK for the DS adopted. Big noses all the way! And also stick to the cartoony, happy-go-lucky style the surroundings of the original SBK had instead of the more serious sports theme.

Next ofcourse, I would keep the original cast (including Wendy, Damien and most likely the cast from SBK+) as well as adding a few new ones. So perhaps if it were possible some of the fancharacters that are on this forum.

I'd add some more courses. We've had deserts and meadows and even outer space, so I am sure there can be more innovative courses that can be added. The powerups from SBK2 were great, so I'd keep those in it as well.

Lastly, I'd stick with either a fun storyline that runs like a cartoon (SBK2) or perhaps the system like SBK+ where each character has his/her own unique ending. But my preference goes to the cutscene style because that is so much fun to watch.

Naturally better graphics and smooth gameplay and yaddayadda, but that's obligatory
            :nancydshappy:

Such a shame Racdym is out of the picture, though. A classic SBK game for the (3)DS or Wii would be awesome.

              Okay, next question.

What is your personal view on each of the kids? What do you like and dislike about them? I'm not looking for an ego-stroke here mind you, hehehe.

Oh boy, this is going to be a long post *grins* I'll just work the list off XD

Slash What I like about Slash is his dorky, arrogant "I am the best Snowboarder" attitude. He kind of reminds me of Ash from Pokemon. My dislike is that he is kind of plain, like the obligatory big-mouthed kid every game has to have.

Jam I have a soft spot for the clowns in a group. Plus I love the Rastafarian look he has going on. Jam is just a silly kid. My dislike? Playing as him eventually gets a little dull.

Nancy She is adorable, specially in SBK2. Her innocent and playful demeanor really rakes in the cute points. My problem with her is that she is slow to play with if you lack the proper snowboard to redeem her weak points.

Linda Though I usually hate snobbish, overbearing people (specially in real life) Linda is the kind of personality that I just take too. Her passionate and competitive nature combined with some comic relief does the trick for me. My dislike is that she is very tough to handle and she takes very stiff turns even with a good trick board.

Tommy Just like Nancy, he has the cute factor going on. Likeable little dude who just enjoys the small things in life... and hamburgers. The downside with him is that I don't usually pick him as first choice at the character screen. He is not that attractive gameplay-wise either.

Shinobin Ninjas are cool, even on snowboards. But I think he is a bit of a boring character specially since his personality is not that outspoken as the others.

Wendy She could be me if I were a Snowboard Kid. Long brown hair, glasses and a bit of a nerd. She proves that geeks can kick butt on the slopes too. But just like Jam, she can get a bit boring if I decide to choose her all the time.

Damien Poor misunderstood devil boy. You've got to give him credit for trying so hard and his bumbling makes him cute. But other than that, I think he is kind of annoying as well.

Nicole Just like Linda, I like her competitive attitude although I have the feeling that she is less blunt than Linda. However, shooting arrows in class is pretty epic. My dislike is that she is pretty much a clone of Linda gameplay wise.

Pamela I like her happy-go-lucky personality and her sadistic side considering she pretty much forced Linda and Nicole to fulfill both of their betting tasks just so she could watch. Other than that, she is kind of boring and not really special gameplay wise.

Ruby SBK needed a macho man, even though I question his age with all those muscles. He has the Johnny Bravo thing going on, which is funny. Other than that, I don't find him so attractive to choose on the character select screen.

Kaede I like it that they made another ninja character who other than Shinobin shows a bit more personality. Her clothing design is also very interesting. But other than that, she is kind of like Pamela gameplay wise.

And I think this post is getting WAY too long... so I will stop right here. At least I did all the 'classic characters' :kaedetongue:

Here's another question: Which one of the bosses in SBK2 did you consider being the toughest to beat?

For me, the toughest is the dinosaur in Expert mode as even with using a speedy board like the Hi-Tech board, he's incredibly fast and you pretty much have to master the boost you can get from the start of the race, and your timing with throwing bombs. The Damien mecha on Expert also comes close, but you can easily win it by using the Ninja board. I did on a side note twice beat it on Expert using a normal board, so it is possible.

Oh yes! The dinosaur boss was incredibly frustrating because you pretty much cannot afford to make any mistakes or he will be too far ahead of you. At least Damien's Robot can be slowed down considerably if you start throwing bombs right after the start of the race (and can avoid the rubble so you don't lose ground) but the dinosaur is definetely the toughest for me to beat.

Now for a non-SBK related one: Which kind of RPG's do you like?

For my own personal tastes, I prefer RPG's that for a plot have a comical yet serious enough tone to it, similar to how for example the first 2 Mario RPG's worked. The plot was simple, yet the charm came from comical situations in where you visited. I also like a simple battle system and prefer turn-based combat the best as it gives me more time to figure out my next move, and lots of extra's to do like sidequests for better stuff, hidden extra's you can find, etc.

My taste in RPGs run more into what fandom they are rather than what gameplay they have. I've played most Mario RPG games (all except the Paper Mario series) and I like the simple, yet challenging gameplay. Timing your attacks or entering a series of buttons etc.

Another RPG that I have played more than once is Earthbound, where the actions are descriptive rather than graphic ("The monster attacked you! You lose 5 HP") It still is challenging as you have to anticipate the moves, yet it is relaxed as it gives you all the time you need to think. Plus Earthbound is one of the most original and heartwarming RPGs I have ever played both in story as in character development

And I guess you can count Pokemon as an RPG of sorts :pameladitzy:

Interesting, though my taste in RPG's also lies mainly to the series they belong to rather than the gameplay it contains, though those gameplay elements I do like the most in those kind of RPG's.

Though I guess you also played Earthbound on a ROM? Because I think that game was never released in Europe for some strange reason.

Oh man, tell me about it! My brother and father are still busy on that game and they've been at it every day for... I don't know how long :rubycrazy:

I have no idea why I took to drawing that much. One day I just picked up a pencil and decided that drawing was fun, I guess. A way to keep my interests going is that I try to challenge myself every time I want to draw and make sure my skills are always innovative in some way, big or small.

And nice. I've kinda went into that direction with drawing myself as well, I wanted to draw since I was around 10, but I never consider about drawing really professional on a tablet or something, just for fun in my spare time. (Too bad I don't have a scanner over here, otherwise I could post some of my sketches on here.)

                                      Okay, next question!

Your opinion on each of the Snowboard Kids (Not tooting my own horn here!), overall and how you could relate to them. I know there was a "look" and "personality" topic on this, but this is more of a "your own opinion of them" question.

So, the question: What is your opinion on each of the known Snowboard Kids?

To moonwulf: Actually, my brother is busy recording a new Let's Play of Other M, doing Hard Mode right now. I'll watch it when all the videos are uploaded, but I can already say that you will be seeing the Game Over screen a lot :damienevil:

To Linda: Okay, back to making a list again, haha.

Slash On the topic of arrogance and being a bit of a brat, I cannot relate to Slash because I am incredibly modest and I hate to flaunt my skills in front of everyone. I do am a bit of a dork sometimes and can get very enthusiastic when I see something I like to do.

Jam It's a shame that Jam loves the only type of music that I don't, haha! But I think that even then, it would be fun to just hang out with him and have fun. Just like Slash, he has a bit of a dorky side that I can relate to.

Nancy I have no trouble relating to Nancy because she has the same modesty and carefulness that I almost always have. Discussions and fights are things I like to avoid or if possible solve and I like to take everyone into consideration in situations. Better to be friends than to be enemies with people, I suppose.

Linda There is one thing about Linda that I can relate to: willpower. I may be gentle at heart, but I am no quitter. On the other personality traits, I don't think I could relate to Linda all that well. She has this egocentric thing going on (giant statue in her backyard?) and egocentrism is another thing that I cannot stomach. Although she appears to be good friends with Nancy and Wendy, I doubt if Linda and I would be good friends.

Tommy For as much as we know about Tommy, I think I can relate to him as well. A simpleton and a good kid, just living by the day and having fun. Sometimes I am like that too (definetely a bit thickheaded here too, haha). Plus, I sometimes LOVE to get my hands on a tasty snack.

Shinobin Uhm... I don't think there is much to relate to considering him because his demeanor is almost inhuman. But I guess when it comes to being cold and serious; no, I am not like that at all.

Wendy Like I already said before, Wendy could very well be the Snowboard Kids version of myself. Although my interests lie more in being artsy than being good with mechanics, her personality still lies somewhat close to mine. Just like Nancy, she has a sense of modesty going on and just wants to have fun with her friends.

Damien Damien tries hard to get noticed, even if he does a few things that you shouldn't. But on that topic, I can relate to him. I too try hard to get recognition sometimes even if that means I have to be very diligent. But I don't go around throwing crabs or bombs at people, haha.

Nicole A bit like Linda, I have my doubts whether Nicole and I would be friends. Although she seems to be a little less egocentric than Maltinie, she still has that bit of a facade feeling to me (being nice to everyone but actually....).

Pamela Pamela is rather neutral with everyone, just trying to be on good terms. By default, I always want to give everyone a chance when I meet them so on that point, she and I are simular. The bit of Schadenfreude she seems to have (with Linda and Nicole) is something I probably would be tempted to have, be it that it only concerns people who actually deserve it.

Ruby Just like Slash and Linda, he is full of himself and as you know by now; I cannot stand that, haha. He seems like a fun guy to hang out with, but if he goes on about himself the entire time, I think my willingness to be friends with him would diminish real soon. Not to mention that he sometimes does things just for personal gain (like snowboarding JUST for the cash). But I do have a bit of a silly, goofy side to myself that seems to be present within Ruby as well.

Kaede I don't know that awful much about Kaede but from what I understand, she is a nice although somewhat bratty kid. So I am iffy on whether I can relate to her. One thing I can relate to is her daydreaming about what she would do with a lot of money. I sometimes find myself caught in daydreaming myself.

Phew! Long post is long, but here it is, haha!

Hahaha, simple as it may be, answering is a lot more difficult.

Let's see... dinnerwise, I am a great fan of sauerkraut stew specially in winter. I also love corn in pretty much all ways of preperation. My favourite salty snack is Nibbits and sweet snacks are Negerzoenen/Angel Kisses (which you probably know as a Dutch person)

Probably missed a few other favourites, but this is what I can name from the top of my head.

Nice, though another funny coincidence is, that while I like Italian food alot, sauerkraut's probably my most favourite healthy meal, so we got that in common.

Though I also wonder, a (very long) while back you did those fan-translated SBK Plus dubs on Youtube, but how come the endings of Ruby, Shinobin and Kaede's were never made?

Ahhh, that was because of a technical issue. Let's see if I remember it correctly.

I relied on the fan-translated cutscene scenarios that were put out by fellow fans here on SnowboWorld. But they had to rely on the PSX emulator version of SBK+ (since it's Japan Only) and for some reason, that game refused to play the endings of Ruby, Kaede and Shinobin on the emulator. Because of that, they could never translate the endings properly and I could never use said translations to make a fan-narrated cutscene for them. Kind of like a crazy domino effect, huh? :kaedetongue:

Yeah, I guess so. Though I hope their text translations come up sometime soon. I do have the game on a emulator as well, but I can't read nor understand Japanese. Unless I take quick Japanese lessons from somebody who's good at it.

Though speaking of which, didn't you do some fan animations of SBK-related flashes using Japanese dialogue?

Oh geez, those animations were really bad Japanese-wise. I had just started my Japanese lessons so I had no real idea on how to do actual dialogue, so the things the kids say are way off.

But now that I am better at Japanese, I might consider doing the translations themselves if I can get my hands on the footage. All the endings are available on YouTube, so perhaps someday I might do it. Or someone else who can read Japanese.
