Fear of bad things brings them to you. Desire for good things drives them away.

"But how can I stop wanting, to get the thing I want?" - There's a Zen koan about that. How to grasp something with your hands always open? Can you grasp the air with them closed?

Greed and fear the two basic motivators for life. A very simple philosophy and America seems to have little else to rely on.

You forgot sex. Probably because you're even older than me. But you're right, of course.
Sex, greed for more of it, fear that you won't get any.
Ah, the trials of being human. Rabbits have pretty much got it sorted out, except that most things eat rabbits.
An old Indian lady once observed: "Grizzly not eat white man. White man too salty."
Life is a difficult thing, for sure.

"Squawk!" said the crow, and then made space.

Have not totally forgotten sex but it is not the all encompassing, mind control system it used to be....

I haven't eaten any additional salt since I was 33, so the grizzly might find me a bit tough but not too salty!

There is no end to desires and, if you let it, no end to fears either.
