    Outbreak Games
    Forum

Outbreak Games is pretty much me and 4 friends making games for all our buddies in real life and on the internet, and I felt like inviting you guys to join once we finish with one of our projects. (In fact, you guys are the first people I've told. >_> Maybe even the first people to know, I dunno, I'd have to check with the other guys. But you probably are since no one is on the forums.)

Don't expect to find much on the Site yet, we've only put up information on one game up there. But it IS the one we're working on the most, as it's an MMORPG. Read up on it and tell me what you think. Even give suggestions on it.

We are working on other projects too, but we don't have much on them. Using the program we have, we can make an MMORPG on practically anything with sprites. Anything. Heck, I could even start working on a Snowboard Kids MMORPG, maybe convince the others to help. The only problem would be the sprites, of which we have none. Seeing as SBK has never used sprites... and we don't have anyone that's good making them.

Well, I hope that you guys come and give us support, and play any games we make once they finish. It's no fun making games when no body knows about them yet. T.T

You all seem to be doing something like what I am at the moment.

I'm a Game Designer myself (Not officially yet, but working on it), and i've been working on a Game Design Document for a while now (About 30+ pages at the moment of work) as well as rendering some of the gameplay in the Aurora Neverwinter Toolset to be displayed in two versions, one being a demo and another being the complete gameplay.

I've been considering putting up a small teaser site for the game, but i've been having trouble finding a host for it. If I get anything concrete I can direct people to it.

Neat idea for Knox though, hope things go well.

Verry interesting Idea. I'm prety much a game desiner too like linda, but I use click products instead of what she uses and I'm fairly good at it. I can sprite but I'm not great at it.

Linda: Cool. Freewebs is a nice place for hosting, and it gives some good starter builds so that it doesn't look like crap before you change it around. And maybe when you make it we can affiliate with you to help bring in players for both of us.

Nicole: Thanks for the support and for joining the forums. ... Even if there's still no one there. >_>

Soniro: Jeese, is everyone here a game designer? XD Well, how good are you with sprites? Maybe you could help us with them for the SBK MMO. :D

              Apr 15, 2007#6

Aww man... Knox is going to take longer to make. Wanna know why? Because a more advanced program made by the same people is being made. And it has a lot of new features that'll make the game better. The irony of it is that this is the 2nd time we're going to have to transfer our project to another program. >.<

But there will be a lot of cool new stuff. Maybe if we're lucky we can get a pet system to make a new Basic Class and maybe we can include a tutorial.

They now have a Quest Editor so we can make real quests, and shops are going to be easier to use. And a lot of things that we couldn't change with the current system we'll have more freedom over. Heck, maybe with all of this new stuff it'll be easier to make, I don't know.

Meanwhile, I'm still looking for that spriter. I used to know some guys that were good at spriting, but I have no way to contact them now. So now I'm looking on several spriting sites for skilled people. Wish me luck, and maybe we'll be able to see that SBK MMO out faster than you think. :D

Thanks Soniro, someone there took up the request. So now we have to be patient for a bit...

Anyways, one of the guys made a topic on the message boards to start things up. It's about a new class. :D I'll put up some screen shots too.

                    Jun 13, 2007#9

Ok... Well, time to inform you guys more...

-I haven't gotten any word from the guy making the SBK sprites D:
-I decided just to throw in the class I put in the forum because no one was there T.T
-There's now attack speeds for weapons :D

-And I got screenies! (If you see any tiles that look out of place, tell me. We messed up the tile sheet that the game uses and when we went back to change the tiles all to normal, they were all messed up, so we had to fix the maps by hand.)

-The first photo on the upper left is of a Rouge shooting an arrow at a Crimson Gull, which is standing over a pile of gold.

-The second, upper right, is of an Alchemist about to go into a shop.

-The third is of a Guardian in the starting place, The guy on the left's name was cut off. It's "Newbie Instructor" and he sells stuff for newbs. >_>

-The forth, kinda funny because the two areas in the third and forth pics are right next to eachother in that order, is a Mage in the park of the town.

(BTW, I made the first two areas of the screenshots. How do they look?)

Though I'll tell you this, be careful who you ask to sprite for you. I tryed getting a spriter to help once, But it turned out that he just wanted to spam the cramcakes out of me. Just giving you a heads up, man. :jamdsgood:

Well, I've come to update again. Even though this place is pretty much dead. Darn you Summer break!

First and most importantly, we at Outbreak Games are proud to present that Knox now has creatures from the female race. *Gasp!*

(Apparently the Female Rogue is our 16-bit sex appeal, in the words of our 'character designer'. And yes, the Beast is a new class. You can read up about it on the site. Which hasn't been updated besides for this. >_>)

Secondly, with the program we've been using, we can release the game and let you guys play it at any time and still be able to update it, the problem is, the program itself is still in beta so we wouldn't want for you guys to keep downloading it over and over again whenever THEY update. Sorry. D: (Besides, the program is uber buggy right now, you can't even talk to NPCs unless one of us wants to feel like making a script just for them to say Hi, and when they walk they do the attacking animation instead of the walking one. >.<)

Thirdly, new screenshots are on the way. Deal with our lazyness for a while. Please?

At the moment I can consider some Mod material here, but this place really has no real traffic for anyone to actually mod, and I'm here everyday and then some, and I still have yet to really do much management myself as things run pretty clockwork around here.

The forum here simply needs a bit more activity before I'll start taking up more mods, at current I can handle the workload as is.

Seems you're working pretty hard on it.

In the case of the beta, I would section the releases of it in versions if you plan to show demos of that sort. That way you can also detail what each release has done to be different from its predecessor. Not only would it allow you to organize your releases, but also help in the case of keeping track of what's been accomplished and what hasn't.

I take it your organization is also keeping a test plan updated? Good to have a schedule going about what to test and the like, as well as have a proper procedure to run each test through.

                                  ------

In other news, I may also release some details on my own game's progression. I have been taking some screenshots of the game and have been working on a demo, though I can safely say disabling a lot of the features in my already developed environment can be a real pain.

My game is called "The World of Anestoril", and I may write down a small intro and show it to everyone if they are interested.

Yeah... the program doesn't work like that. See, the program comes with a Server and a Client folder. To get people to play the game, you would have to give them the Client folder, which has none of the important info in it except for the music, sprites, tiles, etc. The Client gets all the information from the Server, and you can't just turn it off. <_< If we were to set up a beta as you said, we would have to use a whole new program. Besides, as I said, the program itself is buggy and we don't want to release it with all the problems it has.

I realize this, my point would be is if you were looking to have the client connect to the server, you set the server to ping to the client if there is a new update available, or if you have to update the client, you put a separate update for it so that players can download it separately.

I currently play a game in development where they have a system like this, even if you have to list the updates in forums so that players know what to look for in the changes, it helps in the case of avoiding the tedium of bugs being replicated in different methods, and also helps you in the case of finding how the bug was initially created, and helps developers replicate the bug themselves to figure out how to fix it.

                                          Any updates so far?

I'm surprised how many people here dabble in game design. I must admit, I also work on this kind of thing. Except I do things far different from you guys.

I use a game called RPG Maker, made for the Playstation by Agetec. Instead of actually using code to input commands, you use menu options. So, it's game making for dummies, which is fine with me since I couldn't ever understand coding.
I met a man once with a dirty hardhat, a pickaxe and a bucket full of coal. He also had overalls and a plaid shirt, a scruffy beard and thick steel toe boots.

But those are just miner details.

I've made a few games with that, it's fun when you can get it to work correctly. Only problem I've had using that is that it limits the amount of enemies you can have in the game to around 255, so I end up running out of slots for enemies by the time I head towards the end of the game and end up having to rehash old enemies.
